For research I looked at greeting cards that have a similar tone to the ones I am designing. The next stage of research I did was look at formats and finishes. From this research I decided to use a scratchable rubber surface to conceal one half of the message.

I sourced cards that have a similar tone. Jokingly abusive messages are used on these cards in the same way they are used on the ones I have designed.

I want to use scratch card technology as a way of adding an interactive quality to the cards.

The audience I am aiming the cards at are 18 - 24 year old males. An audience that is not typically associated with purchasing greetings cards. The content on the cards uses deprecating humour. The cards will be shared between friends, not strangers. The content dictates this.

The content for the cards isn’t for everybody. It is aimed to be handed between best friends and family. The content is to be taken in a joking and light hearted manner.

The cards will be single sided, one colour A7 cards. This will be a lower cost print which will allow for a much lower retail cost. This will make the cards more appealing to the target audience.

The cards will work as shown above. The opaque rubber will be scratched away to reveal half of the birthday message.
