Application Procedure & Basic Requirements

The UK embassy in Bangkok is in partnership with VFS (Thailand) also known as the UK Application Centre. You should lodge your UK Visa application at the VFS office, which in turn forwards your application to the UK embassy. Sometimes, the embassy officer may wish to conduct an interview with you. This is either done by phone or in person once your visa application is received by the embassy. You will be notified once the result of your application is ready for collection. Your passport will be returned to you endorsed with a visa if your application is successful. If your visa application is refused, a letter explaining the reasons of the refusal is given to you along with your passport. The period of 'leave to enter' will run from that date. Most immigration officers and Embassy staff are friendly and helpful. Keep your interaction with them friendly, respectful and to the point.

Entry clearance is necessary for Thai nationals for travel to the UK.

The VFS UK visa application center in Bangkok accepts applications for all visa categories and is officially authorized by the UK Border Agency.

Note that your UK Visit Visa may be issued to start before the date of your intended travel. When you enter the UK a separate stamp is placed in your passport showing the date of arrival. The period of 'leave to enter' will run from that date. Most immigration officers and Embassy staff are friendly and helpful.

UK Visit Visa, or UK Visitor Visa is granted to those whose purpose of travel is to just visit the United Kingdom for a maximum period of six months. The standard Visit Visa is commonly referred to as the tourist or holiday visa. In most cases they are issued for multiple entries which allows the holder to travel into and out of the UK on multiple occasions during that period.

Applicants for a UK Visitor Visa from Thailand must show that he/she:

v is genuinely seeking entry for not more than six months as a visitor

v intends to leave at the end of his visit

v does not intend to take employment paid or unpaid, or to produce goods or provide services

v does not sell goods or services direct to the public during the visit

v does not intend to study at a publicly funded school

v can be maintained and accommodated without recourse to public funds

v is able to show proof that he/she is able to meet the costs of their onward journey

Requirements of the UK Visitor Visa

v Proof of sufficient funds

v Proof of accommodation

v Evidence of strong ties to Thailand or compelling reasons that they will come back

v Evidence of stable employment

v Flight ticket reservation

In the case of sponsorship,

v Letter of invitation (by a UK citizen or permanent resident)

v Letter of sponsorship (by a UK citizen or permanent resident)

v Evidence of stable employment by sponsor
