The US-KOREA Conference on Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship (UKC) 2018 will be held
August 1-4, 2018 in St. John’s University Conference Center in Queens, New York City, New York,
United States. UKC2018 provides valuable opportunities for cooperation between the US and Korea.
The program includes symposiums, forums and workshops to cover broad areas of science and
technology, including but not limited to basic science, applied science, engineering, technology,
entrepreneurship and science policy. The three pillars of the UKC 2018 program are:
• Digital Technologies/AI
• Biomedicine
• Robotics/Autonomous Systems
We are embracing APSs in the Symposiums.
The TG leaders will lead the symposium and
they will collaborate with related APSs. All
Symposiums will embrace Industry
Professionals as well as teaching focused
submission from teaching universities. Young
Generation Integration to the main UKC
program will include separate forums for
young professionals and the young generation.
An initiative will seek sponsorship from the US
companies with effort lead by industry
professionals. Lastly, a 3-day Public Program
invites the Korean communities and the
general public into UKC2018.

Dr. Sangbae Kim
Director of Biomimetic Robotics Lab in MIT
Prof. Sangbae Kim, is also an Associate Professor of Mechanical
Engineering at MIT. His research focuses on the bio-inspired robot
design by extracting principles from animals. Kim's achievements on
bio-inspired robot development include the world's first directional
adhesive inspired from gecko lizards, and a climbing robot,
Stickybot, that utilizes the directional adhesives to climb smooth surfaces featured in TIME's best inventions in
2006. Recent achievement includes the development of the MIT Cheetah capable of stable outdoor running
up to 13mph and autonomous jumping over obstacles at an efficiency of animals. This achievement was
covered by more than 300 media articles.

The UKC 2018 will provide an opportunity for sponsors to organize the sponsor-named forums,
which can serve as platforms for leaders to exchange ideas on future cooperation and promote
collaborations with the sponsor institutions.
In addition to the successful forums in past years (see the examples below), we are in the process of
identifying sponsors that can host forums in areas of emerging topics. These topics include, but are
not limited to, focus areas identified by the Ministry of Science ICT and Future Planning. We can help
the sponsors to identify potential chairs and speakers of the forum. Organizers, chair/co-chairs and
speakers can be Korean-American and non-ethnic Korean US researchers and experts from
government, academia and industry. To meet the sponsor’s needs, the UKC 2018 organizing
committee will help in customizing a forum structure and identifying a forum chair that can work
closely with the sponsor.
The proposal deadline is Wednesday, February 28, 2018. However, we would kindly like to remind
the sponsors that sooner is better for the organizing committee, so we can start identifying and
inviting leaders in the topic areas as early as possible. For any question, please contact Conference
Chair Dr. K. Stephen Suh ([email protected]) or Program Chair Dr. Tom Oh
