The urban land is performing well econom-ically, but its low density leads to extensive needs for transport and land. It remains a challenge to implement sustainable agen-das in this fragmented urbanized territory of uncoordinated stakeholders. Integrated solutions, which find a balance between density, resources and equity still have to be envisioned.

How can functions be layered on the same piece of land? How can urban and rural be-come intrinsic instead of opposing? How can concepts of ownership, management and financing be refined?

CONNECTED+BALANCED

Infrastructure must inform densification and drive collaborative developments. Dig-itization and a new appetite for slow traffic have caused additional mobility patterns and become serious driving forces. Large-scale “green” infrastructures including energy, mobility, water and waste management can contribute to overcome boundaries.

How can co-operational finance models fa-cilitate this? How can green infrastructure re-shape in the urban land? How can stakehold-ers buy into the idea of shaping integrated infrastructures as a civil project?

COORDINATED +EXPERIMENTAL

Increasingly cities use experimentation as a strategy to find innovative practical solu-tions. An exchange of experience between cosmopolitan and urban land conditions can stimulate new practices and back tran-sition processes. Creative approaches to multi-level policies in larger catchment are-as of urbanized territories are needed.

How can formal planning bodies incentiv-ize incremental approaches and learn from bold experiments? How can universities become stimulating, consulting and coordi-nating institutions?
