DESCRIPTION
Here you can see the visuals for the design of a website for creative ideas generation. The site provides students with creative tools and techniques to help them get started with their various projects.
Citation preview
A Creative Ideas Generation Website to aid students and graduates studying a creative discipline, in generating fresh ideas for the various projects that they are working on.The aim of this PDF is to provide an effective insight into what the website would be like when live and to demonstrate how nearly all of the navigation would work. Clearly when the site was live there would be much more available interaction when the user was creating their own dashboard. I have instead just given some possible previews of how the users dashboard could potentially look. I have created a selection of technique pages to demonstrate what the design would look like, using the content that I gathered from my blog. Clearly when the site was live there would be many more techniques available.
Unblock
I have created the dimensions of the site through researching what sizes would be the most effective for working on the majority of different sized screens. I chose to create the length of the website to be a fold and a bit, so everything above this line would be what you saw straight away on screen when visiting the site, then you would scroll down just a little to see the bottom navigation bar. Please move down to the next page and then start navigating as if a real website.

When we get a brief we all go off for an hour and scribble our intial thoughts before collectively talking them through.-NB Studio
As well as doodling on your own, a quick fun task could be a group doodle. Explain to the group the basis of your project and then let everyone doodle how they interpret it. Or start a doodle and pass it around for everyone to add to.

‘When I use drawing to express an idea, I get different results than if I try to express it with words and I usually get to them more quickly. I have to have a whiteboard or sketch pad nearby whenever I am discussing ideas with colleagues.’-Tim Brown, CEO & President of IDEO
Sketching can help you to quickly visualise ideas, instead of having to try and describe something visual using words. Create many quick and rough sketches as this will provide you with a great starting point. Then pick ones to start playing with.

100 Ideas
I find this method really good for making sure I don’t go ahead with the obvious idea, and to really challenge my thinking towards the most innovative solution. I get an A3 or A2 sheet and divide into 100 cells, then sketch one different solution to the brief or challenge in each box. I try and keep myself going until I reach 100 ideas. By that time I would have probably had a clearer idea of which ideas are stronger and worth exploring in more depth.-Joanna Choukeir, Communication Designer
Use small thumbnail sketches to create quick and rough ideas. This lateral thinking technique helps you to continue generating ideas even after a promising one has been produced.

Here’s a sketch of an idea generation exercise that I picked up whilst at college. It is about breaking the predictable patterns of thinking and generating unexpected solutions. For most designers, the design process is reductive. Why? Because we want to be in control of our ideas, we want to ‘know’ what we are doing.-Evelin Kasikov, Graphic Designer

To not use computer to create pattern includes irregularity, no matter how much you tried to make perfectly routine.-Yoh Nagao, Artist
I find when I end up just pushing pixels across the computer screen and I’m stuck, the best thing for me to do is close my laptop, get a pencil and sketchpad, and just DRAW my concepts. This keeps me from getting bogged down in the tiny details of type size and colour.-Stefanie Posavec, Communication Designer
