known (famous) to them.

is for you too!

Scripture speaks of a secret place where we can simply go, be alone, be pro-

tected, pray, and hear from Yahuahshua. Knowing there is such a place is a

matter of faith. Going back time and again, that's a matter of building a rela-

Page 4: Under the law

tionship. You need not have an advanced degree in any subject, need not

have memorized Scripture from beginning to end, but instead be aware the

YaHuWaH of Y’ISCHRa’EL has a place for each Jew and Gentile who will

open their minds and hearts to Him.

Mt 6:5-8

When you pray, you shall not be as the role-fakers, for they love to stand and

pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be

seen by men. Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward. But

you, when you pray, enter into your inner chamber, and having shut your

door, pray to your Father Who is in secret, and your Father Who sees in se-

cret shall reward you openly. In praying, don’t use vain repetitions, as the

Gentiles do; for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Therefore don’t be like them, don't you see that your Father knows what

things you need before you ask Him.

The truth in reality is visited in this secret place AND must be shared by those

who will live or else ... they will perish ... in darkness.

It is written

Lu 11:33

“No one, when he has lit a Lamp, puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on

a stand, that those who come in may see the Light.

Teh. 119:105

Your Word is a Lamp to my feet, and a Light (aur) for my path.

The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your

whole body is also full of Light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of

darkness. Therefore see whether the light that is in you isn’t darkness. If

Page 5: Under the law

therefore your whole body is full of Light, having no part dark, it shall be

wholly full of Light, as when the Lamp with its bright shining gives you Light.”

NOW BROTHERS and SISTERS

With this in mind, heart soul and strength let us study together in

the Ruwach

How many times have you heard it said,

“We are no longer under the law but under Favour (grace)?”

this phrase is quoted from Paul’s letter to a Nätzräya congregation

Romans 6:14

For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under Torah, but under favour

many misinterpret what this phrase means:

"What then? shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace?"

Such a question could not arise on the statement of the preceding verse, if its meaning were understood to be that grace will enable us to avoid sin; it

rather supposes the meaning that grace condones sin.

Romans 6:16

Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves servants for obedience, you are servants of the one whom you obey, whether of sin to

death, or of obedience to righteousness?

Page 6: Under the law

Right v Wrong

CHOOSE 1 leads to life Eternal

1 leads to Death (Eternal)

(did you ever exist)

If you can define “SIN “ properly you know its wrong not to obey YaHuWaH commandments

Rom 6:12-13

Therefore don’t let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.neither present your members to sin as instruments of

unrighteousness, but present yourselves to YaHuWaH, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to

YaHuWaH.

Can this be truth in light of the

“Before YaHuWSHuWaH, mankind was under bondage to the Mosaic Law given by YaHuWaH at Mt. Sinai. When YaHuWSHuWaH came, He did away with the Mosaic Law, which was impossible for man to obey, and

gave us new commandments to follow.”

How could this interpretation be correct?

Could the YaHuWaH of Abraham, Yitzchak, and Ya’aqob give a law that was not perfect and then punish His people for not following it

perfectly? Today, we would call this child abuse!

WAKE UP HEAR THE SHOFAR

Page 7: Under the law

As with the phrase “under the law,” there is a lack of understanding today on how to apply YaHuWaH’s Law (Torah). Because of this lack of

understanding, many have become

“workers of iniquity”

(are you one)

Matt. 7:21-23

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘My Master, My Master,’ shall enter into the Reign of YaHuWaH; but he who does the will of My Father Who is in the

shamayim. Many shall tell Me in that Day, ‘My Master, My Master, didn’t we prophesy in Your Name, in Your Name cast out demons, and in Your

Name do many mighty works?’ Then I shall tell them, ‘Never did I acknowledge you:Depart from Me, all you who workers of Lawlessness

[Torah-less-ness]!

Who is the “I” talking, to be lawless is to ignore of be in violation of his torah

Acts 17:30

The times of ignorance therefore YaHuWaH overlooked. But now He commands that all people everywhere should repent, He has appointed a Day in which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man Whom He has ordained; of which He has given assurance to all men, in that He has raised

Him from the dead.”

If you wish to stay ignorant stop here, but the warning is clear, you will have no excuse in the Day of Judgement…. Which is nearer than most think

"When one considers the context, especially, it becomes clear He is talking about His name, the Word of YaHuWaH. Therefore here “hearing My

Words and doing them” means heeding His names, YaHuWSHuWaH, and doing them means obeying Him. These points are lost on those

who do not heed His Word and do not obey Him.] ... each and every teaching of YaHuWSHuWaH is based on Torah!

Page 8: Under the law

To be anti-Torah, is to be anti-Mashiyach; therefore every "authority" will be judged by whether they uphold Torah or not.

According to YaHuWSHuWaH, Torah is "the will of My Father".

Matt. 7:21;

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘My Master, My Master,’ shall enter into the Reign of YaHuWaH; but he who does the will of My Father Who is in the

shamayim

This is the fundamental message the Talmidim preached, pointing (torah) the way to YaHuWSHuWaH, YaHuWaH and his Kingdom

Matt 12:50

For whosoever shall do the will of My Father (the Torah), the Mighty One Who is in the shamayim, they are my brothers, my sisters, and my mother."

They are the ones who will enter My Father's kingdom. [Luke 8: 21]

“workers against the Law.”

YaHuWSHuWaH

said that those who fall in this category would not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

So what is meant with

“under the law”

So what is meant by

Law

Translated from the Greek word nomos; which was translated from the

Hebrew word Torah that literally means:

Guidelines, instructions, and teachings in righteousness

Page 9: Under the law

Grace

Translated from the Greek word charitoo meaning in due with special honor, make accepted, be highly favored; translated from the Hebrew

word

chesed meaning unmerited favor.

It does not conflict with YaHuWaH’s Law/Torah.

Scriptures –

Translated from the Greek word graphe meaning

a document,

i.e. Sacred Writ or its contents or a statement term used pn ScriptureB; Hebraic: Tenach (Torah and the Prophets), which did not include Renewed Covenant (The “New Testament” did not exist during

the Apostolic era.

Under Law

Translated from the Greek words upo nomon; Hebraically understood:

“…in subjection to the system that results from perverting the Torah into legalism.”

Law of Sin

Sin is defined in

1 John 3:4

Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness [breaks Torah]. In fact, sin is lawlessness [being without Torah]

Keep in mind that the word “law” in the Renewed Covenant does not always mean TORAH.

Legalism

Attempting to earn one’s “Salvation by Works” rather than accepting the atoning sacrifice of YaHuWSHuWaH for salvation.

Page 10: Under the law

Idiom

An expression in the usage of a language that is peculiar to itself either in grammatical construction or in having a meaning which cannot

be derived as a whole from the conjoined meanings of its elements (don’t throw the baby out with the bath water,”)

Was Paul was anti-Law (Torah)or did he respect the law

Let’s take a look at Paul’s own testimony and his beliefs.

Paul was Pharisee

Φαρισαιος

Pharisaios

far-is-ah'-yos

Of Hebrew origin (compare [H6567]); a separatist, that is, exclusively religious; a Pharisaean, that is, Jewish sectary: - Pharisee.

The "Pharisees" and Sadducees appear as distinct parties in the latter half of the 2nd cent. B.C., though they represent tendencies traceable much

earlier in Jewish history, tendencies which became pronounced after the return from Babylon (537), B.C.). The immediate progenitors of the two parties were, respectively, the Hasidaeans and the Hellenizers; the latter, the antecedents of the Sadducees, aimed at removing Judaism from its narrowness and sharing in the advantages of Greek life and culture. The Hasidaeans, a transcription of the Hebrew chasidim, i.e., "pious ones,"

were a society of men zealous for religion, who acted under the guidance

of the scribes, in opposition to the godless Hellenizing party; they scrupled to oppose the legitimate high priest even when he was on the Greek side.

Thus the Hellenizers were a political sect, while the Hasidaeans, whose fundamental principle was complete separation from non- Jewish elements,

were the strictly legal party among the Jews, and were ultimately the more popular and influential party. In their zeal for the Law they almost

deified it and their attitude became merely external, formal, and mechanical. They laid stress, not upon the righteousness of an action, but

upon its formal correctness. Consequently their opposition to YaHuWSHuWaH was inevitable; His manner of life and teaching was

essentially a condemnation of theirs; hence His denunciation of them, e.g., Mat_6:2, Mat_6:5, Mat_6:16; Mat_15:7 and chapter 23.

While the Jews continued to be divided into these two parties, the spread of the testimony of the gospel must have produced what in the public eye seemed to be a new sect, and in the extensive development which took

place at Antioch, Act_11:19-26, the name Nätzräyin" seems to have

Page 11: Under the law

become a popular term applied to the Talmidim as a sect, the primary cause, however, being their witness to YaHuWSHuWaH The opposition of both "Pharisees" and Sadducees (still mutually antagonistic, Act_23:6-10)

against the new "sect" continued unabated during apostolic times.

Taught by the School of Hillel

Acts 22:3

“I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to

the perfect manner of the Law of the fathers, and was zealous toward YaHuWaH, as ye all are this day.”

GAMALIEL OF JABNE, or the younger, was born about A.D. 50. He was a man of great erudition; was the teacher of Aquila, author of a Greek translation of the O.T., and of

Onkelos, the Chaldee translator of the Pentateuch. Like his father, he labored earnestly to introduce the Platonian philosophy into Jewish theology. On the

death of Jochanan ben Zachai, he was elected to the presidency of the rabbinical college at Jamnia. Shortly after his accession he reconstituted the

Sanhedrim, which, though divested at this time of all secular authority, nevertheless exerted a great influence on the moral life of the Jews of their

time. By the vigorous measures which Gamaliel adopted, he made many enemies, and was even for a time deposed from the presidency, and instead

of being superseded by his lineal descendant, as had been customary, R. Eleazar b. Azzariah, was elected, and a re-examination of all the opinions which Gamaliel affirmed to belong to the Hillel school was ordered by the

Sanhedrim. About twenty years before YaHuWSCHuA a division arose among the Jewish rabbis, and the result was the founding of a separate rabbinical college, called "School of Shamai." When the Sanhedrim entered upon a re-examination of Gamaliel's doctrines, they "decided in favor of the opinions

which were in harmony with the most ancient traditions, irrespective of schools." "This collection of decisions is called Edajoth עדיותcollection of

witness) or Bechirah (בחירה, selection). Among the decisions reconsidered was the opinion about the book of Ecclesiastes and the Song of Songs, which constituted one of the differences between the school of Shammai and Hillel."

The former excluded and the latter included them in the canon, and "after a minute investigation of the evidence, it was found that, according to the most

ancient traditions, these books were regarded as inspired, and hence the

Page 12: Under the law

former decision of the school of Hillel was confirmed, viz, that the said books should be retained in the canon" (Jadjim, 3:5; Edajoth, 5:3). Gamaliel was, however, reinstated in his position, but with defined and restricted power;

and the regard in which he was held at the time of his death, about A.D. 116, is evinced by Onkelos, "who showed him royal honors at his funeral, and

burned costly garments and furniture to the amount of seventy Tyrian minae, i.e., about twenty-one pounds sterling. Such a funeral pile was generally raised only to kings." — Kitto, Cyclopaedia of Biblical Literature, 2:62;

Etheridge, Introduction to Hebrew Literature, page 59; Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Gen, 19:382. (J.H.W.)

Acts 23:6

But when Sha'ul perceived that the one part were Tsadowq and the other

Phrushiym, he cried out in the council, “Men and brothers, I am a Phrushiym, a son of Phrushiym. Concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am

being judged!”

… Philippians 3:5-6.

circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Yasra'el, of the tribe of Binyamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; concerning the Law, a Pharisee;

concerning zeal, persecuting the assembly; concerning the righteousness which is in the Torah, found blameless.

Paul’s encounter with YaHuWSHuWaH

Sent to a man who upheld the Law/Torah

Acts 22:12-15.

One ChananYahuw, a devout man according to the Torah, well reported of by all the Yahuwdim who lived in Dammeseq, came to me, and

standing by me said to me, ‘Brother Sha'ul, receive your sight!’ In that very hour I looked up at him. He said, ‘The Mighty Ones of our fathers has

appointed you to know His will, and to see the Righteous One, and to heed the voice from His mouth. For you will be a witness for Him to all men

of what you have seen and heard

Paul asked by James to prove that he continued to walk according to the Law

Acts 21:18-24,

Page 13: Under the law

The day following, Sha'ul went in with us to Ya'aqob; and all the elders were present. When he had greeted them, he reported one by one the

things which YaHuWaH had worked among the nations through his ministry. They, when they heard it, praised YaHuWaH. But they said to him,

“You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Yahuwdims of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the Torah. And they have been informed about you, that you teach all the Yahuwdim who are among the nations to forsake Moshah, telling

them not to circumcise their children neither to walk after the customs of the Law. What then? The assembly must certainly meet, for they will hear

that you have come. Therefore do what we tell you. We have four men who have taken a vow to be purified. Take them, and purify yourself with them, and pay their expenses for them, that they may shave their heads.

Then all will know that there is no truth in the things that they have been informed about you,

but that you yourself also walk keeping the Torah/law

Paul taught that the Law and the Prophets (Scriptures) were Sacred, Ruwach, and good

1 Tim. 3:14-17

But you must remain trustful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. You have been taught the Set-apart Scriptures from childhood, and

they have given you the wisdom to receive the deliverance that comes by trusting in haMashiyach YaHuWSHuWaH. All Scripture is Breathed by

YaHuWaH and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of Aluahiym might be

fitted, equipped for every good work.

All pieces of equipment come with an instruction book

Where’s yours, mine’s the Torah, it teaches me HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS

Romans 2:13

“For not the hearers of the Law are just before YaHuWaH, but the doers of the Law shall be justified.”

Page 14: Under the law

Romans 2:14

“For when the Gentiles, which have not the Law, do by nature the things contained in the Law, these, having not the Law, are a Law

unto themselves:”

Romans 2:15

“Which shew the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the

mean while accusing or else excusing one another;

I bear witness of Yahuahshua by my conscience I acknowledge HIS RIGHTEOUNESS IS THE TRUTH

Romans 2:18

“And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the Law;”

Romans 3:20

“Therefore by the deeds of the Law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the Law is the knowledge of

sin.”

How would I know sin lest through instruction (Torah)

Romans 3:31

“Do we then make void the Law through faith? YaHuWaH forbid: yea, we establish the Law.”

WE ESTABLISH THE LAW

HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS

Romans 7:12

“Wherefore the Law is Sacred, and the commandment sacred, and

just, and good.”

Romans 7:14

“For we know that the Law is spiritual (Ruwach): but I am carnal, sold under sin.”

Romans 7:22.

“For I delight in the Law of YaHuWaH after the inward (spiritual)

man:”

Galatians 3:21

“Is the Law then against the promises of YaHuWaH? YaHuWaH forbid: for if there had been a Law given which could

have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the Law.”

1 Tim. 1:7-8

“Desiring to be teachers of the Law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. But we know that the Law is

good, if a man use it lawfully;”

WHICH LAW WERE MEN PLACING THEMSELVES UNDER?

After reading Paul’s own words about the Law/Torah, Paul cannot be saying in

Romans 6:14

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under law, but under grace.

That there is something wrong with the Law/Torah. Clearly, Paul does not consider the Law/Torah a curse, or done away with, or that one should not

be obedient to YaHuWaH’s Law/Commandments. Paul states in

Romans 3:31,

Do we then nullify the Torah through belief? May it never be! No, we uphold the Torah.

the Law/Torah does not conflict with faith nor does it conflict with

Page 16: Under the law

grace. Otherwise, Paul would be inconsistent in his deeds and words - a very confused man!

This is important to understand because we are talking about “YaHuWaH’s Law/Torah,” not man’s law.

Could it be that Paul, when using the phrase “under law,” is talking about man being legalistic about obeying YaHuWaH’s Law/Torah? They ignore the

Father’s grace, “unmerited favor,” which is part of the equation.

Many of us have experienced religious legalism in some form or fashion (e.g., if you don’t speak in tongues you are not spirit filled, if you do not wear

certain clothes your not presenting holiness). Paul is addressing this in his letters to the Nätzräyin congregations by using the phrase or idiom “under

law” to mean

UNDER LEGALISM.

Read Acts 15 where Paul was confronted with: “you must first be circumcised

and then you will be saved.”

Acts 15:1-3

Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of the weak, and not to please ourselves.Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is

good, to be building him up. even haMashiyach didn’t please himself. But, as

it is written:

Teh 69: 6-9

“[May the ones hoping on You not be ashamed by Me, My Master YaHuWaH Tsba’owth, may the ones seeking You not be insulted because of Me, Mighty

Ones of Ysra'al. Because for Your sake, I endure scorn, wounds cover My face: I am an alien to My brothers and a stranger to the sons of My mother:

For the zeal of Your house consumes Me, and the insults of ones insulting You, they fall on Me.”

Acts 15:4-9

For everything written of old was written for our instruction (Torah), that through patience and through encouragement of the Scriptures we might

have hope. Now may the Aluah of patience and of encouragement grant you to be of the same mind one with another according to haMashiyach

Page 17: Under the law

YaHuWSHuWaH, that with one accord you may with one mouth esteem YaHuWaH, and Father of our Master YaHuWSHuWaH haMashiyach. Therefore accept one another, even as haMashiyach also accepted you, to the esteem of YaHuWaH. Now I say that haMashiyach has been made a servant of the circumcision for the Truth of YaHuWaH, that He might confirm the promises given to the fathers, and that the gentiles might esteem YaHuWaH for His

mercy. As it is written:

Teh18: 46-49

“[YaHuWaH lives! And my Rock is being praised! Exalted be the Aluahiym of my deliverance, eve the Mighty One Who avenges me, and He subdues

peoples under me. One delivering me from my enemies, You also exalted me above my foes, from a violent man You rescued me! For this I will openly acknowledge You among the heathen masses, YaHuWaH, and I will sing

praise to Your name!”

Acts15:10

“Rejoice, the heathen masses are His people and let all the mighty ones bow down in homage to Him! Because He shall avenge the blood of His bondmen

and He will take vengeance upon His opponents, and His people will atone His land.”

Deuteronomy 32:43

Rejoice, the nations are His people and let all the mighty ones bow down in homage to Him! For He will avenge the blood of His servants. He will render vengeance to His adversaries,And will make expiation for His Land and His

people.

[“And when He again brings the Firstborn into the world, He says, ‘Let all the messengers of Aluahiym Worship Him.’”]

Acts 15:11

Instead, through the favour of our Master YaHuWSHuWaH the Mashiyach, we are persuaded that we are saved, in the same manner as they also.”

Teh 117: 1

Praise YaHuWaH, all you nations !Extol Him, all you peoples!

(HalleluYah) (at) YaHuWaH all nations - Ibriy)

Page 18: Under the law

Acts 15:12

All the multitude kept silence, and they listened to Barnabah and Sha'ul reporting what signs and wonders YaHuWaH had done among the nations

through them.

YashaYahuw 11: 10

“And He shall be in that Day, a Root of Yisháy, that is standing for the Signal of the peoples, to Him shall the heathen masses rally, and His rest-haven shall be Splendor! ” - even He Who stands up to rule heathen masses: on

Him heathen masses shall hope.

Acts15:13-21

Now may the Aluah of hope fill you with all joy and peace by trusting Him, that you may abound in His hope, in the Power of the Ruwach haQadosh. I myself am also persuaded about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish others.

But I write the more boldly to you in part, as reminding you, because of the favour that was given to me by YaHuWaH, that I should be a servant of

haMashiyach YaHuWSHuWaH to the gentiles, serving as a hekal-worker the Besorah of YaHuWaH, that the offering up of the gentiles might be made

acceptable, purified by Ruwach haQadosh. I have therefore my boasting in haMashiyach YaHuWSHuWaH in things pertaining to YaHuWaH. For I will not dare to speak of any things except those which haMashiyach worked through

me, for the obedience of the gentiles, by word and deed. in the power of signs and wonders, in the Power of YaHuWaH’s Ruwach haQadosh; so that from Yahrushalom, and around as far as to Illyricum, I have fully preached

the Besorah of haMashiyach; yes, making it my aim to proclaim the Besorah, not where haMashiyach was already named, that I might not build on

another’s foundation. But, as it is written:“…because they shall see what was not told accurately to them, and what they did not listen to, they shall

consider diligently:”

YashaYahuw 52: 15

so shall He sprinkle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths at Him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had

Page 19: Under the law

not heard shall they understand.

Yet YaHuWSHuWaH made it possible for them to see, understand and return, and YaHuWaH’s Ruwach was already drawing them back to the synagogues, which is where Sha'ul went to declare the message in each city. But “kings” are also those who seek out what YaHuWaH has hidden (Prov. 25:2). And

what YaHuWSHuWaH would accomplish is all right here for those who will seek it out without prejudice.]

Acts15:22-29

Therefore also I was hindered these many times from coming to you, but now, no longer having any place in these regions, and having these many

years a longing to come to you, whenever I journey to Spain, I will come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey, and to be helped on my way there

by you, if first I may enjoy your company for a while. But now, I say, I am going to Urishlim, serving the kodesh ones. For it has been the good pleasure of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the kodesh ones who are at Urishlim. Yes, it has been their good pleasure, and they are their debtors. For if the gentiles have been made partakers of

their spiritual things, they owe it to them also to serve them in fleshly things. When therefore I have accomplished this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will go on by way of you to Spain.I know that, when I come to you, I will

come in the fullness of the blessing of the Besorah of haMashiyach.

Acts15:30-33

Now I beg you, brothers, by our Master YaHuWSHuWaH haMashiyach, and by the love of the Ruwach, that you strive together with me in your prayers

to YaHuWaH for me, that I may be delivered from those who are disobedient in Yahuwdah, and that my service which I have for Urishlim may be

acceptable to the Set-apart ones; that I may come to you in joy through the

will of YaHuWaH, and together with you, find rest. Now the Aluah of peace be with you all.

Amein.

Nowhere in Scripture is circumcision or any other commandment given as a prerequisite for salvation. However, in Acts 15, man has decided that the

flesh must be changed before the heart can be changed!

“Although its relationship to the book of Acts is a topic of much discussion, a good case can be made for Galatians being written before the Jerusalem council of Acts 15. In that case, the council decision helps interpret the

Page 20: Under the law

message of Galatians.” (A Jewish View of Galatians, p. 10)

“UNDER THE LAW”

The phrase “Under the law” appears in 10 verses in the Brit Chadasha (Renewed Covenant) and all are attributed to Paul’s writings. Please keep in mind that the article “the” is not present in the Greek language. The phrase

should read “under law.”

Romans 3:19

Now we know that whatever things the Torah says, it speaks to those who are under law that every mouth may be closed, and all the

world may be brought under the judgment of YaHuWaH

Romans 6:14

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under law, but under grace.

Romans 6:15

What then? shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? YaHuWaH forbid.

1 Cor. 9:20

And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under law, as under the law, that I might gain them

that are under law;

1 Cor. 9:21

To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to YaHuWaH, but under law to YaHuWSHuWaH,) that I might gain

them that are without law.

Gal. 3:23

But before faith came, we were kept under law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

Gal. 4:4

But when the fullness of the time was come, YaHuWaH sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under law,

Gal. 4:5

To redeem them that were under law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Page 21: Under the law

Gal. 4:21

Tell me, ye that desire to be under law, do ye not hear the law?

Gal. 5:18

But if ye be led of the Ruwach, ye are not under law.

With the influx of new believers from the nations coming to faith in YaHuWSHuWaH, Paul was confronted with many problems. However, there

was one major problem

Salvation Legalism.

Some Jewish believers were teaching new converts that “gentiles must first become Jews, obeying all of the Law/Torah, before they can be saved”

(Acts 15).

This is called “Judaizing” and what Paul was addressing in the book of Galatians:

Gal. 1:1

, “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of HaMashiyach unto another gospel:”

The “another gospel” here is defined in:

Acts 15:2,

“And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye

cannot be saved.”

In Colossians:

Col. 2:8,

“Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and

not after HaMashiyach.”

Salvation legalism is not only confined to certain ones in first century Judaism. Even today, there are those who claim to be “believers in

YaHuWSHuWaH” and understand “grace” that will select certain elements of the Law and make its observance directly linked to personal salvation

WERE THE CHILDREN OF Y’SCHRAEL EVER “UNDER THE LAW?”

Page 22: Under the law

Many easily overlook an important point with respect to Torah verses Salvation. The children of Y’SCHRAEL entered into a personal relationship

with the YaHuWaH of Y’SCHRAEL before they were given YaHuWaH’s Torah (guidelines and instructions for holy living). Not the other way around!

Exodus 20:2 states,

“I am the Lord your YaHuWaH who brought you out of Egypt, who brought you out of slavery.”

Y’SCHRAEL first accepted their “salvation” and then received the Sacred One’s perfect Torah of liberty after saying “I DO” at Mt. Sinai.

“The Torah was not given in answer to the question

‘What must I do to enter into a relationship with YaHuWaH (or receive

salvation)?’

It was given in answer to the question,

‘Now that I have this wonderful relationship with YaHuWaH, how can I express my gratitude and demonstrate my love?

’ WILL THE TORAH EVER BE DONE AWAY WITH?

Many teach that the Law/Torah was done away with through YaHuWSHuWaH’s death. This is a false teaching. We read in the book of

Hebrews, which is a direct quote from

YirmeYahuw 31:31-32:

Behold, the Days come, says YaHuWaH, that I shall cut a new (renewed)

covenant with the House of Ysra'al, and with the House of Yahuwdah: not like the covenant that I cut with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Mitsrayim; which My covenant they

broke/nullified [changed], although I was a Husband to them, says YaHuWaH.

Not like: in that “they violated it” (broke it in two, split or cracked it—as

Moshah did with the physical tablets on which YaHuWaH had written it, in perfect symbolism of what they had done). The Aramaic interprets “violated” as “changed”—the very thing the Northern Kingdom, after being exiled and even after being introduced to YaHuWSHuWaH, tried to claim YaHuWaH had

done! In all other ways, a renewed covenant must be as much like the original as possible, with only minor adjustments to reflect a change that may have taken place in the situation of one party or the other since the first was

made. Though I fulfilled…: LXX, and I disregarded them.

Page 23: Under the law

YirmeYahuw 31:33

But this is the covenant that I shall cut with the House of Ysra'al after those days, says YaHuWaH: I shall put My instructions in their inward parts, and in their heart shall I write it; and I shall be their Aluahiym, and they shall be My

people:

Or, I will put My Torah right in their midst [where they draw near]. This does not mean we will obey like robots; something comes to be written on our hearts by constant meditation on it and habitual rehearsing it in our minds

until it becomes second nature. “Write” can mean “engrave with a chisel”—a painful process! But what is on our hearts is not easily forgotten (compare

Teh. 119:11); it is certainly not something we can ignore and consider dead and gone! When YaHuWSHuWaH rules with a rod of iron (Teh. 2:9), there will

be no option but to learn His Torah. (Zech. 14:18)

YirmeYahuw 31:34

and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his

brother, saying, Know YaHuWaH; for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says YaHuWaH: for I shall pardon their

crookedness, and their sins shall I remember no more. (I, even I AM HE Who blots out your transgression for My Own sake and remembers your sins no

more.)

and in the Renewed covenant we read

Hebrews 8:8-12,

But finding fault with them YaHuWaH Himself said: "The day will come, says YaHuWaH, when I will make a renewed covenant with the people

of Ysra'al and Yahuwdah. This covenant will not be like the one

I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and led them out of the land of Mitsrayim. They did not remain faithful to My

covenant, so I turned My back on them, says YaHuWaH. But this is the covenant I will make with the people of Ysra'al on That Day, says

YaHuWaH:

I will put My law in their minds so they will understand them,

and I will write them on their hearts so they will obey them.

Page 24: Under the law

(Where do we find the law in written form)

I will be their Aluahiym, and they will be My people.

And they will not need to teach their neighbors, nor will they need to teach

their family, saying, You should know YaHuWaH.' For everyone, from the least to the greatest, will already know Me. And I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more."

The process promised above has not reached its fulfillment. Otherwise, we would not longer sin. We must heed

Paul’s warning,

“do not let any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit.”

The YaHuWaH of Y’SCHRAEL has not changed.

His Law is perfect, eternal. and will never be done away.

King David strongly states:

Teh 19:7-9

YaHuWaH’s Torah is perfect, restoring the being

YaHuWaH's Testimony is sure, making wise the simple.

YaHuWaH’s Precepts are right, rejoicing the heart.

YaHuWaH’s Commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes.

The fear of YaHuWaH is clean, enduring into the Ages.

YaHuWaH’s Ordinances are true, and righteous altogether.

Ps. 119:44

So I will obey Your Torah/law continually, to the Age and beyond.

I will walk in liberty, for I have sought Your precepts.

Paul also agrees with King David when he tells Timothy in

2 Tim. 3:16-17:

Page 25: Under the law

All Scripture is Breathed by YaHuWaH and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of Aluahiym might be fitted, equipped for every good

work.

Teh 119:165

Those who love Your Torah have great shalom.Nothing causes them to stumble.

Teh. 119:1

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to YaHuWaH's Torah/law.

Communicating across language barriers is difficult.

This was what Paul was doing when he attempted to communicate the Hebraic concept of “salvation legalism” into the Greek language. C.E.B.

Cranfield, in his commentary on the Book of Romans, makes this clear when he states:

“…the Greek language of Paul’s day possessed no word group corresponding to our ‘legalism,’ ‘legalist’ and ‘legalistic.’ This means that he lacked a convenient terminology for expressing a vital distinction, and so was surely seriously hampered in the work of clarifying the believer’s position with regard to the Law. In view of this, we should always, we think, be ready to reckon with the possibility that Pauline statements, which at first sight seem to disparage the Law, were really directed not against the Law itself but against that misunderstanding and misuse of it for which we now have a convenient terminology. In this very difficult terrain Paul was pioneering in

Scottish Journal of Theology (1964), pp. 43-68]

With this understanding, we now believe that it is clear that Paul was not saying in the idiom “Under Law” that we are no longer to follow the

commandments given by the YaHuWaH of Y’SCHRAEL. Paul is saying that salvation is a free gift from the SACRED One of Y’SCHRAEL through

HaMashiyach YaHuWSHuWaH. There is nothing that one can do though their

own works to earn this salvation. However, because of this “unmerited favor” that has been shown to us, we should order our lives in a way that reflect our

Heavenly Father.

Page 26: Under the law

How do we do this?

By applying the Torah to our lives with understanding;

we demonstrate that we believe that our Father knows best.
