Work Performed During Reporting Period and Any Problems Encountered

Remedial Investigation / Feasibility Study (RI/FS) activities conducted during the reporting period includeResponse to Kansas Department of Health and Environment s comments regarding the Phase n Bedrock Assessment (letter dated 3 September2003) was submitted to the U S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on 9 September 2003 Verbal approval of these responses werereceived by Mary Peterson in a phone conversation on 10 September 2003 so installation of the final Phase n bedrock well could proceed

Notification of Potassium Permanganate Pilot Testing being conducted by University of Waterloo The Boeing Company and Haley &Aldrich Inc was provided to the EPA on 5 September 2003Additional characterization of the bedrock was conducted from September 8 through September 18 2003 per the Phase II Bedrock AssessmentWorkplan (Haley & Aldnch Inc 23 June 2003) The field event included the following activities• Installation and development of seven bedrock monitoring wells (MW-22B MW-23B MW 26C MW-30B MW-31B MW-32B and MW

33B) Locations are shown m Figure 1 One planned bedrock well (MW-31C) was not installed because bedrock and the contact to theEudora Shale were encountered much shallower than expected while drilling at MW-31B (Figure 1)

• Slug testing on five of the seven newly installed bedrock wells MW-30B was dry after well completion and MW-26C could not be testeddue to extremely slow recovery

• Collection of groundwater samples for VOC analysis from five of the seven newly installed bedrock wells (MW-30B was dry and MW-26Ccould not be sampled due to slow recovery) and one prrvate unused well (Figure 1) Water quality parameters (pH temperature andconductivity) were measured during sampling and are provided in Table 2

• Collection of surface water and sediment samples from Mill Creek for VOC analysis Four surface water samples (MC001 throughMC004) and three sediment samples (MC001 MC002 and MC004 no sample collected from MC003 because Mill Creek has a concretebed at this location) were collected at locations shown in Figure 1 Water quality parameters were measured during sampling and areprovided in Table 2

• Collection of soil samples from drill cuttings from bedrock well installation Sample results will be used for profiling prior to disposal

Analytical Data Received During Reporting Penod

Analytical data received from the laboratory during the September reporting penod have been summarized as follows (copies of laboratory data areprovided as Attachment A)

Groundwater samples from five newly installed bedrock wells and one private unused well Detections are summarized in Table 3Sediment and surface water samples from Mill Creek No detectable concentrations were found in the Mill Creek sediment or surface watersamples with the exception of acetone (3 3 J [estimated value] micrograms per liter) in surface water at location MC001Soil samples from drill cuttings No detectable concentrations were found in the drill cuttings samples with the exception of trichloroethene(0 026 milligrams per liter) in the composite sample from MW-26C drill cuttings

Developments Anticipated During the Next Reporting Penod Including Schedule of Actions to be Performed, AnticipatedProblems, and Planned Resolutions of Past or Anticipated Problems_______________________________

Haley & Aldrich Inc will conduct a comprehensive round of groundwater sampling per the Phase II Bedrock Assessment Workplan (Haley &Aldnch Inc 23 June 2003)
