Steel

Our steel chains are madefrom high quality steelalloys.

uni-chains steel chains aremade in the following 3standard grades:

Austenitic stainless steel

Ferritic stainless steel

Special hardened steel

Note: Other grades can besupplied upon request.

Steel chains with ground topsurface are available. Please, contact uni-chains.

Material Properties

Austenitic Stainless SteelAustenitic quality containing 18% chrome and 8% nickel.Werkstoff no. 1.4301AISI 30418/8 CrNi steel is non-magnetic in the entire recommended tempera-ture area. The austenitic quality has a very high degree of corrosionresistance in oxidizing surroundings.

In connection with chloride-containing fluids being evaporated the18/8 CrNi steel is not recommended as stress corrosion will occur atlong time’s tensile strain.

Pin material for chains made of this austenitic stainless steel: 18/8 CrNi steel, cold drawn to high hardness strength.

Ferritic Stainless SteelFerritic quality containing 17.5% chrome.Werkstoff no. 1.4016AISI 430The ferritic quality has a high wearability and is economical wheredemands for corrosion resistance are not very strong. The corrosionresistance of the ferritic quality is not as high as for the austeniticquality, but it does not have a tendency to stress corrode in a chlorideenvironment.

Pin material for chains made of this ferritic stainless steel: 18/8 CrNisteel, cold drawn to high hardness and strength.

Special Hardened SteelSpecial hardened steel with 0.45% carbon. The carbon steel has a hardness of 36-42 HRC.The products are through hardened.

Pin material for chains made of this special hardened steel: Hardenedand circular ground carbon steel.

Polypropylene - PPPolypropylene is a thermoplastic material with very good chemical resistance properties. PP is an economical material forapplications with high temperatures.Recommended temperature area: +1 to +104°C (+33 to +219°F).Colour: Grey.

Standard pin material for plastic chains is 18/8 CrNi steel, butmost types can be supplied with plastic pins too.

PlasticStandard Grades

Standard material for ourplastic chains is acetal which is made in 3 diffe-rent grades.

D-AcetalAcetal polymers with self-lubricating components.Colour: Grey and white.

LF-AcetalAcetal polymers withimproved self-lubricatingcomponents.Colour: Brown.

SLF-AcetalAcetal polymers with self-lubricating additives to ob-tain the lowest possible fric-tion resistance.Colour: Dark grey.

uni-chains also produces pla-stic chains in other materialsfor use under special condi-tions, please see page 9.

Acetal Acetal is a thermoplastic material with very good mechanicaland thermal properties. The material can also be characterizedby great strength, elasticity and dimensional stability. Acetal isresistant to a wide selection of chemicals. Acetal has good qua-lities for slide material, low coefficient of friction and a goodresistance to wear.Recommended temperature area: -40 to +90°C (-40 to +194°F).

PlasticSpecial Grades

The following materials can beoffered as special materials:

Glass reinforced polypropy-lene - AR

Glass reinforced polyester -GR

Anstistatic material - AS

Polycarbonate - PC

Polyamide - PA66

Flame Retardant Polyamide - FR

Polyvinylidenfluoride - PVDF

Polyamide - PA6

Note:The dimensions in this cata-logue are for acetal grades.Dimensions are different whenother materials are used, pleasecontact uni-chains for details.

When using AS and AR thetensile force is reduced by50%.

Please, contact uni-chains ifmaterials other than those listedabove are required.

Material Properties

Glass Reinforced Polypropylene - ARAR is an acid resistant material which is used where very high chemical re-sistance is required. The limited mechanical strength of polypropylene isconsiderably improved by the glass fiber reinforcement.Colour: White.

Glass Reinforced Polyester - GRGlass reinforced polyester is a material with an extremely high resistance towear and heat.Colour: Black.

Antistatic Material - ASElectrically conductive acetal is used where the build-up of static electricitymust be avoided e.g. in the aerosol and electronics industry.Colour: Black

Polycarbonate - PCPolycarbonate is characterized by being extremely impact proof, even at lowtemperatures. Polycarbonate is only used for Snap-On chains.Colour: Grey.

Polyamide - PA66Polyamide PA66 is a thermoplastic material with many fine properties. Thematerial has a high resistance to wear and high strength and great stiffness.Furthermore polyamide has a large temperature area.Colour: Black.

Flame Retardant Polyamide - FRFlame retardant polyamide is a fire restricting material used in surroundingswith the danger of igniting the chain.Colour: White.

Polyvinylidenfluoride - PVDFPolyvinylidenflouride is characterized by a specially high chemical resist-ance which can be supplied where very high chemical resistance is required.Furthermore PVDF has high wear resistance and good friction properties.Colour: White.

Polyamide - PA6Polyamide PA6 is a thermoplastic material. The combination of mechanicalproperties and chemical resistance makes this material suitable for manysituations. Polyamide has a high resistance of dynamic loads and a high wearresistance.Colour: Black.

uni 881 Super Flex chain has aspecial design bearing shoe on theunderside. The SFL shoe ensuresthat the chain is always held total-ly flat against the wearstrips incurves. Its design also reducesvibrations. Therefore the problemswith transportation of unstablebottles and containers are mini-mized.SFL chain can be lifted out of thecarry wearstrips without the needfor any tools. Cleaning of the con-veyor, removal of broken glass iseasy. Please, note the R-type has a mini-mum turn radius of 200 mm (7.87 inch). uni 982-SCThe great advantage of thisside-flexing chain type is that itis assembled without pins. Thus the chain can be disas-sembled “on the spot” withoutusing tools. This makes the uni 982-SC very suitable foruse where the sanitary require-ments are high.

At the same time uni 982-SC isa safety chain and suitable foruse where personnel work inclose contact with the movingchain. The risk of conveyedproducts, loose clothes or fin-gers being caught between thechain links is reduced by theover-lapping flights.
