100 Percent Youth workshop kicks off in Kuala Lumpur ! UNI APRO You(TH) – Including You workshop started on 16 th October 2014 at the Federal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur attended by 50 young unionists and 11 resource person from the Asia Pacific region. This youth workshop is being held in collaboration with UNI Apro and The Federation of Information and Communication Technology Service Workers of Japan (ICTJ). Fifty participants representing Bangladesh, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and special invitees from UNI Africa Youth, from Uganda and Zimbabwe. Since all participants are youth and active in their local unions so to give them general overview of UNI, UNI Apro and Its organizing activities and campaign Brother Satoshi Tamai, Director of Organizing- UNI Apro briefed the participants. Details workshop procedure and methodology was briefed by Sister Alice Chang, Director for Youth Activities – UNI Apro. All fifty participants are divided into six different operational groups namely– Transistors, Fun-tastic, Dollar & Sense, Busy bee, Angels & Assets with their role and responsibilities for entire workshop and youth conference. Brothers and Sisters from ICT Japan & UNI Africa Youth made presentations on their work as youth at the national level; how youth breakthrough in the trade union movement in their respective countries & unions.

Dollar & Sense- The marketing team started collecting the items for sale and opened their shop “Kizuna” (Shop for a cause). Their soul aim was to sell the items to raise fund more than RM 3000 during the youth workshop.The transistors are the journalists and they responsible for all the reporting of activities. Fun-Tastic are the motivators to “Keep us alive” during the workshop. Busy Bee- the time management police authorized to collect fine from latecomers. Angels are for public relations & Assets started to collect $50 as registration fee from the participants.

Participants are given opportunity to explore Globalization in Kuala Lumpur and interview people about their awareness about trade unions. All the group members were asked to visit at least two places which includes “Dataran Merdeka”, a religious place and explore the life of people in the city. The workshop is to fullfill the objective of increasing the youth’s active participation in all level of the UNI Sectors including national and regional level, through developing their leadership skills.

The workshop will be followed by the UNI-Apro youth conference on 19-20 Oct, which will elect its new team for next four years.
