The primary goals
of the University are teaching and research, two inseparable
activities aimed at pursuing critical knowledge open to dialogue
and interaction between cultures, respecting
the freedom of science and teaching.
Given its long-standing identity as a place of general studies, the
University acknowledges
the equal dignity and opportunities of all branches of learning
that assure scientific and educational capital. This University
protects and innovates its cultural heritage, responding to the
different needs of society.

The CLA provides training and language skills assessment to both
students and staff of the University of Bologna.
It includes 38 libraries providing 75 service points. More than 5,000
places for study and research. Access to over
500 databases, 24,000 on-line journals, 152,000 e-books.
This is the University institution that promotes student merit from
admission onwards, providing highly qualified and particularly inter-
disciplinary learning programmes.
Alma English Project
Unique of its kind in Italy, which guarantees the certified knowledge of
the English language free of charge.
Cultural activities and services
TEACHING SUPPORT
University Museum Network
Every year more than 450 extra-curricular activities are offered,
many in collaboration with public and/or local institutions, targeting
both students and the local community. These include meetings with
important cultural figures from around the world, scientific
communication and the promotion of social projects.
A coordinated network of the 13 museums (including the Palazzo
Poggi Museum) protecting and promoting the University's historical
and artistic assets, facilitating their educational value.

Aware of its own international dimension by history

and increase the internationalisation of its scientific
and learning programmes and its organisation.

UNIBO ARGENTINA,BRAZIL AND CHINA
ARGENTINA
The Alma Mater is the first experience of an Italian university branch
abroad. It coordinates important research programmes, post graduate
projects and academic collaboration with Latin America.
CHINA
The University of Bologna hosts one of Italy's most active branches of the
Confucius Institute, and was recognised as the best of 2012.
Local relations of the more than 800 Chinese students at Bologna are
supported by the "Collegio di Cina" Association.
BRAZIL
The University was chosen by the Brazilian Government as national contact
for the Science without borders project, involving 15 Universities, the
National Research Council, Telecom Italia, the BIOGEM
Research Centre and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics.
in 2013 coordinated the arrival of 1,436 grant recipients and which aims to
welcome 6,000 in 4 years.

These objectives and tasks are pursued through the responsible
contribution of all the university community members, on the basis of
their own skills: students, professors, researchers and technical-
administrative personnel. A primary value of the entire community is the
respect of the individual's fundamental rights, which the University
