Our expectations for wearing your uniformOathall Community College is a uniformed school.  All of our students, withoutexception, wear the same uniform which we believe gives a sense of unity andidentity.  We ask parents/carers to support us by ensuring their child attends eachday in the correct attire with the necessary equipment to learn.

For Information

We are planning to introduce house ties to compliment the new Housesystem. This will mean that girls will have the opportunity to wear ties. Forthe present, however and until further notice, our uniform policy is asoutlined above.

Oathall Community College

Oathall is a “uniform” school. All students wear uniform without exception. Auniform helps to give unity and identification to a school; it can make less obviousthe different circumstances of families and is a protection for both parents andstudents from the temptations of temporary extremes of fashion. Those parentswho might experience financial difficulties should not hesitate to contact theCollege. The College would see it as reasonable for a particular item orappearance to be allowed if it is a requirement of a faith or culture. This would beunless the item or appearance compromises the learning or health of the student orothers. We are grateful to parents for their full support in seeing that highstandards are maintained in the wearing of uniform. Our students haveconsiderable pride in the membership of this College: their co-operation withparents in this matter is indicative of that feeling.

All students are expected to be in full uniform each day and the College reservesthe right to decide when an item of uniform or appearance does not conform toour policy. We ask parents to provide a written note or contact a student’s grouptutor if there is a temporary problem with uniform or appearance. Where noreasonable grounds exist students can expect a consequence which may involvebeing provided with a correct item of uniform for the day or with parents’knowledge and approval being requested to return home to change, with missedschool time being made up. Refusal by students to comply with such requests orpersistently not abiding to our uniform expectations can be subject to formalCollege sanctions.

In order to comply with our policy we recommend that standard uniform items notpurchased from our preferred uniform suppliers are bought from the schooluniform departments of high street retailers or supermarkets and not from fashionretailers.

We expect students to ensure they are prepared for lessons – to do so the following mustbe brought daily:

· Pens and pencils, with other essential (in particular a ruler) items in a suitable case

· Requirements for lessons that day:

- Exercise books, files or text books and completed homework

- PE Kit if required (check indoor or outdoor lesson)

- DT food ingredients if required

We recommend students check their timetables the night before on Insight to ensure theyare prepared for the next day

Please support your child in learning to be organised for school by not bringing forgotten items into school during the school day.

Equipment and being ready to learn

· The uniform Litchfield tartan skirt must be worn at an appropriate length that is at or justbelow the knee.

· Trousers must be a simple, plain black, straight or boot-cut tailored style. The followingstyles are not acceptable: leggings, treggings, jeggings, ski-pants, jean or jean styles, trouserswith flares, culottes or shorts. Trousers must not be excessively clingy or skin tight andshould not have visible detailing such as wide-waistbands, decorative buttons, belts,decorative zips or logos. Note – an acceptable style of trouser is available from our uniformsuppliers

· Tights should be black opaque or neutral

· The following styles of footwear are not acceptable – shoes with extreme platform, high orstiletto heels, ankle boots or boots, sandal or sling-back styles, canvas shoes, plimsolls ortraining shoes

· Blazers must be worn at all times around the College unless permission is given for theirremoval

· During school hours coats, hats, gloves and scarves may only be worn at lunch and breaktimes. Hoodies may not be worn under blazers at any time.

· Extremes of hairstyle or hair colour are not permitted

· Jewellery worn in facial or body piercing is not allowed

· Students are only permitted to wear one discreet plain metal stud in each ear

· Any make up worn must be discreet but we do not allow nail varnish to be worn

· Apart from watches no other jewellery or other such decorative items like wrist bands maybe worn

· We strongly recommend that all clothing is marked with the student’s name
