UNIFORM POLICY

INTRODUCTIONThe Uniform Policy of Horizon Christian School documents the standard of what is acceptable in relation to the clothing worn by students at the school. This Uniform Policy is applied to all students of the school, and includes a range of clothing for students. Horizon Christian School’s uniform is determined by the Governing Board. Horizon’s Uniform Policy plays an important role in promoting a positive image of the school and creating a sense of identity among students and the community.

POLICY STATEMENTHorizon enjoys a high standard of uniform compliance and the wearing of our school uniform is compulsory. Parents are expected to ensure their children attend school in the correct uniform at all times. Parents have given their undertaking to have students comply with Horizon’s uniform expectations by signing the Parent Agreement during the student enrolment process.

Should a student fail to wear a required uniform item this must be accompanied by a note of explanation. Infringement to our uniform expectations are a breach of our school rules. Students wearing incorrect items of uniform will be asked to wear replacement ‘correct’ items from our pool of clothing held in the office.

It is our express intention that we will have full uniform compliance each school day.

Jewellery: No jewellery is to be worn except for small plain gold / silver studs or sleepers, and a watch. A plain fine neck chain with or without a cross is acceptable if worn under uniform.

Piercings: No body piercings are permitted and must be removed before enrolling, other than:

• Girls: 2 plain small studs/ sleepers per ear.

• Boys: 1 plain stud/ sleeper per ear

Tattoos: No visible tattoos are permitted

HairGIRLS: Hair must be neat and tidy and off the face. For safety in some learning areas, longer hair must be tied back completely (eg: in a ponytail or plaits). Hair must not be of unnatural colour, or be extreme in hair fashion.

The Principal and Leadership reserve the right to determine inappropriate hair style.

Hair accessories such as ribbons, hairclips, scrunchies and headbands must be bottle green. Hair elastics must be bottle green or black.

BOYS: Hair must be no longer than collar length and no shorter than a number 2. Hair must be neat and tidy and off the face. Hair must not be of an unnatural colour. Extreme hair styles are not permitted (eg: dreadlocks, rats tails, mohawks, under shaves). Boys must not wear their hair in ponytails, ‘man buns’ or similar. All boys must be clean-shaven. Facial hair is not acceptable.

The Principal and Leadership reserve the right to determine inappropriate hair style.

MAKEUP AND NAILS

PRIMARY SCHOOL: Make up and nail polish are not acceptable for Primary School students.

SECONDARY SCHOOL: Girls in Secondary School may wear minimal, natural-looking foundation/ cover-up makeup for instances of covering blemishes. No other makeup is acceptable. Secondary school girls may wear clear nail polish only (no artificial nails are acceptable).

HATS: Compulsory in Terms 1 and Term 4 when playing outside, or out of classrooms.

NAME TAGS: Please name all clothing items, including hats.

SUMMER AND WINTER UNIFORM

Full Summer uniform is compulsory in terms 1 and 4.

Full Winter uniform is compulsory in terms 2 and 3.

The last two weeks of term 1 and the first two weeks of term 2 are transition weeks when either FULL Summer or FULL Winter uniform is worn.

The final two weeks of term 3 and the first two weeks of term 4 are transition weeks when either FULL Summer or FULL Winter uniform is worn.

For excursions/photos/special events the school will specify what uniform is to be worn.

SINGLE EVENT UNSEASONAL WEATHER UNIFORM DAY Students will be notified the day before a ‘single event unseasonal weather uniform day’ and can only wear transition uniform on the days declared in advance by the school.

When summer uniform is normally worn, the temperature would need to be forecast below 18°C to declare an Unseasonal Transition Uniform day. When winter uniform is normally worn, the temperature would need to be forecast above 24°C to declare an Unseasonal Transition Uniform day.
