Writing Situation: A group of parents players recently filed a lawsuit against six national and international soccer leagues. The lawsuit accuses the leagues of not taking steps to make the sport safe. Writing Directions: Because there are so many young people in our community involved in soccer, the local paper is seeking public opinion on whether or not soccer rules should be changed. Write an editorial arguing for or against changing soccer rules to increase safety for the players. Use information from the article as well as your own ideas for support.

APPROPRIATE introductory paragraph for the “Soccer Safety?” prompt you read earlier. Follow the AIM strategy. You may use your plan/prewrite or come up with a new idea.• The paragraph needs to be complete at the end of 10 minutes or it is

disqualified. Legible handwriting matters!• The tribe with the most engaging introduction wins 10 points for their

tribe; the second place tribe earns 5 points for their tribe; the third place tribe earns 2 points.

correctly form a 3.8 paragraph.• When your team is finished, raise your hand. I will record the groups

in order. At the end of seven minutes I will check your work.• The first team to correctly organize the sentences will earn 15 points

for their tribe; the second team to correctly organize the sentences will earn 10 points for their tribe; and the third tribe to correctly organize the sentences will earn 5 points for their tribe.
