Action Verbs2DAY 1Action verb expresses a physical or mental action Ex. My sister plays chess. She likes playing.

Transitive verb an action verb followed by a word that answers the question what? or whom?Ex. Keisha drank water.

Direct Objects and Indirect Objects5DAY 2Direct object receives the action of the verb in a sentence and tells whom or what is affected by the verbs action

Ex. Maria fixed the bike.

Indirect object always appears before the direct object and tells to whom or for whom the action is done.

Ex. David gave his sister a book.

Mechanics and Usage:Quotation Marks and Dialogue7DAY 3Use quotation marks before and after someones exact words.

Begin a quotation with a capital letter.

Commas and periods always appear inside quotation marks.

If a quotation comes at the end of a sentence, use a period, question mark, or exclamation point to end it.

If a sentence continues after a quotation is given, use a comma, question mark, or exclamation point to close the quotation. 8
