Prosperity & Productivity I.  1920’s prosperity was a result of Republican pro-business

II.  Prosperity was also a result of abundant power sources including the widespread use of electricity.

ProhibitionI.  1917 - Congress passed the 18th Amendment

A.  Banned the manufacture, sale and consumption of alcohol in the USA

II.  To obtain liquor illegally, drinkers went underground to hidden saloons known as speakeasies

III.  “Speak-Easies” – secret bars / bootleggers- sellers of illegal liquor (moonshine)

community thanks to the Great Migration of WWI
