language points
1) suppose 及物动词,意为“推断;料想”后可接宾语从句,也可用“ suppose+sb.(+to be)+n/adj” 表示“认为某人…”
例句:• I suppose that you should forgive tom
for his fault.
• I suppose Mrs. Smith( to be ) a teacher.
2) smooth 形容词,意为“平整的;平滑的;顺畅的;悦耳的”副词形式 smoothly 意为“平滑地;顺利地”。
例句:• The sea was smooth.
• The piece of wood is smooth.
3) spare 形容词,意为“空闲的;不用的” in one’s spare time 意为“在某人的空闲时间”例句:
• He often help the old people in his spare time.
• We have a spare room for the guests.
4) in that case 意为“既然那样;即使那样的话”
例句:• You don’t like the job? in that case, why
don’t you quit?case 用作名词意为“情况;实情”。例句:• Is this the case that have you lost all your
money?
What Do You Feel Like Watching Today? While some people only stick to one kind of
movie, I like to watch different kinds
depending on how I feel that day. When I’m
down or tired, I prefer movies that can cheer
me up. Comedies like Men in Black or
cartoons like Kung fu Panda have funny
dialogues and usually have a happy ending.
3a Read the passage. Underline the different kinds of movies and circle the movie names.
The characters may not be perfect, but they
try their best to solve their problems. After
watching them, I’m filled with hope again
and the problems I have suddenly seem less
serious. Laughing for two hours is a good
way to relax!
I don’t watch dramas or documentaries when
I’m sad or tired. Dramas like Titanic make me
feel even sadder. Documentaries like March of
the Penguins which provide plenty of
information about a certain subject can be
interesting, but when I’m tired I don’t want to
think too much. I don’t mind action movies like
Spider-Man when I’m too tired to think. always
saves the world just in time.
I can just shut off my brain, sit back and
enjoy watching an exciting superhero who
always save the world just in time.
Once in a while, I like to watch movies
that are scary. They can be fun, but I’m too
scared to watch them alone. I always bring a
friend who isn’t afraid of these kinds of
movies, and it doesn’t feel so scary anymore.
Language points1) stick to 意为 “坚持 ( 意见原则计划决定诺言
等 )” 有 “执意不改变”的意思。• I still stick to what I said yesterday.(a) stick to 动词,意为 “粘贴;将…刺入”其过
于分词和过去式为 stuck 。 Stick … into 意为 “把…插入”

road.• There is plenty of rain here in China.注意:A number of “ ”也是 很多;大量 的意思。但只能修饰可数名词复数。

3) shut off 意为 “关闭;停止运转”,通常用于关闭电器或切断煤气水气等。
