Diesel Truck Idling Law Diesel powered vehicles (military or otherwise) cannot idle for no more than 3 minutes. No visible emissions. Military and emergency vehicles exempt if responding to an emergency. Open Burning Prohibition Cannot burn leaves, refuse, building material, outdated regulations, or sensitive material. NO BURN BARRELS Architectural Coatings Limits the Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOC’s) content in various coating and paints including bituminous pavement sealer, flat coating, floor coating, form release compound, lacquer, clear brushing, primer, sealer, and undercoat, quick-dry enamel, sanding sealer, shellac, stain, varnish, traffic marking coating, waterproofing concrete/masonry sealer, wood preservative coating, etc. If you or a contractor is applying any architectural coatings, ensure the VOC content doesn’t exceed the limits defined in the “State Limit Operative Date 1/1/05 column of Table 1, VOC content Limits for Architectural Coating”.

Asbestos is present is some form in most of our buildings. If facility commander wants to remodel the building, please contact the facility armorer or regional maintenance manager. If you don’t know who your armorer or regional manager is, contact Ms. Rosemary Trocki at (609) 530 7128. They’ll help you prepare the proper paperwork to conduct the remodeling work. OEC reviews project requests to ensure asbestos isn’t impacted and removes it when necessary. A summary asbestos management plan for all our facilities is at http://www.nj.gov/military/installations/all_facilities.pdf. This is not a comprehensive report. There’s no law that says we have to remove it just because it’s there. The laws ensure we maintain it so that it isn’t a hazard to building occupants.

All storage rooms must be in order, items shelved and appropriately marked and floor free of debris. Flammable items must not be stored in closets. Flammable products must be stored in cages or supply rooms in approved lockers. Items must be stored in larger storage areas throughout the facility. We have no award program for trying to get as much as we can in a storage room. This type of storage is not acceptable and a potential fire and safety hazard.

Immediately contain all releases of universal wastes and other residues from universal wastes. Safe cleanup of broken fluorescent bulbs differs from cleanup of conventional broken glass or incandescent bulbs. 99% of the mercury is typically contained in the phosphor, especially on lamps that are near their end of life. A typical safe cleanup usually involves careful disposal of any broken glass, as well as any loose white powder (fluorescent glass coating), in accordance with local hazardous waste laws. A wet towel should be used instead of a vacuum cleaner for cleanup of glass and powder, to reduce the vaporization of the mercury into the air. Call the regular lamp recycler to see whether or not they will take the broken lamps. All cleanup materials should go into the sealed container for proper disposal.
