Unit Flag Football (Beginner Class)

Day 3

Objectives: By the end of class all students will be able to:

Perform the basics of passing a football

Perform the basics of catching a football

Perform basic level blocking skills

Organize as a team to play a football game

Have a general understanding on the rules of football

Equipment:

Cover jerseys (# class dependent)

footballs (# class dependent)

Cones (# class dependent)

Safety:

Forbid tackles only flag grabs

Make sure space is open and free of foreign objects during drills and game

Assessment Suggestions:

Direct observation

Completion of drills

Effort of participation in the game

85 minutes total

Minute 0 to 5 Locker rooms dressing out

Minute: 5 to 20-30 Warm-up activities/ have students get flags on after 1st activity

4 person push-ups, have students get into groups of 4 and perform a 4 person push-up. I plan to

give little to no instruction and allow this to be a critical thinking/ team builder to figure out how

to perform 5 push-ups IF there is an odd number group can try a 5 person push-up.

Have everyone put on flags

Flag tag, have 2 people “IT” everyone else lined up across the gym on one wall. Object to run

across the gym to the other without your flag being pulled. If your flag gets pulled they join the

“Its” Last person standing wins.

Minute: 20-30 to 25-35

Have the students get into their teams already determined. Spread back out and work on plays

again without a defense they must huddle up before every play.

Minute 25-35 to 28-38

Remind/Refresh/ have students recite some rules (offside’s, holding, pass interference, false

start, how we are starting the games, or restarting play after a score)

Minute 28-38 to minute 75

Play a full game(s) of football. If short on people make the field smaller and use cones to show

where the end zone is. If an abundant of players, use both sides of the field to have 3 games at

once using cones again to symbolize the end zone. Have them rotate fields to pay different

teams.

Minute 75 to 85

Send students to locker room to prepare for next class
