Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. It’s essential to getting and keeping a job with a livable wage and health benefits. A good Education is fundamental to a community’s economic prosperity.

The California Department of Corrections uses 3rd grade literacy performance data to plan the number of future prisons the State will need to build.

California’s prison population is approximately 150,000 according to a recent New York Times report. Equals 112,500 inmates. At $50,000 per year it costs taxpayers $5,625,000,000 per year.

Silent reading is the most assessed … the least addressed instructional component in reading. Reading Plus is a computer based reading intervention system focused on structured silent reading practice.… in one semester results show that students increase their reading level by 1 1/2 to 2 grades

Born Learning is funded locally by United Way of Northern Santa Barbara County....in partnership with Santa Barbara County Family Care Center. Community Action Commission - Head Start & KSBY TV

The Imagination Library is a United Way Program that will provide a brand new, age appropriate book, every month from birth to kindergarten, for every child in our county. The child’s book will be delivered right to their door each month. These books are selected by a panel of educators and are geared to the child’s specific age.
