Focused FundingGrantsUnited Way Fox Citiesprovides Focused FundingGrants twice per year. Thesegrants are designed topromote approaches tosolving a community problemas well as to support existingprogram expansion. Thefollowing agencies received acollective total of $100,000 ingrant money for the fall cycleof 2014: Boys and Girls Clubsof the Fox Valley, CommunityFamily Resource Centers, FoxValley Veterans Council,Housing Partnership of theFox Cities, NAMI Fox Valleyand Sexual Assault CrisisCenter. Read about how theorganizations will use thegrant funding.

Diaper Bank to be Featured at National ConferenceRhonda Hannemann, Community Development staff at United Way FoxCities, has been invited by the National Diaper Bank Network to shareinformation about the success of the Fox Cities Diaper Bank at the 2014National Diaper Bank Conference. Rhonda will be presentinginformation outlining our unique community­wide efforts to providenearly 400,000 diapers annually to families in need through the DiaperBank, an initiative of United Way Fox Cities. Diaper Bank leaders fromacross the country will learn about the generosity of the Fox Citiesthrough volunteer repacking efforts, diaper drives and the Post­Crescent's annual "Dollars for Diapers" Do It! Campaign. Thank you toeveryone who as supported the Fox Cities Diaper Bank! Read aboutvolunteers who repacked 35,000 diapers for the Diaper Bank in oneday.

Updated Results Released for PATH ProgramUpdated outcomes for United Way's PATH (Providing Access toHealing) for Students have been tabulated through August 31, 2014.New numbers show that, since its inception in 2008, a total of 830students who were unable to obtain care elsewhere in the communityhave been served through the school­based program, includingapproximately 24 new students served from March 2014 to August2014. Many of the students served by PATH were on long waiting lists ofup to a year and a half elsewhere in the community. 75% of students

  The United Way Speak blog isa great way to stay engaged inthe work of United Way FoxCities. New articles are posted

reported progress toward treatment goals (an increase of 2% comparedto results reported in March 2014), 72% reported experiencing reducedsymptoms (an increase of 3% compared to results reported in March2014) and 96% said they would return to therapy if needed, a numberconsistent with earlier reports. Due to its success, the PATH programwas recently featured in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and onWisconsin Public Radio.

Youth Board Engages the Next GenerationIn September, United Way Fox Cities' Youth Board welcomed over 35local high school students to the first bi­monthly meeting for the 2014­2015 school year! Many returning students attended the meeting alongwith several new students who have committed to making a differencein our community by serving on the Youth Board. Students willparticipate throughout the year volunteering for numerous communityorganizations, awarding grant funding offered to youth­driven projectsand planning theme ideas for the annual February youth leadershipevent, Teen Symposium. We are very excited for another year of theYouth Board and encourage interested 10­12th grade students to apply.Applications are accepted anytime. Please visit our website for moreinformation, including downloadable applications.

Susan Richards, 2­1­1 Manager Retires

After over 12 years serving our community throughUnited Way, Susan Richards, 2­1­1 Manager,retired from her position. In 2001, Susan Richardsjoined United Way Fox Cities as a campaignassistant. She was then hired to lead Informationand Referral which, in 2005, became United Way2­1­1 under Susan's leadership. Since itsinception, 2­1­1 has grown to serve 10 localcounties 24­hours a day, every day, through a free,

confidential phone service and searchable online database. In 2013,12,705 calls were answered and 83,975 website inquiries were made,connecting those in need to community resources.

United Way Welcomes New StaffIn July, United Way Fox Cities welcomed Michelle Pierquet­Hohner asthe new 2­1­1 Manager. Michelle has a degree in Human DevelopmentFamily Studies with a concentration in child development. She hasseveral years of experience working in a hospital setting where she waspart of a family­centered care approach. She also worked asthe Services Director at the YWCA in Green Bay/DePere. Most recently,Michelle was employed with CASA of Brown County as AdvocateSupervisor where she was responsible for coordinating support forabused and neglected children. Michelle said, "I am honored andexcited about the opportunity to take on the role of2­1­1 Manager. To be able to assist individuals byconnecting them with more than 5,000 health andhuman services in our community is prettyamazing! I am looking forward to getting to knowand establishing relationships with our communitypartners." Read about how 2­1­1 helped residentswho lost their health insurance.
