Eagon Heads New Division
A fourth major division, Educational Services and Innovative Programs, has been established at the University with Dr. Burdette W. Eagon as administrator.
President Lee Sherman Dreyfus announced that Dr. Eagon has been promoted from Dean of the Education College to Associate Vice President for academic affairs. Professor Orland Radke, Director of Extension, has been named acting dean, replacing Dr. Eagon.
Dreyfus said the division would coordinate activities intended as services or adjunct to the main function of on-campus instruction. A second purpose is to administer and implement innovative programs.
(Besides the educational services and innovative programs, the other three divisions are academic affairs, business affairs and student affairs.)
The new division will include the learning resources center, the speech and hearing clinic, records and registration, extended services, instruction-. . . .

Plans have been completed and indications are that more WSU Alumni are planning to return to Stevens Point the weekend of October 17, 18, and 19 than have ever gathered for any previous Homecoming, according to Rick Frederick, Alumni director.
The weekend celebration starts with the Friday night banquet at the Holiday Inn, October 17, a repeat of last year's so successful event. A cocktail hour begins at 6:30 and the big Alumni dance follows the dinner. Frederick says the after dinner speeches this year will be short, making more time for reunion fun. Dinner and dance are $5.00 each. The cocktail hour is dutch treat.
Saturday, the 18th, is the big game day, with Stevens Point facing Stout State University. The parade, as usual, will be the big attraction of the morning. A dutch treat brunch will be in progress at the University Center from 10 to 12 o'clock so that alums can register at one convenient spot. Many will arrange to meet their friends there.
The S. club banquet will be at the Stevens Point Country club and will be of special interest this year to for-

Eagon (Cont.) iate vice presidency, Dreyfus said,
- "We very much need to pull all of these service functions and innovative programs into one unit under the direction and guidance of a top level administrator. This is the division that will have much to do with the dreams and future of this university, and I feel confident entrusting that mission to 'Bud' Eagon."
In his first assignment, Dr. Eagon went to South Vietnam this summer to aid in formation of governing councils for schools in that tiny, war-torn nation. The university continues to provide services in South Vietnam through the Agency for International Development.
Dr. Eagon joined the Stevens Point faculty in 1950. He is a graduate of Oshkosh State University and the University of Wisconsin and has the doctorate degree from George Peabody College. He is a native of Winneconne, Wisconsin.
Besides publishing numerous articles in professional education journals, Dr. Eagon has served on accreditation and consultantship teams for schools in scattered parts of the country for t h e North Central Accreditation Association.
His current trip to South Vietnam was his fourth since the university began sending officials to make surveys and recommendations for improving education there.
Both Dr. Eagon and Radke have been dean of men since coming here. Dr. Eagon also has been chairman of the education department and assistant director of the laboratory school and assistant director of the teacher education and placement programs.
Homecoming (cont.) mer athlefes, for a Hall of Fame is to be instituted, and several outstanding athletes will be named for honored niches as the first entries.
A Sunday golf tournament for men will extend the weekend activities to the 19th. This new event is arousing much interest and a good turnout of
" golfers and spectators is expected. The tee off breakfast at the Stevens Point Country club will be from 7:45-10 o'clock, with golf starting at 9:00. There will be eight prizes awarded.
The entry fee of $7.50 includes breakfast, golf and the use of all club facilities, including a sauna bath. Motorized carts .will be available for rent.

Legislators Campus
Two South Vietnamese congressmen who will help design the national policy of education in their homeland, visited Stevens Point State University in July for a l 0-day conference with campus officials.
Cao Van Chieu, chairman of the culture, education and youth committee, and Duong Minh Kinh, deputy chairman and apporteur of the education committee were here to seek a comprehensive understanding of higher education objectives in America.
Their tour, sponsored by their government and the U. S. Agency for International Development, included visits to several schools in this country plus Korea and the Republic of China.
William B. Vickerstaff, Sp e c i a 1 Assistant to the President at Stevens Point State, made local conference arrangements and met the two officials and their interpreter in Washington D. C. upon their arrival to the states.
The visitors conferred with President Lee Sherman Dreyfus, and other university officials.
The visitors also attended a meeting of the Board of Regents in Madison and met with Governor Warren Knowles and state legislators.
Agency for International Development officials continue to send South Vietnamese officials to Stevens Point
State because it has many common goals with schools of higher learning in South Vietnam.
After the war, the colleges and universities in Southeast Asia are expected to experience the same kind of development as has Stevens Point State in recent years.
Presently, there is no organized code of 'school laws governing elementary or secondary education nor a structured system of statutes relating to higher education in South Vietnam. These two representatives of the 15-member culture, education and youth committee will be responsible for drafting the code and laws.
Vickerstaff said the two officials will make critical examinations through discussion and field observation of the historical development of higher education, role of coordinating boards, academic problems of curriculum, cocurriculum and financial development, and roles of the governor, legislators, regents, administrative officials, faculty and students in policy formulation and implementation.
Both of the visitors have been teachers and have served in the South Vietnamese house of representatives since the well publicized election in their homeland in 1967.

New Sports Facilities
New sports facilities have been added this past summer at the University with the completion of synthetic-surfaced tennis courts, a track field and a large baseball field.
The track is at the corner of Reserve Street and Maria Drive, covering an area about 700 by 280 feet. It includes a limestone shot put circle, high jump, long jump, pole vault and practice football areas.
The surfacing is an all weather rubber like material , durable and easy on the sportsman's knees.
A six foot fence separates the field from a 35 by 300 foot sodded strip for spectators .
The baseball diamond is across the street and covers an area almost the size of a city block. Center field is 390 feet from home plate and the foul line 320 feet away. The fence is 60 feet from the foul line.
Four tennis courts on a total area 122 by 212 feet also have the synthetic rubberized surface plus sidewalks, fences and lighting. Eight basketball backstops will be placed above to provide multi-purpose use of the lot.
The courts are east of Hyer Hall on lllinois Avenue.
