I am the new 4-H Representative in Glenn County. I grew up involved in agriculture as I lived on a small farm of beef cattle and took numerous 4-H and FFA projects. I held many leadership positions including 4-H All Star in 2007. I was the 4-H Program Assistant in Glenn County for two years while attending CSU, Chico, majoring in Ag Education and Science. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in December 2012. I would like to help Glenn County youth expand their horizons and compete and participate at county level and beyond. Be sure to look for upcoming conferences and events to attend. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you involved in the 4-H Program. Thank you everyone for your dedication to and support of the 4-H Program.

Glenn Countywide 4-H Photography Project 2013 - 2014 Project Outline

Welcome fellow photographers!!

For this project, you will need a Digital Camera - a compact Digital is fine. The project will cover basic photography, digital shooting modes (landscape, macro, portrait, etc.), natural and flash lighting techniques, and composition. A meeting will be held on how to properly mat your photos for entry in the fair in April.

For those with a DSLR Camera, topics will include how to obtain correct exposure using ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, as well as an introduction to White Balance.

Our goal is to help you become better photographers, while having fun! We will spend a lot of time taking photos and plan on going on several photo field trips (usually Saturdays or Sundays). This will include shooting when the light is good – early mornings, as well as late afternoons/evenings.

We are going to continue the "One Word Photo Project" this year. A new list of words will be handed out at our first meeting. Each month you will use the word of the month as an idea for a photograph. This is voluntary, but it’s fun to see just how creative you can be with your photography.

We will meet once a month starting in October (no meeting in December).

“Tee Off & Fly Freely” The sport of disc golf evolved as an offshoot of the many games spawned by the Frisbee craze. The game started with people using Frisbees and aiming at targets made up of trees, trash cans, light poles, pipes and whatever else was handy. Disc golf is one of the best lifetime fitness sports. It is easy to learn, a healthy activity and accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels. If you can throw a Frisbee and you like to have fun, you can play disc golf.

This is a beginner class and primary members are welcome. This class will cover the basics of the game and each class day we will visit a different course. Classes will take place in February through March and if classes are canceled due to inclement conditions, make up dates will be scheduled. 4-H members will need to purchase their own disc and will need their own transportation to the course. There is a class cap of fifteen, so first come, first served. Any questions, contact Marty Cloyd at 865-1054.

4-H ROUNDUP DECEMBER 2013 & JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2014 PAGE 9

Clover 4-H On Monday, November 11th on a cloudy day, the Clover 4-H meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by President Kat Taylor. The flag salute was led by Lane O'Reilly and the 4-H pledge was led by Sean Carrier. Next we had an ice breaker activity which was the hula hoop game and was lots of fun. Roll call was taken and the September meeting minutes were read and a motion to approve was made by Meghan Weinrich and seconded by Aiden Imperatrice. The officers then asked the 6th grade and older members to move and sit next to the younger members to help them participate in the meeting. This was followed by old business that included the Country Pumpkins Corn Maze work day and the Willows Pheasant Association Dinner. Gracie Flowerdew and Karissa Lutz spoke about these events and said they had fun working there. A member of the Pheasant Association called to thank the Clover 4-H kids who worked there and said they did a great job. We then had one more ice breaker activity led by Garrett Otterson. Some of the new business discussed was the upcoming livestock training day and judging day. We also talked about adopt-a-family and donating our window display award plus an additional $400.00 to the County 4-H Council to use toward this. Meghan Weinrich made a motion to donate the money and Grayson Taylor seconded it. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Colton Geiger and seconded and the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm. Submitted by Maddy Nissen, Clover 4-H Reporter

Willows 4-H Club This year the Willows 4-H club is off to a great start. The club has already participated in many activities. Several members helped to put together a winning window display for National 4-H Week. We also helped at Country Pumpkins corn maze, and had a team enter in the Bowl-a-Thon to raise money for Make a Difference Day. There are several upcoming events that members will be helping with. During our last club meeting, our key leader handed out awards that members achieved last year. It was wonderful to see all the hard work paying off. Project meetings are also well underway. You can see some of the arts and crafts projects members have made by visiting the Willows 4-H Facebook page. Foods and Nutrition is getting underway, this popular project will be fun and tasty for all. The market animal projects are also beginning. There are several requirements for these projects for the children to be able to sell their animals at the fair. Please ask your project leaders if you have any questions on what is expected. We would like to thank all of the parents and volunteers who help the kids with all their 4-H projects each year. Without you, we would not be able to participate in and experience such a super program. Submitted by:
