Getting  Started  with  Second  Life  

Go  to  www.secondlife.com  and  click  on  the  orange  “Join  Now”  button.    

 Please  Read  Each  Page  Carefully  

 Use  information  you  can  remember    

 Don’t  share  your  password  

 Don’t  use  false  information  

 

The  Second  Life  Viewer  will  download  to  your  desktop.    Double  click  on  the  “Second  Life  Installer”  icon  and  follow  the  instructions  to  install  the  Viewer  in  your  applications/programs  folder.    Once  the  Viewer  is  in  the  appropriate  place,  double  click  to  launch  the  second  life  Viewer.  

 

Once  you  click  on  “Join”  follow  the  on  screen  instructions  for  creating  your  second  life  account.      At  the  end  of  account  creation    it  will  download  Second  life  onto  your  computer    Important:  you  can  change  your  avatars  appearance  in  after  you  create  it  you  are  forced  to  stay  with  your  first  selection.

When  the  Second  Life  viewer  opens,  you  will  see  the  log  in  screen.    You  will  need  to  enter  your  Username  and  password  then  click  Log  In      Note  for  older  accounts:  Older  accounts  have  first  and  last  names  if  you  are  using  an  old  account  you  will  need  to  use  both  names  with  a  space  between  them  for  your  Username.    

Congratulations!    You  are  now  in  Second  Life!    You  may  see  a  light  grey  cloud  while  your  avatar  is  loading.  This  is  normal  and  will  disappear  once  your  avatar  has  fully  loaded  or  rezzed  in.    You  will  see  popups  read  them  and  then  click  “close”.      

This  is  the  fully  loaded  (rezzed)  avatar.    You  will  arrive  on  Help  Island  and  will  be  able  to  learn  some  of  the  basic  controls  for  moving  your  avatar  and  exploring  Second  Life.        Start  by  reading  the  signs  on  the  wall  and  following  the  instructions.    After  you  complete  the  instructions  follow  the  arrows  on  the  ground  to  the  next  stations.

At  the  top  of  your  screen  type  in  Idahonia  and  press  enter
