The2016BirminghamBowlwillbeplayedThursday,December29,2016,at1p.m.CTathistoricLegionFieldinBirmingham,Alabama.ThegamewillairnationallyonESPNandESPNRadio.
The2016BirminghamBowlwillbethesecondmeetingbetweenthetwoschools,followinga2004meetingwhereSouthCarolinawoninColumbia.
“WearepleasedtoselectUSFandSouthCarolinatoplayinthe2016BirminghamBowl.Thisshouldbeafantasticmatch-upfeaturingtwoteamswhoarejustafewhoursfromourcity,”saidMarkMeadows,ExecutiveDirectoroftheBirminghamBowl.“Weareexcitedtohavethefanbasesofthesetwoteamscometoourgreatcity.IknowthepeopleofBirminghamwillshowvisitingfanswhattruesouthernhospitalityduringbowlweek.WehopetheirfansandtheresidentsofBirminghamcomeouttoseebothteamsplayathistoricLegionField.”
USFHeadCoachWillieTaggartsaidhisteamislookingforwardtocomingtoBirminghamforthegame.
“Thisisagreatopportunityforourprogramtogooutandshowthecountrywhatweareallaboutandaddanothersignificantvictorytoarecord-breakingseason.WewantedtomakegoingtobowlgamesaregularoccurrenceagainatSouthFlorida,soit’sgreattobereturningtoabowlforasecondstraightseasonandhavetheopportunitytoplayanSECopponentinBirmingham,”saidTaggart.
ThiswillbeUSF’ssecondappearanceintheBirminghamBowl.TheBullsdefeatedEastCarolina24-7intheinauguralBirminghamBowlin2006.
CoachMuschampsaidhisteamislookingforwardtotheirtriptoBirmingham.
“We’reexcitedtoplayintheBirminghamBowl,”saidMuschamp.“It’sanotherchanceforthe2016teamtoplaytogether.Italsogivesusanopportunitytocontinuetoimproveourprograminourfirstyear.WelookforwardtoplayinginhistoricLegionField,thesiteofthefirsttwoSECChampionshipgames,andinthestateAlabama,whichwillbeahomecomingforeightofourplayers.”
