Wood Camera IphoneWe have seen a couple of wood cases for iphone out there before, but this one is definitely our favorite. Its retro camera look is laser engraved and comes in sus-tainable walnut and bamboo. These cool covers won’t let your phone crack, scratch or chip with wear. You might wonder, but what about cushion against my precious iPhone? Not to worry. It is created with a thin felt pad to cushion it against the wood. The case comes in 2 sections that slide over each end of your phone and snap together at the center. Also, there are openings for all of the iPhone 4s features including the volume button, the headphone jack, power button, and the camera flash.www.photojojo.com

CWBThe all new 2012 Marius boot is the perfect boot to have in your arsenal if you are loo-king to launch double back rolls. Ok, so you probably won’t be doing any double back rolls soon, but it may help to note that Tre-vor Hansen stuck the fist wake-to-wake dou-ble flip rocking his very own Marius boots. The Marius boot is the most advanced lace up boot ever designed by the brainiacs over at CWB. Starting at the base, the Marius features a shock absorbing heel segment that will reduce impact on landings. Compli-menting the benefits of the SOS heel is the new SuperFeet footbed. CWB teamed up with SuperFeet to produce the most techni-cally advanced footbed ever designed (the-se are $75 insoles, people!) to provide the most naturally fitting wakeboard boot made. Combine that with the Heel Lock Hinge that will reduce your heel lift to exactly 0 and you have a pair of boots that will keep your feet, ankles and knees happier than they have ever been. This is all wrapped up with a dual lace adjustment to give you the most customized fit available.www.ridecwb.com

CamOneThe brand new CamOne infinity, a micro full HD action cam, made by CamOneTec (ACME), Germany, is the biggest coup within the competition of most innovative camera technique in the field of micro cams. The tiny unit distinguishes due to an integrated high resolution live Screen, Full HD recordings in 1080p and several other not yet seen features. Exchangeable lenses as well as digital video transmis-sion for image control are available accessories. The miniature camera impresses with the materials used, like the aluminum housing and precise glass lenses in the optics field, as previously only known from bigger and therefore high-priced pro-ducts. Quite clearly it lifts itself from the well-known competing products made of plastic – not only regarding Picture- and sound quality. In a direct comparison it leaves nearly nothing to be desired, because the best and newest sensor quality is already integrated. Last but not least the mentioned RRP of only 250 EUR,-will ensure a rapid spread in the private, but also professional TV sector.www.acme-online.de

RonixImagine if there was a traveling utensil that magically wasn’t categorized as a board bag at the airport because it looked like a golf bag? If that same bag wasn’t considered oversized when you checked it in on the plane and saved the over-sized bucks? They don’t believe you that it’s a golf bag, you open it up and we even threw in a portable driving range, complete with a green mat and rubber tee box. CTRL WakeboardsA new style of riding all its own whether at the park or wherever you may ride. Its all about the feel of this board on the water, it sets a Line all its own. What’s the secret? Not only did we pipe in a rocker line with a twist, but addd in some compostie materials blended with out ERC 4 Core and you get a lot of punch in one package. The Grind, Jib Base, or whatever you want to call it, everybody has the same ones. Well, while we are all about a nice grind from time to time or getting out for some jibbing, what are we really saying? We don’t use or need the typical grind or jib base. No 4 letter base materials here, you industry peeps know what I’m talking about. Instead, hell, why not just build boards that straight up perform and hold up to some abuse. Putting a band-aid bottom on a board so that the rail can fail or the board can break, what is the point? With Flak, our lowest end boards with a simpler base construction will hold up as well as these Grind or Jib Base boards and believe me we are just getting started on those. Our mid to high end boards you ask, well they just hold up, no BS. We use a nice base material so don’t get me wrong, but we use it because its fast, looks good, and works! Our Shield 1 base features all the reinforcement necessary to take abuse from the parks. Shield 2 goes further still and offers even more protection and durability to hold up under all conditions.www.ctrlwake.eu

Comfort and style were both paramount during the development of Fuse-Ions, as they had to be the ultimate casual item suitable for any occasion. Once applied to the shoe, this thin, durable coating ensures that water simply slides off the shoe without lea-ving behind a single drop. Furthermore, the JStep – an anti-slip sole – ma-kes the Fuse-Ion truly revolutionary. This sole grips the ground beneath it by means of suction, and the sticky Spider rubber ensures the very best grip possible on wet and slippery surfaces. Cosima Giemza, André Botta, Moritz Thiele and Miles Töller went away triumphant from the 2012 Wake The Pool Contest at Leipzig, Germany. Enthusiastic crowd cheered and watched the action on the water whole day long at the tradeshow. In the end they saw some of the best german and international Wakeskaters and Wakeboarders competing for 3000 Euros Cash and some ad-ditional points in the IWWF World Ranking. The Beach & Boat tradeshow at Leipzig was 2nd time host for the Wake The Pool event which was also the tour start of this years Wake Masters powered by Rockstar Energy contest series. Ove-rall 40 Competitors were battling in four categories to find their champions. It was a tough race for the top 3 in all devisions! The wakeskaters where the ones to open up the competition and finaly whole podium went to team Remote-Wakeskates Germany. Al-though delivering a great show, Marcel Tilwitz went home being 3rd. The race for the first place was a close one, but it was Moritz Thiele from Berlin who ended up winning in front of his mate Andy Gnidowski. Moritz showed some serious tricks on the rail as well as a perfect full rotation on the kicker. Enough to be cele-brated as the winner by his fans. It was the Junior Men category to be next. Those teenagers between 12 and 18 years gave their best. In the end, the older ones where able to earn the top positions, but young guns like Philipp Koch showed that we don’t have to worry about the rookies in Germany. In the end it was André Botta from Salzgitter, who won with a stylish and high 540 rotation on the kicker. 2nd place went to Adrian Abeck and 3rd to Leroy Ney. The girls where chosen to be the third category and they showed some stylish and technical riding as well. On top it was Cosima Giemza, the current German Champion from Hamburg, who was able to earn the biggest amount of points by the judges.

The difference to Mona Stenzels’ run, who went home on 2nd place, was the clean and stylish indy-grab while doing her tan-trum over the kicker. Ginger Pfennings was smiling because of her 3rd place, which completed the podium. Highlight of the day was of course the open mens final, which Benny Sae-Chong, who was speaker for this event, called the “Kings-Division”. And it was not overrated because the boys where showing state of the art wakeboarding. That was why some of the well known men already had to leave after the qualification round. The final was a tough fight of three guys: Niko Kasper, Marvin Kalter and Miles Töller. Who would be the one to went away victorious and take the biggest amount of the cash prize? Miles was the one to handle the Rixen BROBox Cable and the Rixen Obstacles Setup best and this was why he earned the 1st place! His Whirly-540 as well as some clean and stylish riding on the rail and YouTurn where his ingredients for the victory. Only 6 points behind it was Rockstar Energy Drink Teamrider Marvin Kalter who took 2nd place. Last years winner Niko Kasper, who would have been able to compete with junior men as well as Miles, took the last place on the po-dium. In the end all where happy because of a good competition, which set a new standard in indoor contest formats. All security aspects worked out perfect and Leipzig saw some top sport al-though the space within the pool is sometimes quite small. Jakob Purrucker, Brand Guides project manager and host for the event: “We are happy about the good cooperation of the Leipziger Messe as well as our sponsors, which was the basis for a per-fect start into this years wakeboard season. Now we are looking forward to the upcoming Wake Masters powered by Rockstar Energy Drink events and of course for our return to Leipzig in 2013. Check out the video: https://vimeo.com/37691604

Hey everyone,

I bet you’ve all heard about Nike I.D, but if you ha-ven’t then you better read on!Nike created this concept over 10 years ago and mana-ged to gather sneaker addicts and new comers around the same opportunity, that of personalizing a shoe from A to Z.As the years passed the website evolved, and today the possibilities are endless. The website is divided into two parts with on one side technical options for run-ners, and on the other side a part that is entirely dedica-ted to style. That way every one can find what they’re looking for, from the classic Dunk to the legendary Jor-dan and even the latest Action Sport model. To achieve your unique model, all you need to do is choose your material, colors and type of outer sole. In other words, all the options are there to help you create a unique and completely personalized sneaker!Just because I have the honor to ride for Nike doesn’t mean I’m not going to have some fun by designing my own pair of shoes! As far as I’m concerned I’ve always liked dark shoes, mostly black with a little bit of white and a black outer sole, nothing too flashy. For me, my own personal touches make them the best shoes ever, but that’s just my advice and I hope you will approve of it. Now it’s you turn to play!

In love with this sport like a father is with his son, we are worried for its future. So how do we pro-tect it from the outside world? How do we give our sport the weapons necessary so that it doesn’t fail in a world we no longer recognize? For over 20 years, wakeboarding has been constantly evolving. It has had its hours of glory and its hours of doubt…but it seems that today, wakeboarding has assured its place as a board sport refe-rence. A new level has been reached, whether it be with associative structures such as the WWA, or brand new technologies. If we had to do a quick assessment of the last two years, what would be in it? It’s a really easy question to answer as there were three major developments. First of all, the revolutionary system created by Sesitec, the “System 2.0”. This technology was able to answer to all of our expectations in terms of traction and accessibility. So accompanied by its cousin, Rixen’s “little bro”, this revolution enabled the invasion of cable parks and helped spread the practice of wakeboarding around the globe. The second big revolution, which in our eyes could be one of the main factors in the evolution of what our sport is becoming: The invention of Flex boards. This technology, introduced by Pat Panakos and put forward by brands such as Slingshot and Ronix, allowed the sensation of wake-boarding to become a lot closer to the sensation of snowboarding. Some of us have even somewhat abandoned the ski slopes and snow parks to go wakeboarding, even in winter. So maybe its just a new trend, maybe wakeboarding is not all about shredding metal rails and pipe, its also about air tricks…But this new technology opened the door to new possibilities and seduced even more people, men and women included. The third major factor in the evolution of this sport is the WWA (World Wakeboard association) pro circuit. The IWSF (International Water Ski Federation) also has its competitions and its world tour, but it is nothing in comparison to what the WWA has put in place since 1989. Competitor or not, the importance of a pro circuit in our sport directly influences on the development of the wakeboard industry. Competitions create stars, fans and pro models…They boost our economy and push brands to invest and create more efficient products every year.So what holds the future of wakeboarding? How are the market trends going to evolve? What is our sport going to become? Is jibbing going to replace air tricks? Are we going to see 100% Flex boards in the production lines? Will we see wakeboarding at the Olympic Games? Even if we have a few tips, like new technologies in bindings such as Hyperlite’s “AJ Boot”, electrical boats made by Epic, a growing number of companies that build obstacles (EXO, Rixen, Unit…) and the apparition of geniuses such as Daniel Grant, it is very hard to answer all these questions with certainty. One thing is for sure, we are entering an era where wakeboarding has all the weapons necessary to conquer the masses. Our sport has some really good days ahead of it, and its only the beginning. Whatever path it may take, we can all be proud of ourselves for bringing wakeboarding to where it is today. A strong, unique, and independent sport.

For a long time now, I’ve been fascinated by the ocean and its fauna, but also by sailors. The precursors of the tattoo scene who were destined to ink their skin with good and bad memories and in a way testify their total engagement towards the ocean. I wan-ted to pay tribute to them by working with wood, tanned leather and more traditional drawings, but also by mixing it up with my own touch of skateboarding and wakeskating culture. I repro-duce their memories on diverse supports with the help of a wood burning tool. I have been using the technique of pyrography since I was a kid, but I also use the ancient technique of paper pressing with my own series of graphs that I print on weathered paper.

Hey Jean, where are you from?Hey! I come from Toulouse, one of the most beautiful cities in the south west of France. It’s a great place where a whole lot of cable parks are being developed, and where the sun shine and the wakeboar-ding competitions are present all year round.-What does your work consist of?Since my childhood I’ve been fascinated by this strange technique called pyrography, which allows me to engrave different supports with a hot iron tip. So I started out working on wooden boards that quickly transformed into skateboards and other original objects. The tanned leather came about a bit later after having worked a small job in a tattoo parlor in the center of Toulouse. I came up with the idea of pyrography on animal skin as an alternative to tattooing. When did you start drawing?I’ve been drawing since I was a kid, but my drawing style comes from my fascination for ancient engravings, tattoos and those infa-mous sailors.Who are the artists that inspire you in general? When it comes to tattoos, Sailor Jerry and the excellent Thomas Hoo-per. For the illustrators, Luke Jinks, hydro74 and many more. I’d like to give you some more names but there are just too many! You worked on a lot of projects in 2011, tell us a bit about them?2011 was the year of revelations as 2010 was a rough year for me. I suffered from a pretty bad wakeskating injury and remained off work for a whole year, which gave me plenty of time to work on my drawings and pyrography. The idea to expose my art work came from some close friends who watched me work and convinced me to share my art. I met some people that have an art gallery called “Pro-vidence Guéthary” in a small village that I hold close to my heart on the Basque Coast, and they opened their doors to me so that I could expose my creations. I got to know Bénitu, a skater and “child of the country” who immortalized “Michelle” on the famous Guéthary bowl (RIP). You can see the video “Skate de marin” on vimeo. Some bud-dies from my team, who have a small editing company called “Dope fresh n’ classique”, asked me to do a video in my workshop entitled “DFC-Wednesday freshness X Jean Rockeadi” and you can also find an overview of my body of work on the website “Limited art gallery”, a virtual art gallery created by Barcares rider Yanis Costa. What are your future projects?I’m moving to my beloved Basque Coast next spring to continue my adventure and I’m working on a limited edition of printed T-shirts. I’ve got a few idea based on prints, furniture and a limited edition of engraved skateboards, and I’m hoping to expose my work on the Bas-que Coast again. I’ve got so many ideas in my head but “Sshhhhhhh”. You can check out my details and all my work on my facebook page “Jean Rockeadi” or on my blog: jeanrockeadi.blogspot.comSo when are we going to see a printed or engraved wakeskate?(Laughs) Soon, whenever a brand will provide me with a prototype board that I can put my hot iron tip to.

Hey daniel can you tell us how old you are and where are you from?I am 18 years old and from Orlando, Florida, USA.How long have you been wakeboarding? For 11 years.Who are your current sponsors & what board/binding setup do you use? CWB Wakeboards, Mastercraft Boats, Jet Pilot, Rockstar Energy Drink, Per-formance Ski & Surf. I ride the CWB db9 with the Answer bindings. How would you describe your riding style? I like to think of my riding style as being pretty smooth. At the moment, there are more and more flexboards, cable, system 2.0, rail riders... What do you think about the evolution of wakeboard? I enjoy riding boat the most, but as long as people are still out there wake-boarding and making the sport grow then I think it is great. What other sports have influenced you and your riding? My parents were professional water skiers at Cypress Gardens, so that has made me want to do well with wakeboarding.Where is your favorite place to ride?My favorite place to ride is out at The Projects in Orlando, Florida.Do you have a regular crew of friends that you ride with?Lately I have been riding with Jonathan Khani, Joey Buss, Paulie Koch, Ni-cola Butler, and Gunnar Shuler. When you go out for a session, do you spend more time working on the tricks that you will do during a comp, or do you try a lot of new stuff? It try to do a good combination of both, some sets I will focus on being consistant, and other sets I try to focus on trying new things.Do you have a favorite trick to do right now?My favorite trick right now is probably a blind judge. What new tricks are you working on at the moment?Im working on Crow 5s right now, and trying to do wake to wake hs 9s consistant.Which tricks have the worst crashes? For me, Crow 5s hurt the most. What do you think makes a trick look good? Grabbing a trick as long as possible is definitely the most important part. What motivates or influences you the most to learn new tricks?Other riders that are better than me are most inspiring. Stepping up to pro this year means that I would have to learn new tricks to keep up!Do you have a favorite rider that you look up to for inspiration?I look up to all the top riders, they are all extremely inspiring. Watching Har-ley Clifford ride always makes me want to at least try something new. What gives you the drive to ride when you wake up every morning?Looking out at a glassy lake and an XStar to ride behind!Has wakeboarding taken you to any places you never thought you would go to?I have gotten to travel to Asia, the Middle East, Europe and a lot of other pla-ces. Im also going out to Australia soon. I probably would have never made it to these places if it weren’t for wakeboarding. What are your goals for the upcoming 2012 season? I hope to finish in the top 5 on the PWT.Do you have any other travel plans this year that you are looking forward to? Im going to Australia in March and all around the US for the PWT. Hopefully I will make it out to some other cool places too. What’s the stupidest thing you have done this week and what’s the smar-test?Played Call of Duty until 4am one night... The smartest thing was going to sleep early the next day.As of right now, what are your first five songs you listen to when you put on your headphones?Dancin in the moonlight, Baby, Baby (J-Biebs), love you like a love song (se-lena gomez), Fruit Booter (Jonathan Khani, Harley Clifford, Ashe Watson), and Dancin in the Moonlight. What question were you hoping we’d ask you, but we didn’t, and what is the answer? If I have 11 ice cubes, and you have 10 apples, how many pancakes will fit on the roof?... Purple, because aliens don’t wear hats.If you could give one piece of advice to little rippers out there that want to make it to the Pros, what would it be?Just keep on trying hard! It takes a long time but you can’t give up.Would you like to thank anyone for being where you are today?I would definitely like to thank my dad, he has helped me every step of the way and Jet Pilot and Performance Ski and Surf, they have been with me since I started wakeboarding!

Dylan, where exactly do you come from? Born and raised in Oxbow Saskatchewan Canada

Can you give us a background check? My full name is Dylan Scott Miller, raised in a small town of 1,500 people in Saskatchewan Canada. Took part in all sorts of sports growing up as a kid, mostly hockey, golf and snowboarding. U.S. Border guards hate me, my mother loves me. I saved up money and moved to Florida right out of high school and have been doing the same thing every winter for the last 6 years. It’s finally starting to pay off and I couldn’t be happier!

What’s you set up?Slingshot Recoil 142 with size 10 R.A.D. boots till the death of me!

When did you first step into a pair of bindings?Summer 1999 was the first time on a wakeboard for me.

Do you still remember that first ride?I just remember being really pissed off cause I didn’t get up my first try, Some other kids I knew told me they got up there first try so I figured I would too. So when I didn’t, I wasn’t a happy camper.

Do you have any home riding spots back in Ca-nada?Ya there’s a lake like 5 minutes from my house, it’s called the Alameda Dam. I spent everyday in the summer out there as a kid.

You came to france last year, how was tour trip? France was a lot of fun can’t wait to go back again this year. The contest was sick! We got to ride so much through out the week, it was such a fun set up, couldn’t get enough of it! The people are great too, The girls are amazing, can’t wait to meet some more french la-dies! The food was also really good... especially the wine!

Do you have any plans for the fresh 2012 season? You bet... Number one on the list is to finish filming for Slingshot’s movie «Lipsmack» which is getting released in a few months. I can’t wait to see the fi-nished product! I’m also going to be spending lots of time in Eu-rope this year at all the rail events, other than that just filming, shooting photos and riding everyday in between.

Did you have a crew that you rode with back in Canada? When I’m back at home I get out in the boat with my dad as much as possible, he really like riding too so that’s pretty dope! Other than that I ride with Adam Burwell, Craig and Mark McMorris, and Nick Mayer when I’m in Sask. I also spend some time on the west coast in B.C. every summer where I ride with Dustin O’Ferrall, Brad Buskas and Matt Bibby. It’s pretty sick to have different people to ride with all over!

You aren’t just a boat shredder either. You are one hell of a rail slayer. Do you have a favorite spot to hit rails?I spend a lot of time at OWC in Orlando which is a lot of fun but I wouldn’t call those rails... More like boxes. The stuff I like doing the most is finding natu-ral jibs, or at least partially natural. I also like trying to come with new ideas and build them my self.

What is your favorite boat trick and rail trick ri-ght now?Boat trick I’d have to say... either a toe side stalefish 360 or Mute Cab 5. My favourite rail trick changes lots but right now anything that involves a switch nose press has been tons of fun.

Have you ever been anywhere you never thought you would be if it wasn’t for wakeboarding? The Philippines and South Korea are probably the most random I guess. Those are 2 two places that I didn’t think I would ever get to see.

Do you enjoy doing any other sports? If I wasn’t wakeboarding I’d be trying to golf eve-ryday. A lot of people don’t expect that out of me but I’ve been golfing since I was like 5 years old. Other than that I try and skate mini ramps as much as I can, I also spend lots of time cruising around on a bike, and I’m no stranger to a ping pong table either.

In order, list your top five «most played» songs from your iPod. 1. «The Time We Lost Our Way» By the Thievory Corporation2. «Lyndale Avenue User’s Manuel» By Atmosphere3. «Memory Lane» By Nas4. «Shallow Days» By Blackalicious 5. «Get Down» By Nas

Where do you see wakeboarding in the next 10 years?Cable parks are going to be taking over, 2 tower sys-tems are going to be all over the place! Boat riding is still got tons of progression left as well, I really hope the sports grows to be as main stream as snow and skateboarding.

Any words of advice for the kids out there that want to be just like Dylan Miller?Have fun doing what your doing, I spent to much time and money trying to fit into the mainstream of wakeboarding, when all I needed to do was start doing things my way. That’s when everything started to work out.

How about some thank-yous?My parents, Raynald and Unleased for making this happen. Dustin O’Ferrall for taking the photos, The Logosz Brothers, Wade Wagley, Jeff McKee and Patrick Wieland at Slingshot Wake. Max Henault at O’Neill Canada. Alex Forbes and Bobby Gascon @ Vans Canada. Karl Fuhre, Mike Simpson and Jono Boysen @ I.S. Eyewear. And anyone else who has taken the time to help me out in the past. Thanks eve-ryone… Peace!

Let’s start out easy. How old are you and where are you from?I’m 18 years old and from Hamburg, Germany.

How did you get started in Wakeboarding? Who introduced you to the sport of wakeboar-ding?One day my dad took me to the cablepark. I’ve watched these kids for a long time jumping around and was totally stocked. I knew I needed to learn it. After my first lap I totally felt in love with the sport. I still can remember that day. Just great.

How was the wwa worlds wakepark in Abu Dabhi ?The WWA wake Park worlds went awesome. Abu Dhabi is a beautiful city with a lot of things do to beside of wakeboarding. It doesn’t get boring over there which is cool for a big event like that. The cable park is pretty small but still good to ride. The obstacles were fine and the whole weekend was just siiiick. I guess all of us just had a great time.

Do you think that it’s easier or tougher to get involved in wakeboarding being from ger-many? Where is your local spot to ride?I ride in Hamburg and Pinneberg. It takes me 30 min to go by car to reach one of the Cables. Hamburg is bigger and has a lot more Obstacles than Pinneberg. But Pinneberg is super good for Air Tricks. It’s super cool to have the oppotunity to ride two amazing Cableparks.

What is the wakeboard scene like in that area? The wakeboard scene around these two cables is big. We have so many great riders out there. Wakeskaters and wa-keboarders who always push it hard. We have all kind of ages shreding.

What’s your current set up that you rock on the wa-ter?I ride the Witness Grind L.d.t «Freddy von Osten Board» with the «Ultra Bindings». Billabong havana Boardshort and Billabong Jacket. Thats all I need for a set.

Do you enjoy riding cable as much as riding boat?I don’t ride that much boat. As you know the petrol price is so expensive and it takes more time to get on the water. Whaterever boat riding is sick but i prefer Cable riding.

Do you usually ride with a group of buddies? The wakeboard scene in Hamburg is pretty big. We have a lot of great riders. I use to ride with Rene, Tom, Sam and Baggi. We are hanging out around and trying new stuff.

Do you have any other sports besides your wakeboar-ding? I pretty much like all kind of sports. I play soccer and ta-bletennis during the winter time. Exspecially soccer, cuz it is great for the team play.

What is your favorite trick to do right now?I have a few favourites tricks but a switch crommobe nose-grab over the Kicker is one of my favourites.

What motivates or influences you the most to learn new tricks?I like to do new tricks because its is an amazing feeling to get a new one. It keeps my trying new stuff everyday.

What’s the hardest crash you have ever taken on a wakeboard? It was probably from a ts double s-bend. I did a couple Ts sbend blinds and it worked always well. I thought about a double time and 5 min later, I tried one. And then, I got the worst front age and i just felt so Bad. I had an Headache during the next 2 days!

Who are your favorite riders to watch and why?I like to watch many rides. It always gives me new inspirations to do new tricks. Doesn’t matter who rides.

Do you have any travel plans this winter that you are looking forward to? Yeah! I would like to go to Thai Wake Park again. This Place is so amazing.

Do you plan to compet at famous comp like the Sooruz Wake’n’Country, FISE in France or Wake the Line in Germany?I haven’t been to wake the line last year but I will try to compet next year. Fise in montepellier is hammer too. The set up is just sick. Wake’n’country for suuuuuure! Let’s do it!

Has wakeboarding taken you to any places you never thought you would go?Are there any spots that you are hoping to ride at one day? Wakeboarding has taken me to many places all over the world and I’m so thanksful for that. It’s just crazy. Travelling all year long. One day I would like to ride on the top of a huge building or a stuff like that. Something crazy.

What would your ideal day be like?My ideal day is really simple. I wake up, i have a breakfast, i take a shower, go to the cable and wakebord all day long, have dinner and then... let’s party all night long!

As of right now, what are your first five songs you listen to when you put on your headphones?1.Mack Miller Knock Knock2.Will Smith Getting Jiggy with it 3.Sleighe Bells Kids 4.Flo Rida Good Feeling 5.1200 Techniques Eye of the Storm

Do you have any words of advice to those that are starting out?Not really... Well, just get on your board and try to wakeboard, You will see, it’s really easy. You have to try by yourself... You will get it, i’m sure!

Who would you like to thank?I would like to thank all my sponsors of course. Billabong, Red Bull energy drink, Liquid Force wakeboards. But also my homespot here in germany, Cablepark Hamburg/Pinneberg.And of course Unleashed Wake magazine for the interview!

So here we are, 2012, I can’t believe how time flies. This will be my 17th summer with Wakeboarding and it’s just unbelievable what happened in all these years and how this time has changed me. I had my first ride on a wakeboard back in 1995 at the Cablepark Kiefersfelden near my home. Since I was snowboarding for many years already I was super stoked to find the perfect summer compensation. I got addicted right away and I just wanted to ride every day. Wakeboarding back then was only known in the US behind the boat and it seemed like everything happened pretty far away from Germany. And now look at it today how spread out the com-munity is and how the cable and boat scene have grown together! I really enjoyed the last 13 years of being a wakeboard pro and to see the Evolution of the sport. Amazing stuff happened and I got to travel and experience the world so different than you would on normal holidays. Up´s like 3 times World Champion, World Athlete of the Year, my own Promodel Wakeboard and all the new friends around the world! But also downs like broken legs, torn muscles and hard defeats. All of this made me having a great time and enjoying life to the fullest.

The Cable community is growing faster than ever, especially in the US where Boat riding was pretty much the only thing for so many years. But now, new Cableparks packed with obstacles popping up everywhere. For many years the Boat community did not recognize the “Cableguys” but it was just a matter of time till the Cable community would grow bigger and get more attention. New inventions like Winch and 2.0 Cables opened new ways, new spots and new possibilities. Also the environmental aspect of a cable and the global warming problem paved the way for the non-polluting cable systems. I think Wakeboarding has great potential and we can step it up more. With all the new Competition- and Event formats that came up the last years we have attracted the media and a huge audience to our sport. You just need to take a look at the cables during summertime they are super packed with kids that just wanna go Wakeboarding.

In 2011 I moved 1000km from the very south of Germany to the very north to follow up a new opportunity I got offered from a friend I meet along the way. He offered me to manage the Wakeboarding and Skateboarding part of Europe’s biggest Extreme-Sports Event series, the Telekom Extreme Playgrounds. At first it was kind of weird to move that far away into the big city life of Hamburg and do a “real” 9to5 job. But now after one year of doing this job I really feel like I can change stuff and make new things happen and be a part of the evolution of the sport in a new and different way for me. Now being more behind the scenes brings me a lot deeper into Wakeboarding then ever before. It also gives me the opportunity to bring all the experience I got from contests and events over the past 15 years back into Wakeboarding and this awesome event series.

The second time I broke my leg it took me almost 2 years to get back into shape and being able to ride again without any pain. Also I’ve torn half of my right biceps at CWC in 2009 this was a really nasty experience! I stopped counting all the small injuries... So I had to step back a bit the last years and also my body is pretty wracked from so many years of hardcore Wakeboarding. But I feel much stronger again and also my technique improved. So I’m really looking forward to just go out and ride!!

I´ve been riding for Billabong since the beginning of my pro career in 1999 and I was pretty much the first Wakeboar-der that was wearing Billabong cloths and Boardshorts. But over the years the company got more and more involved in the Wake-scene in Europe and in the US. The big hype about Wakeboarding was going through the roof and so did the Team around Billabong. Today this Team is one of the best in the wake world with riders like Fredy von Osten, Shawn Watson, Raph Derome, Danny Harf or Brian Grubb.

In early 2011 I had a chat with the Marketing Manager of Billabong and he offered me to coordinate the European Billabong Wake Team. I was super stoked about this and I’m super happy to bring the experience from all these years in the Wakeszene into this Job to help Billabong and the Team to step it up to the next level. There is a lot happening so keep your eyes and ears open!

2012 is going to be an awesome year! I have a lot of projects going on and I’m really amped to get things rolling. Last summer I could not find as much time to ride as I needed so the first few months of 2012 I´m going to Thai Wake Park to get back into shape, hang out with all the people and prepare for some contests as well. I feel I want to step up my riding again, all the kids got pretty good lately. Last winter I spent about 6 weeks at TWP and I really enjoyed hanging out with the awesome crew, you can tell they are Wakeboarders and they love to ride. Also some rad Photo and Video shootings are on the list. I just released a fully reworked website for 2012 and you can find the latest news, photos and videos on: www.Bern-hard-Hinterberger.com

Thanks to all my Sponsors that are with me for so many years! Billabong, Gloryfy and Reef are supporting me for a long time and I’m super grateful for the awesome rela-tionship that has developed over the years. After New Schnitzel died I thought I have to quit Wakeboarding but a new opportunity opened up and I’m stoked I can be a part of Ronix and add some cable-spice to the legendary team. And I want to thank all the new and smaller companies that support me. Pro-Tec helmets just started to take care of my head and so does Skullcandy for a long time. And don’t for-get the gloves, thanks Troyan.

Well of course I miss the good old days of Wakeboarding. But you can’t stop the Evolution! Wakeboarding has come such a long way and I think we are going the right direction. Back in the day when we came together for the German Tour or European Tour it was just a blast. We all slept in tents and cars directly on site next to the Cable. Friday ni-ght we always had the big party and got totally wasted till late nights. Saturday morning 8am was time to compete and most of us just had just 2 hours sleep. I miss the good old days ;) Everything was more in that easy family way with just hanging out together and enjoy the weekend. But it also was the goal to build something great with this brand new Trend-sport and being a part of it. And if you look back these events where organized pretty well already. Today it’s more like we go to the contests stay in five star hotels and expect a massive event with lots of spectators and huge me-dia presence. But fun and a great weekend with our friends from around the world is still what we want today when we go to contests and events. So the core message is still the same, just the wrapping changes over the years. And we need the changes to move forward and make our sport profitable for the Athletes so they can travel promote the sport and show the world how awesome Wakeboarding is. The new generation of riders really stepped it up and I’m proud to see how the boys became pro´s. And it’s awesome to see that the next generation is already on the water and fighting their way up.The X-Games expand to Europe and around the world. And this could be a chance for Wakeboarding to be back in the biggest extreme sports event series on the globe. Wakeboar-ding was already a part of the X-Games quite a while ago but there is a new chance now with a Cable or System 2.0 to be back. This would be a great push for our sport! Also the Olympic Committee added Wakeboarding to the list of new Sports for the Games in 2020. This could also be a big push for the sport but it will also bring some major changes and could move the sport in the wrong direction. Snowboar-ding is the best example for that. Other sports like baseball, squash, karate, rollersports or rock climbing want this one spot in 2020. So it will be a hard race for Wakeboarding to get into this. In my eyes X-Games is the better choice for Wakeboarding!Getting injured is super tough. It’s the worst thing for a Pro Rider to stop what he loves doing and being grounded at home. If you fuck up your knee or shoulder or you brake a bone is the worst case scenario for a Pro Rider and brings a whole lot of trouble with it. A lot of rehab needs to be done to get back in shape and of course the other riders are not sleeping, they still progress while you are banned to the couch. It is a process that changes you and your mind. It makes you appreciate the body you have and how good it is to just get up and walk to the cable and ride. I had to go through rehab many times already. I broke my left leg once in 2003 and again, but way worse, in 2007.

Hey Quinn, how are you my friend? I’m just skippity doo dah buddy. Hope you are too!

Can you tell us how old are you and where are you from?I just turned 24, and am originally from Minnesota but I grew up and currently reside in Hotlanta, Georgia.

How long have you been wakeboarding?A long long time... I think I first started riding when I was in the 4th or 5th grade.

Were you into any other sports at that time?I actually played football (American style) for 12 years, so wakeboarding was always just something I did in the summers when we would go up to our family cabin in Minnesota and on weekends in the off-seasons. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school that I realized that college was gonna suck if I had to dedicate all of my time to football and school, so that’s when I decided that I would shift my focus to wakeboarding.

What board are you riding these days?Right now the 141 Slingshot Reflex is my bread n butter, but the Slingshot line is so dope this season that I feel comfortable strapping into any of the boards in their line-up.

Where is your favorite place to ride? The Gravity Research Compound in Eastman, Georgia.

Do you have a regular crew of friends you ride with?I have a few different crews of friends I ride with these days. When I was in college we had a pretty consistent crew of riders but over the years as they all got more serious about school, I got more serious about riding and became a bit of a lone wolf when it came to getting my shred on. I would drive everywhere and anywhere to get a pull. I met the Shred Ready crew over the course of my travels as well as some rad dudes in Florida, so now days I’m lucky enough to shred with a different crew of dope riders wherever my riding takes me.

Do you have a favorite trick to do right now? That’s a tough one, it changes every time I ride. Pretty much any rail variations that are so technical that it is next to impossible to name the trick. Lately I’ve been having fun doing double grabbed stuff too, toeside tailgrab to handlepass melan backside 360 is probably my favorite at the moment.

What is your least favorite trick in wakeboarding?Twirlybirdies off of kickers... woof!

What new tricks are you working on at the moment?I’ve been working on beefing up my kicker game a lot lately. I try not to focus on one trick at a time so I can keep things fun.

Which tricks have the worst crashes? Any trick that starts with you clipping your board and ends with you tacoing the whole rail on your ribcage.

What do you think makes a trick look good?Power and control mixed with serious meat and potatoes pres-ses and/or grabs held for eternity!

What motivates or influences you the most to learn new tricks? That rush you get the first time you stomp a new trick. It mo-tivates me to constantly chase that feeling and try new things every time I’m on the water.

Do you have a favorite rider that you look at for inspira-tion?It’s hard to narrow it down to just one. I am fortunate enough to get to ride with all of my favorite riders and every one of them inspires me in different ways. All the boys from the PJ’s and the Hood rip so hard and are so sick and stylish that when we ride together it’s easy to just feed off each other’s riding. Wes Bearden, his son Crosse, and the rest of the GRC crew have such a fresh take and perspective on riding that it’s impossible not to be inspired by them when they ride. The list goes on and on I try to find inspiration in everyone no matter what level of riding they’re at.

What gives you the drive to ride when you wake up every morning?Just remembering how lucky I am that I’m in the position to live my dream.

Has wakeboarding taken you to any places you never thou-ght you would go?It definitely has, this summer was like a dream come true, I made 2 Texas trips, a trip traveling and competing all over France, and a trip to Wales for Wakestock UK. I never thought I would ever get to see those places because of wakeboarding... besides Texas I figured I’d probably wind up out there, some-how, sooner or later.

What are your goals for the upcoming 2012 season? To just keep pushing in any way I can, to do a good bit of contests, to infiltrate the Wake The Line rider list, and to have my own full-sized cable park... Pretty attainable goals right!? The list will continue grow every day.

Do you have any other travel plans this year that you are looking forward to? Wake’n’Country ? FISE ?I don’t have a whole lot of travel plans made yet but I defini-tely want to make it back out to France for as many of those contests as I can. It was so much fun getting to compete in all of those contests and meet all of the great people involved this past season.

Did you enjoy tour trip in France last year ?It was incredible! I met some amazing new friends and I got to tour the country while riding with all of the sickest riders on the planet every day... there isn’t a whole lot of room for disap-pointment in that schedule.

What’s the stupidest thing you have done this week and what’s the smartest?Stupidest thing, probably rallying through the back trails at GRC in my buddy’s Subaru. Smartest.... Rallying through the back trails at GRC in my buddy’s Subaru.

As of right now, what are your first five songs you listen to when you put on your headphones?Daddy Fat Sax- Big BoiHit Em Up- TupacFor Whom The Bell Tolls- MetallicaThe Fire- The RootsTighten Up- The Black Keys

What words of advice would you give to all those young bucks out there wanting to be like Quinn Silvernale?Just ride because its fun, focus on your own riding not others. Too many people would rather trash someone doing their own thing these days than working on their own riding... I’m not into that outlook haha.

Would you like to thank anyone for being where you are today?Without the support of my family I have no idea where I would be or what I would be doing today. I gotta thank the big man upstairs! Huge thanks to my Parents and sisters for that. Also the Bearden family and the rest of the GRC crew. All of my sponsors, Slingshot wakeboards, Shred Ready, STZ Canvassed Apparel, Cire Boardshorts, Rockwell Watches, Mountain Wake Park, and The Gravity Research Compound. Thank you all for doing everything that you do to help me develop and progress.

The cable in Duisburg, Germany, is coming up with some real news these days. Lukas Suess (21), one of germanys best wakeskaters and his brother Sebastian (22) are rebuilding the whole cable. The almost thirty year old cable was already torn down by them and some heavy machinery took over. Water got pumped out and 12.000 tons of sand are getting moved to redesign the lake. The new shape will have two cables, six towers each. Sebi, who works for Sesitec, came up with the perfect cablesetup and Luki always carried the idea of an all new park-concept. The result ist called The Bricks.

Luki and Sebi: «That name shows pretty well our idea of what the new fun park will be like. Our new Rails will be completely made of real concrete! We are building 7 new obstacles, all of them are concrete ones: 3 Flatrails, 2 Uprails, one Rooftop and one A-Frame with a step-down. All together they are built out of 117 L-shaped concrete blocks. The smallest has a height of 1,3m and the tallest 3,55m, the big ones are real heavy - 2,5 tons!. We will have to carry 110 tons of concrete to create the whole setup. But «The Bricks» is not only named like that just because of the concrete blocks, it also stands for clean and straight lines in the setup. We believe, that the future belongs to straight and clean shapes, Rainbows and Curves - that belongs to the 90s. We want to see the roots of Ska-teboarding, like already some of the modern snow parks do. The three Flatrails and the two Uprails will have the exact same shapes and they will be located left and right from the cable. So you can ride fine lines though the course, which will also increase the feel of streetstyle.»

There will still be lots of space to have some floating obstacles, which you can move to change the setup every once in a while. Four kickers, one incline, one pipe and a table, all made by UNIT, make shure that this will truly be a dreamspot. The plan is to open up «The Bricks“ at the end of march. So watch out for more news on: www.facebook.com/pages/the-Bricks/327794480576870

Writing an article about the photo

Shoot, shoot and re-shoot, you mi-
