OUTLINE Motivation – One should have interest in both wireless cameras, some

military interest, and online shopping.

Problem Statement – Small range battery operated RC ground vehicle capable of transmitting wireless video onto the computer.

Proposed Solution – Obtain an RC model tank, a wireless camera, and a motion sensor for extra security.

Conclusions – I learned a lot about wireless security. It worked, but I wanted to do more with it.

Actual systems – The U.S. Marine Corps has built and are testing a device similar in concept to mine but much more advanced.

MOTIVATION One should have an interest in the wireless cameras, and RC toys

and somewhat in the military. I found all my items on Amazon.com. My RC tank is a model of a

real M1A1 Abrams Tank.

4

MOTIVATION I planned to use an RC tank because it was more affordable,

but I wanted to use an RC helicopter. I wish I could have built the camera myself to save more money.

I have never worked with a wireless camera and wanted to learn how to use it effectively and for fun.

I also realized the tank would be even more useful by adding a wireless alarm for security purposes.

PROBLEM STATEMENT Most of humanity has the need for

personal ground surveillance and security. This system should protect people against trespassers and notify someone of an impending attack. It needs to be monitored it through a computer. This security system needs to protect people from both indoor and outdoor areas. A nonviolent solution is best, because it would be most appropriate for logical and liability reasons.

PROPOSED SOLUTION I first needed an RC vehicle. I first got one from a classmate. It worked

good I just needed more functions from it. I then looked online for more RC vehicles. Being a novice at electronics I just bought one off of Amazon.com. I also wanted to make my own, but It would have taken a lot of time.

I needed a wireless camera. Looked many days on Amazon.com until they were having a sell on one. Bought it for 30 when it was originally 90 dollars.

I finally needed more security to prevent someone from stealing it. I found a cheap, but good motion detector that would sound off at 105 decibels. I softened the noise to close to 10 decibels.

Page 7: Unmanned Surveillance Tank

7

The IR remote alarms or disarms the motion sensor. When the alarm is idle, the light is green. When the alarm is active, the light is red. It takes 30 seconds to arm the unit. After being activate it has a delay of 15 seconds before sounding.

The tank controller controls the tank and the wireless camera. The wireless camera is mounted on the turret on the left side. The motion sensor alarm is mounted on the back of the tank.

The camera records when the 9v battery is connected. The Avermedia TV tuner card records the incoming signal from the camera to my local hard drive.

RESULTS The final result is a battery operated ground tank capable of

wireless surveillance and sensing motion. Anyone can operate this tank efficiently with little or no training.

The total cost of this project was: Tank + Alarm + Camera 15.81 + 16.09 + 29.99= $61.89

CONCLUSIONS This project would be of more use for fun projects. It would be used for

more serious applications if the wireless camera battery could last 24 hours instead of 2. Spying is limited because it can function at only a little more than 100 feet.

If I had more money I would have bought an RC helicopter to show even better results of security and usefulness. The helicopter would have a higher security from being stolen or disabled compared to a ground vehicle. Also If I had more electronic experience I could do more with this project.

I have learned a lot about wireless technology and how to used it. I really want to develop my project further and buy a helicopter and a camera that can transmit up to 1000 feet.

ACTUAL SYSTEMS U.S. Military M1A1 Abrams Tank This tank is a model of an Abrams tank currently used in some militaries.

There are Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) right now being used in Iraq. There are two types: Autonomous & Tele-operated Autonomous= Works without human intervention more intelligent and can learn Tele-operated= Works with remote human intervention

FUTURE WORK Make a bigger 4 foot titanium model for the military.

Made of Kevlar and titanium armor. Upgrade the camera and motion detector for 1,000+ ft

range. Permanent attachment for camera and motion detector.
