Sound Engineering - Dead Man�’s Cell Phone

The design aesthetic of the show provided light ambience to this dark comedy - a continuous underscore to the action on

stage. The engineering challenge of this play was to create aural depth that extended from behind the audience to the stage,

and from under the audience all the way to the 30�’ grid. Using speakers mounted behind the audience seating, in the vom

under the seating, and from multiple points in front this depth was achieved. Sound was able to move 360° around the

audience and fully fill the performance space.

Midi SysEx from QLab was used to remotely start and stop a wireless cell phone, built to run off of an arduino processor that

allowed us to fully control this prop. Midi SysEx was also used to control wireless curtains and wireless neon dimming that

was built in to the scenic units.

Sound Engineering - Dark Play or Stories for Boys

The goal in engineering Dark Play or Stories for Boys was to translate the dark electronic aesthetic of the design into a reality. We wanted 360° coverage of the audience, and the ability to shake the room with the fully immersive electronic atmosphere of the show. The 8 loudspeaker configuration allowed us to keep quieter moments very subtle, intimate, and immersive, while the louder moments were able to fully fill the room. Midi show control was used to coordinate wireless microphones and lighting effects throughout the show.
