The UNU Alumni Association was

established in December 2007, mainly for the graduates of the UNU Capacity Development Course “Global Seminars”, which has been managed for 30 years by UNU Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. The association came to cover graduates from UNU’s other various capacity development courses; such as the UNU International Courses, the UNU Joint Graduate Courses, and the UNU Summer School which have been entirely implemented by the UNU Headquarters, and the UNU-IAS PhD Fellowship Programme which is by UNU-IAS in Yokohama. After that, the UNU Charter was amended in 2009 and the UNU-ISP Postgraduate Programme was established in September 2010 at the UNU Headquarters. Since then the association has included the postgraduates of the programme. Now the association consists of the postgraduates from UNU Postgraduate Programmes in Japan and the graduates from the short courses offered by UNU in Japan. These programmes and short courses are to make tremendous efforts to solve global issues from the various kinds of view and to deepen the mutual understanding. Over the past thirty years, they have produced more than 3,000 alumni, and they are spread out across the globe, active in UNU agencies, other international bodies, academia, and NGOs.

With the purposes of giving opportunities to

interact with the alumni each other and to obtain up-to-date information on UNU activities, this UNU Alumni Association was launched in December 14, 2007. It aims to promote continued interaction and exchange information among alumni even after they entered the workforce to solve global problems, and to contribute to the UNU’s activities by maintaining the ties to UNU. We hope that this alumni activity will enhance the UNU Course functions and enlarge the international human network, which is a very crucial matter from the view point of human resource development in international higher education.

This UNU Alumni Association is supported

by the members’ voluntary activities, and if you wish to become a member, you may register to do so at any time. The participation of graduates, who endorse its aim, is mostly welcome. Let us make the future of the UNU Alumni Association by enlarging the UNU-related Alumni network, and share in the joy with developments at UNU.

UNU 同窓会は、日本国・東京にある UNU 本部

が 30 年前から実施しているグローバルセミナーという人材

育成コースの修了生を中心に 2007 年 12 月 14 日に設立

され、UNU 本部の実施する国際講座や大学院共同講座、

鳥瞰的環境コース及び横浜にある国連大学高等教育研究

所（UNU-IAS）のフェローシップなど多様な人材育成コース

の修了生も参加するようになりました。その後、2009 年に国

連大学憲章が改正され 2010 年 9 月に東京の本部施設内

に大学院（ＵＮＵ-ＩＳＰ）が新設されると、大学院の在学生

および修了生も参加するようになり、現在では、日本国に

設置されるＵＮＵの大学院の在学生および修了生、日本

で実施されるＵＮＵの短期講座・セミナーの修了生をメンバ

ーとする同窓会構成となっております。国際社会における

さまざまなグローバルイシューを、参加者の様々な視点や

立場から議論し、相互認識や理解を深める大学院や短期

講座・セミナーは、今や約３,０００名の修了生を輩出し、そ

の多くが国連機関、その他の国際機関、学術界、国際

NGO団体などにおいて活躍しています。

本同窓会では、そうした同窓生相互の情報交流

の機会を提供し、UNU の最新の状況についてお知らせす

ることを任務にしていますが、その最大の特徴は、共に

UNU で学んだ同窓生たちがネットワークを形成し、情報交

換を行い、地球規模の諸問題の解決のための活動や研究

に活用するとともに、UNU との連携を深め、その活動に寄

与することにあります。こうした同窓会の交流は、知の交流

拠点とアカデミック・ネットワーク形成という高等教育研究機

関としての UNU がもつ役割を継続的に高めると同時に、

今日、さまざまなかたちで展開されるようになっている国際

高等教育の連携と人材の協働形成につながるものです。

同窓会は参加される皆さんの自発的な活動によ

って支えられており、登録は随時受け付けております。本

同窓会の趣旨に賛同される方の積極的なご参加をお待ち

しております。UNU を基盤とした同窓生のネットワークを広

げ、ご一緒に活動していきましょう。

1. Background

Since its establishment in 1973, United Nations University

(UNU) has undertaken UNU Capacity Development Courses to

tackle urgent problems of the international society, and to foster

practitioners and specialists, targeting world youth. Especially, the

courses provided in the UNU headquarters in Tokyo and the

United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-

IAS) in Yokohama have a long history.

Nevertheless, alumni had long been disconnected, had have few

chances to share important information, exchange their views, and

had not have any substantial access to information provided by

UNU until 2007 when former UNU Capacity Development Course

Alumni Association was successfully established.

Another epoch-making event was the revision of the UNU Charter

in 2009 that made UNU a degree-awarding institution with both

masters and doctoral courses. In this context, UNU established the

UNU Institute for Sustainability and Peace (UNU-ISP) at its

Headquarters in 2010.

UNU-IAS also established its post-graduate programme in 2011,

which made the former UNU Capacity Development Course

Alumni Association renamed as UNU Alumni Association. Alumni

of those post-graduate courses above can also be the members of

the Association.

2. Objectives

UNU Alumni Association, a loose organization for UNU alumni,

aims to contribute to UNU, by implementing the following

activities:

(1) share mutual information among alumni,

(2) make alumni and UNU stay connected, and

(3) contribute to alumni’s future activities.

3. Qualification

The membership of UNU Alumni Association should be extended

primarily to those who have successfully completed the various

courses, including the post-graduate degree programmes offered by

UNU headquarters, UNU-IAS and UNU-ISP.

4. Organization

The Association should be a loose organization just like a circle of

like-minded people or a club. Accordingly, detailed rules and

regulations will not be provided for the time being.

5. Representatives and Secretary-General

The Association will have its Board of Directors as decision

makers, and one of the directors should be the executive called

“Chairman of the Board” who shall represent this Alumni

Association. Secretary-General should also be appointed.

6. Membership fee

Membership fee is basically free. However, participants of some

special events may occasionally be required to pay for the

expenses for the benefits they will receive.

7. Events and projects

The Association will have the following events and projects.

(1) General alumni meeting(s) or alumni get-together event(s)

(2) Small group meeting(s) to share common interests and

information.

(3) Dissemination of information about activities of UNU and etc.

(4) Others.

8. Secretariat

The Japan Foundation for the United Nations University

(jfUNU) will be the Secretariat of the Association and the office

of the Association will thus be located in the above foundation.

１．背景

国連大学（以下、「UNU」という。）は、1973年

の設立以来、国際社会が直面する緊急課題の解決のた

めに研究者や専門実践家の養成を目的に、世界の若い

人々を対象に各種の能力育成コースを実施してきた。

特に、東京にある UNU本部及び横浜にある国連大学

高等研究所（UNU-IAS）における人材育成コースは長

い実績を持つ。

しかし、修了生たちには、その後における情報交流の

機会や国連大学の状況についての情報入手の機会がき

わめて少なかったため、多くの修了生から同窓会の創

立を求める声が上がり、2007年にこれらの修了生を中

心に同窓会が創立された。

その後、国連大学憲章が 2009年に改正され、国連大学

は、修士・博士の授与機能を有することになり、2010

年に UNU本部（東京）に国連大学大学院サステイナ

ビリティと平和研究科（UNU-ISP）が設置された。

2011年には、国連大学高等研究所（UNU-IAS）も、

大学院プログラムを開始した。これにより 2011年から

は大学院修了生も含む同窓会へと発展し、名称を UNU

Alumni Associationとした。

２．目的

UNU同窓生による緩やかな同好組織として「UNU

Alumni Association」（以下、「同窓会」という。）を

組織し、以下の活動を通して国連大学の発展に寄与する。

（１）同窓生相互の情報交流をはかり、

（２）国連大学関連諸活動との適度な交流をもち、

（３）同窓生のその後の活動に資する。

３．参加資格

主として、UNU本部、UNU-IAS、UNU-ISPが実

施する大学院および人材育成コースの修了生とする

４．組織

同窓会は、同窓生による緩やかな同好会組織とし、

当分の間、組織規則などは設けない。

５．代表幹事及び事務局長

連絡上の責任者として幹事数名を置き、その内の 1

名を代表幹事とし、この同窓会を代表するものとす

る。また、１名を事務局長とする。

６．会費

会費については、徴収しないものとする。但し、特

別な事業等の参加費は別途徴収することができる。

７．事業

1) 同窓会の開催

2) 同窓生相互の情報交換機会の提供

3) UNU等の活動についての情報提供

4) その他

８．事務局

同窓会の事務局事務は公益財団法人国連大学協力会があ

たる。事務所は同法人内に置く。
