Unveil Your Values
Double Down On Your Unique
Excellence
Your values are what you believe matter most in life. While we each have a unique
set of them, some common values are love, success, friendship, intelligence, and
respect.
When you know your values, choices get easier, and your next steps become clear.
Successful people live by their values in order to find and connect with their
purpose, creating a deep sense of satisfaction. In short, creating a life where you feel integrated and satisfied is possible when you know and use your values on a
daily basis.
When we use our values to make decisions, we make a deliberate choice to focus on
what is important to us.
Combine your values with your personal strengths, and you’ve got a clear roadmap to confidence and clarity in your daily life!
So here we go:Let’s determine your core values.
Abundance Family SecurityAcceptance Friendships ServiceAccountability Flexibility SpiritualityAchievement Freedom StabilityAdvancement Fun PeaceAdventure Generosity PerfectionAdvocacy Grace PlayfulnessAmbition Gratitude PopularityAppreciation Growth PowerAttractiveness Flexibility PreparednessAutonomy Happiness ProactivityBalance Health ProfessionalismBeing the Best Honesty PunctualityBenevolence Humility RecognitionBoldness Humor RelationshipsBrilliance Inclusiveness ReliabilityCalmness Independence ResilienceCaring Individuality ResourcefulnessChallenge Innovation ResponsibilityCharity Inspiration ResponsivenessCheerfulness Intelligence SecurityCleverness Intuition Self-ControlCommunity Joy SelflessnessCommitment Kindness SimplicityCompassion Knowledge StabilityCooperation Leadership SuccessCollaboration Learning TeamworkConsistency Love ThankfulnessContribution Loyalty ThoughtfulnessCreativity Making a Difference TraditionalismCredibility Mindfulness TrustworthinessCuriosity Motivation UnderstandingDaring Optimism UniquenessDedication Open-Mindedness UsefulnessDependability Originality VersatilityDiversity Passion VisionEmpathy Performance VulnerabilityEncouragement Personal Development WarmthEnthusiasm Professionalism WealthEthics Quality Well-BeingExcellence Recognition WisdomExpressiveness Risk-Taking ZealFairness Safety
Part One:Choose your core values. Circle or write down every core value from this list that resonates with you. Don’t overthink your choices. As you read through the list, simply pick the words that feel like a core value to you personally. If you think of a value you possess that is not on the list, add it to your list!
Part Two:
Part Three:
Group all of the similar values together from the ones you just selected. Group them in a way that makes sense to you in a maximum of five groupings. If you have more than five groupings, delete those that feel least important. For example:
Group 1: Abundance, Growth, Wealth, Security, Freedom, Independence, Success
Group 2: Acceptance, Compassion, Inclusiveness, Kindness, Love, Relationships
Group 3: Appreciation, Encouragement, Thankfulness, Thoughtfulness, Mindfulness
Group 4: Balance, Health, Spirituality, Well-being, Personal Development
Group 5: Cheerfulness, Fun, Happiness, Humor, Inspiration, Joy, Optimism, Playfulness
Select one value word within each group that you feel best represents the entire group. Again, don’t overthink. There’s no right or wrong way to do this. You’re just defining words that are right for you. As an example, I’ve selected a word in bold below:
Group 1: Abundance, Growth, Wealth, Security, Freedom, Independence, Success
Group 2: Acceptance, Compassion, Inclusiveness, Kindness, Love, Relationships
Group 3: Appreciation, Encouragement, Thankfulness, Thoughtfulness, Mindfulness
Group 4: Balance, Health, Spirituality, Well-being, Personal Development
Group 5: Cheerfulness, Fun, Happiness, Humor, Inspiration, Joy, Optimism, Playfulness
You’ve successfully unveiled your five core values! You may be thinking, “OK Alex, now what?”
When you know your core values you’re one step on the path to an authentic life. Learning to apply them daily is a major
component of happiness and success.
Next, I share three ways you can use your values consistently…
3 Ways To Use Your Values Every Day1. Look at them daily: Type them into your calendar and set a reminder so they
pop up every morning or lunchtime, make them your screen saver, phone home screen, write them on a hot pink post-it note and put them in your car, or write them in red lipstick on your bathroom mirror. The more you see them, the more you’ll live them.
2. Talk them up with people you trust: Share your excitement of knowing your values with a dear friend or family member. Heck, give them the link to this ebook so they can unveil their values! In discussions with my husband, we’vediscovered we share the value of Authenticity, which has become an important topic with our son as he becomes a teenager. The more honest and important the conversation, the more your values will easily connect with your soul.
3. Apply them to make choices for your day: Core values are a great filter to help you master your time! When I look at my open projects, meetings, and daily tasks, I use my values to help me decide whether or not they’re a good use of my life’s energy. When more of your time is used for things that you truly value, you’ll feel at ease, on purpose, and truly in charge of your life.
