CESC reaches out to consumers at their own localities
A s part of CESC’s ongoing endeavour to
reach out to consumers, the company’s
Customer Relations Department has started
organising different meets at the consumers’
own localities, through Residential Housing
Societies or local clubs. ‘Meet CESC at Your
Locality’ is an interactive experience where
consumers can personally talk to different
members of the CESC Management. These
meets are also important platforms for CESC to
inform consumers about its services and
generate awareness regarding the new
customer-centric initiatives, especially the
e-services. Suggestions from the consumers
received as feedback in these meets are
subsequently implemented to further improve
customer service. A number of such meets have
been organised in various parts of Kolkata, since
the beginning of the calendar year.
One such meet was organised at the Residential
Complex of South City Apartments on 9th
February 2016. Present at the Consumer Meet
were, Mr Avijit Ghosh, Vice President

General Manager (Customer Relations), Mr
Abhijoy Sarkar,

Pre-paid Meters and their advantages. A

Every Small Cog in the wheel plays an important role
On 4th February 2016 I went rowing as usual in the Lakes with my partner on a double scull boat.
It was a beautiful morning, foggy and cool – we felt we were in Alaska.
After rowing for about 100m, we were not able to BALANCE as the boat started tilting. As we
rowed, it tilted more – soon we were afraid of capsizing and falling into the water. We rowed every
morning, but never encountered a problem like this - something was dragging us down and our
arms were aching. It was very strange!
We headed back to the shore and tried to investigate. The technician found that a small plastic
chip – 1 cm in diameter, and 2 mm in height was missing from under one of the oars. It was so
small – practically invisible – that we had no idea it even existed on the boat.
This tiny, seemingly unimportant cog had almost caused us to lose balance and fall!
The moral of the story is a big lesson for organisations. It conveys that cooperation is needed from
Chairman to Doorman of an organisation for its Operational Excellence and growth. Operational
Excellence is a state in which each and every employee can see the value of his/her work and the
flow of value to the customer. Operational Excellence applies to all employees, however small his
task may look – ultimately every individual persons’ performance adds up to the performance of
the organisation as a whole. It has to be practiced every day, by everyone and everywhere. This
alone is the ‘Mantra’ for organisational & business excellence.
