INSURANCE TIPS
TIPS FOR THE COLD WINTER MONTHS - HOME & AUTO'Tis the season for fun and happiness with the family. But are you ready and safe for the colder
months? Here are some things you can do to prepare your home and autos.
HOME• Clear out gutters, repair roof leaks, and remove debris to avoid issues arising out
of snow and ice buildup, blockage and melt.
• Make sure your fireplace's flue is closed when not in use to avoid heat loss in
your home.
• Check your Fire and Smoke Alarm System's batteries and function as more fires
are lit during winter months.
• Maintain a consistent warm temperature in your home to avoid freezing pipes. During extra cold spells, keep cabinet doors open around pipes so they can be exposed to your home’s warm air. Consider pipe insulation for pipes in areas openly exposed to cold air.
AUTO• Drive only if absolutely necessary. Some 70% of winter storm deaths are auto-
related: 1 in 4 are the result of people being stranded in severe weather.
• Make sure your tire pressure and tread are sufficient. As a rule of thumb, for every
10° Fahrenheit change in air temperature, tire pressures will change about 2%.
• Keep a Cold Weather Kit in your trunk. Include things such as: bagged salt or sand
for melting ice and traction, a blanket, warm apparel, food and water, a first aid kit,
a shovel, a flashlight and a backup charger for cell phones and other communication
devices.
The Jones Team participated in Shoes 4 the Shoeless to provide shoes and socks to Dayton area children in desperate need. This year the event was at John H. Morrison Elementary.
