Dean’s Message -- by Vernon Williams On October 15 we were treated to a meticulously
prepared and presented Annual Guild Service at
Chews United Methodist Church in Glendora. Our
host, Gary Langel, designed a service of readings,
hymns, a sermon, as well as vocal, flute, piano, and
organ solos. All of the musicians played beautifully.
In particular, Gary is to be commended for his fine
playing on both the piano and organ, and for his

imaginative organ registrations and hymn accompani-
ments. The church’s minister, The Rev. Dr. William
Wilson, led the service, and our Chaplain, The Rev.
Laurie Johnson, preached an inspiring sermon. After-
wards, attendees enjoyed lively conversation and deli-
cious food at the Olive Garden. The service was pre-
ceded by the installation of Guild officers by our Re-
gional Councillor, Glenn Rodgers. Many thanks to all

Convention Corner
-- by Evelyn Larter, CAGO
S F O R Z A N D O
Those of us who attended and manned our display at the Richmond
Regional Convention in June heard from many attendees there who
“did not know there was a South Jersey!” In the last few weeks
members of the Steering Committee for the 2019 Regional Conven-
tion focused on acquiring a new logo with which to promote our
convention. We wanted to convey an impression of a “happening
place”, a different image of South Jersey than perhaps comes to the
minds of the many people who only pass through on the New Jersey
Turnpike.
With the help of a talented graphic designer we selected this vibrant
image, representing sound emerging from organ pipes. The blue
dots can also represent water spray, an appropriate image for our
joint hosts, the SouthEast Jersey Chapter. We think this logo has a
lot of energy and excitement - pizzazz even! You will be seeing
plenty of it in the next twenty months or so!

Candlelight Choral Evensong &
Anniversary Organ Recital
St. John’s Episcopal Church, 76 Market Street
Salem, NJ Nov. 19, 2017 4:00 PM
The St. John’s Choir will sing a special Candlelight Evensong on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 4:00 PM. Evensong is a beautiful, contemplative service of music, scripture, and prayers with ancient roots in the Anglican Church. St. John’s Church building, erected in 1838, in a blend of Norman and Gothic styles, is an appropriate setting for such a service. St. John’s Choir of volunteer and professional singers, under the direction of William Clisham, Minister of Music, and assisted by guest organist Jack Burnam, will offer music on this occasion, featuring Preces & Suffrages composed by Mr. Clisham, a Psalm setting by Jo-seph Barnby, Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis in F by Arthur Herbert Brewer, and anthems by Jean Berger and Raymond Weidner.
In addition, there will be Organ Preludes and a special half-hour Organ Recital following Evensong played by Mr. Burnam, Director of Music at Immanuel Church on the Green, New Castle, DE, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the installation of St. John’s magnificent Kimball/Gerger pipe organ (the finest in Salem County). St. John’s Church is located at the corner of Market Street and Grant Street in historic Salem City. The Parking lot behind the Parish House is entered from Grant Street.
For more details, call St. John’s Episcopal Church: (856) 935-1798.
