CAMOGIE
Valley Rovers 4-07 Clonakilty 2-06
Valley Rovers hosted Clonakilty in round 4 of the U18
camogie league in Brinny last Saturday. Clon started
well with two well taken scores from play before Valley
Rovers settled into the game & took control in midfield
as the half wore on. An important goal before half time
by Sarah Lynch gave Valleys a four point lead at the
break.
The Valleys defence led by Sarah McCarthy took control
in the second half but it wasn’t until a fourth Valleys
goal with five minutes remaining that the game was
made safe against a resilient Clonakilty team. Well done
to the girls on a deserved win.

LADIES FOOTBALL
VALLEY ROVERS ARE U21 C COUNTY CHAMPIONS
Valley Rovers 7-17, Naomh Abán 2-08
Valley Rovers Ladies Under 21s had a resounding victory in the 21C Championship over Naomh Abán last Tuesday night at Redmond GAA Grounds. It was a beautiful evening for football and the large Valley’s support got to view an outstanding display of football. The physicality, movement on and off the ball, support play and score taking was excellent. Valley’s main scorers were the Kiely twins, Kate Bernard, Danielle Murphy and Lisa Lynch. Valley’s went into an early lead with three quick goals however midway through the first half Naomh Abán got two of their own. Valley’s rallied for the last ten minutes with two more goals and led by eleven points at half time. This was a comfortable lead however we had the fall of ground and wind in the first half. As with other games in this championship, Valley’s showed their true football ability playing against the elements in the second half. Valley’s kicked six points early in the second half and put the game out of Naomh Abán’s reach. Valley’s defence over the last 15 minutes of the game was excellent with no space being given to the opposition. The final score reflected Valley’s dominance and the level of ability and promise this group of girls has. The Team Captain Katie Lynch gave an excellent acceptance speech demonstrating why she is such an outstanding captain both on and off the pitch. The team management would like to thank the Club Chairman and the officers of the Ladies Club for the clear vision they have established this year for the Valley’s Ladies Gaelic Football Club. I would also like to thank the girls on the team who represent Cork three nights a week and still find time for Valley’s, the new girls from Bandon and Kilbrittain who joined us this year, the Mary I girls who travel long distances for matches and especially those girls doing their Leaving Cert. in a few weeks time who gave total commitment to the team.

JUVENILE
UNDER 15’s
VALLEY ROVERS ARE U15 CHALLENGE CUP
CHAMPIONS
Valley Rovers 3-12 Whitechurch 3-08
Our U15 hurlers played the Challenge Cup final on
Saturday last against Whitechurch. The early
exchanges were very even – a goal from Adam Walsh
Murphy put us ahead, then Whitechurch replied with
two points. A goal from Conor Taheny then put us
ahead at half-time, with a score of 2-4 to 1-5.
The second half again started off very even, but we
started to take control to lead by two goals with 15
mins to go. However, a free from Whitechurch from
50 yards out ended up in the back of the net,
narrowing our lead. Great defending from our backs
and good team work from midfield saw us leading
again and points from Eoin O’Sullivan, Conor Callanan
and Gerard Connolly saw us to victory with a final
score of 3-12 to 3-08.

Our U15 C3 hurlers are playing semi Final of the
County this Thursday against Kiltha Og @ 7:30 in
Castlemartyr. Support would be appreciated.
UNDER 13’s
Kilta Og 3-18 Valley Rovers 0-09
Our P2 hurlers travelled to Dungourney on Saturday
afternoon to take on Kiltha Og. Playing into a strong
wind in the first half our lads contested well and only
trailed by 4 points at half time on a scoreline of 0-10 to
0-06.
The efforts of the first half as well as many of our lads
playing a number of Sciath Na Scol games on the
previous days began to show as the second half
progressed and a strong Kiltha Og side began to pull
away on the scoreboard as our lads tired.
Next up for our P2 hurlers is a league game against
Eire Og.
Glanmire 5-14 Valley Rovers 6-08
Our C3 footballers travelled to Sallybrook last Tuesday
evening to take on the hosts Glanmire. This turned out
to be a very competitive, high scoring match. Glanmire
started well leading 2-2 to 0-0. Our lads responded
well to leave the half time score at 2-6 to 1-3 to
Glanmire. The second half was highly entertaining with
end to end scores. Only a point separated the sides as
the last few minutes approached, but the home side
managed to get a few late scores to edge it in the end.
A special thanks to all the U12’s who participated and
all play very well on the night.
UNDER 11’s
Our U11 footballers travelled to hosts St. Michael’s on
Saturday for the qualifying rounds of the John Kerins
tournament. Our first group game against Duarigle
Gaels (Millstreet/Cullen) was a very even contest. Our
lads trailed for most of this contest but showed great
determination to stay within a score or two at all times
and got their reward with a well worked goal near the
final whistle to get the win. Next up were Na Piarsaigh
and a strong start had us ahead throughout and
although Na Piarsaigh came back strongly in the
second half we held on for a 2 point win. The pressure
was off for our final game against St. Michael’s as two
wins had assured our place in the finals. This allowed
our lads to play some great open football taking some
great scores and running our convincing winners.
Well done to all and our U11’s are now looking
forward to the finals in Pairc Ui Rinn in June.
