Friday, November 11 – Peter Sheppard Skaervard, violin – Highly acclaimed international recording artist from London, England shares music of Ole Bull on the violin played by the Swedish musician. Peter has performed on Prairie Home Companion and is known for his interpretation of historical works often played on an instrument created during the corresponding timeframe, in addition to premiers and support of new compositions for violin around the world. Satuday, November 12 – Peter Sheppard Skaervard Masterclass. Open to anyone interested in learning about interpretation and performance of music. Students of UWRF violinist Natalia Moiseeva will perform and be coached by Peter in front of an audience at the Hastings Arts Center at 10:00 a.m. This includes a performance by Peter Sheppard Skaervard as part of the 2-hour event. Thursday, November 17 – Johan de Meij, highly esteemed composer and conductor from the Netherlands, brings new music to the stage for a world premier of “Evolution – Fifity Shades of E”. Musicians from the region combine with the University of Wisconsin Symphony Band, led by Kris Tjornehoj, for a United States premier of “Celtic Classics”. Additional selections include one of the Bandworks rated top 100 band works of 2016“Downtown Divertimento” plus “Summer”, featuring folk music of Finland. Friday, December 2 – Celebrating the UWRF “Year of Brazil”, music by Pat O’Keefe and his group, Choro Borealis, perform as part of the Frances Cohler Coffee Concert

Series. Pat O’Keefe is a faculty member at UWRF and performs on the clarinet in addition to percussion instruments along with Tim O’Keefe on mandolin and percussion. Thursday, December 8 – The UWRF Music Department features James Dutton, flute from the Buckingham Palace Guard Band in London, England. Mr. Dutton will perform the Cecile Chaminade “Flute Concerto” under the baton of Dr Kris Tjornehoj with the UWRF Symphony Band. Other selections include “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” by J.S.Bach featuring Mr. Dutton and “Christmas Medley for Band”. 7:30 p.m. in William Abbott Concert Hall, Kleinpell Fine Arts Center on the UWRF Campus. GUEST ARTIST PETER SHEPPARD SKAERVARD:Peter Sheppard Skærved is the dedicatee of well over 200 works for solo violin, by composers such as George Rochberg, Judith Weir, Michael Finnissy, and Hans Werner Henze. He regularly appears as soloists in over 30 countries. His discography is extensive, ranging from cycles of sonatas by Beethoven and Telemann, the complete quartets of David Matthews, Michael Tippett, and cycles of concerti from Haydn to Henze.

He has won awards from the BBC Music Magazine, been nominated for a Gramophone Award, as well as a GRAMMY for a concerto recording in 2007. He records for NMC, Chandos, Naxos, Metier and Toccata. Director of an acclaimed series of concerts at Wiltons Music Hall in London, Peter Sheppard Skærved is the founder and leader of the Kreutzer

Quartet and the Munich-based Ensemble Triolog. He regularly appears as director and soloist with ensembles such as the Zagreb Soloists and Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen.

Peter Sheppard Skærved is the only British violinist to have been invited to play on Paganini’s violin il Cannone more than once (five times in particular) and he regularly gives recitals on the prestigious collection of historic instruments at the Library of Congress, Washington. He is also acclaimed for his collaborative work with museums, working regularly with the British Museum, National Portrait Gallery, Tate Galleries, Victoria and Albert Museum and   worldwide. He plays on a 1698 Stradivari owned by Joseph Joachim from the collections of the Royal Academy of Music, where he is the Fellow of Performance Studies.

GUEST ARTIST JAMES DUTTON:James Dutton makes a Brexit to the US bringing his colorful flute as well as his pomp and circumstance to Hastings, MN.  Join us this evening for a delightful treat from across the waters.

James was born in Marlow, England and studied flute at the Royal College of Music in London. During his time at the RCM, he won prizes for orchestral, solo and chamber music performances. He has also been awarded two Worshipful Company of Musicians' Silver Medals, and a Fellowship in Flute Performance from Trinity College London. In 1995 he was a Park Lane Group Young Artist,

giving his London recital debut at the Purcell Room, including the world premiere of "The Colour of Pomegranates", written for him by the leading British composer Julian Anderson.  In 1997 he was appointed principal flute of the Band of the Scots Guards in London. He has appeared with them as a soloist in concerts all over the UK and further afield. Performances have included solo appearances at the Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall, the Beaulieu-sur-Mer music festival, a concert tour of major cities across Australia, and alongside artists such as violinist Nicola Benedetti and tenor Ian Bostridge. He has also been principal flute of the Showbiz Pops Orchestra, CAMus Sinfonietta, Cygnus Orchestra of London, L'Anima di Musica and the Perspectives Ensemble. He has recently been appointed co-principal flute of the London Military Band. Over the last twenty years he has appeared in numerous recitals in venues across London as a soloist and chamber musician. He also appears on many recordings both with his own band and as a guest performer, and has given live radio and TV broadcasts.
