Game 117 | Home Game 61 (40-20) | Night Game 87 (47-39)
TV: SNLA | Radio: AM 570/KTNQ 1020 AM
SEEING RED: The Dodgers continue a four-game series against
the Cincinnati Reds after their 65th
victory of the season last night.
Los Angeles opened the seven-game homestand (3-2) by taking
two of three games from Washington and will complete its season
series with the Reds in a hurry – facing Cincinnati five more times
in its next 10 games. Following the Reds series, the Dodgers will
embark on an eight-game, 11-day road trip to Oakland (2 G),
Houston (3 G) and Cincinnati (3 G).
Los Angeles has the fifth-best record in the Majors and
continues to lead the NL in home runs (140, nine more
than Colorado) and on-base percentage (.331), while
leading the Major Leagues with 398 walks.
The Dodgers have won three of four games overall, but
are just 9-14 against the NL Central this season. Los
Angeles has won eight of its last 11 against the Reds at
Dodger Stadium.
This evening, eight members of the SoldierCare Project
will throw ceremonial first pitches. The SoldierCare
Project is a Studio City based humanitarian and non-
political outreach to wounded and PTSD veterans across
the country.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: The Dodgers are 40-20 (.667) at
home, near pace for one of the best home records in club history:
Dodgers’ Best Home Winning Pct. Since 1962
1. 1980 .671 (55-27)
2t. 2015 .667 (40-20)
2t. 1978 .667 (54-27)
2t. 1991 .667 (54-27)
The best home mark in modern franchise history was set
in 1953 at Ebbets Field, 60-17 (.779).
Los Angeles’ home winning percentage is tied for fifth in
the Majors with Kansas City, behind the Cardinals (.717,
43-17), Mets (.689, 42-19), Pirates (.684, 39-18) and
Astros (.684, 39-18).
LEFT IS RIGHT: Kiké Hernandez had a career-high tying three
hits (five times) for the second consecutive game last night and has
caught fire of late, batting .469 (15-for-32) with three doubles, two
homers and five RBI in his last 13 games since July 24.
Hernandez is hitting a National League-best (min. 50 AB) .411
against left-handers (23-for-56).
LOS ANGELES LEGEND: Dodger outfielder Andre Ethier had
a pinch-hit double in his only at-bat, cracking the 295th
of his
career, which ranks fourth in L.A. Dodger history. In addition to
doubles, Ethier already ranks among the LA top 10 in games
(1,378, 8th
– next: Scioscia, 1,441), runs (625, 10th
– next: Gilliam,
630), hits (1,325, 7th
– next: Cey, 1,378), home runs (157, 9th, next:
Green, 162) and RBI (668, 5th
, next: Cey, 842).
Ethier has posted a .355/.430/.559 slashline in his last 32
games since June 29, going 33-for-93 with eight doubles,
a triple, three homers and 12 RBI in that span.
THINKCURE! WEEKEND: ThinkCure! Weekend, the annual
weekend helping Angelenos in their battle against cancer, kicked
off last night at Dodger Stadium. Through ThinkCure!, the
Dodgers support City of Hope’s efforts to find new treatments and
cures for cancer while encouraging fans to support that work as
well. To date, ThinkCure! has provided $1.8 million in local
cancer research grants, accelerating the search for cures and
leveraging that investment into an additional $40 million in
research support. Donations can always be made to ThinkCure! by
texting the word “CURE” to 50555 for a $10 donation, or by
visiting the ThinkCure! website at www.thinkcure.org
HATCHED:Yesterday, the Dodgers reinstated right-handed
reliever Chris Hatcher from the 60-day disabled list and placed
reliever Juan Nicasio on the 15-day DL with a left abdominal
strain. To make room for Hatcher on the 40-man roster, the club
placed RHP Carlos Frias on the 60-day DL. Hatcher last pitched in
a big league game on June 14 in San Diego and his last Dodger
Stadium appearance was May 27.
THIS IS NEW TO ME: Dodger starter Brett Anderson will
make his first career appearance against the Reds tonight.
Anderson is coming off a rough outing, but has posted a 3.06 ERA
in 18 starts since May 3.
Anderson has induced 17 double plays on the season,
which is tied for fourth in the NL. The 27-year-old leads
the Major Leagues in ground ball percentage (66.1).
ON A ROLL: Jimmy Rollins has hit safely in 13 of his last 15
games and is batting .309 (25-for-81) with seven doubles, a triple,
three homers and six RBI in his last 21 games since July 22.
Rollins enters tonight’s game just one doubles shy of 500 for his
career and would become just the fifth active player to reach the
milestone, joining Albert Pujols (576), David Ortiz (567), Adrian
Beltre (546) and Alex Rodriguez (536).
CLIMBING THE LADDER: Dodger closer Kenley Jansen has
successfully converted 23 of 24 save opportunities this year,
including his last 16 in a row since June 12. Last night, Jansen
moved into a tie with Jeff Shaw for second place on the all-time
Dodger saves list:
All-Time Dodgers Saves Leaders
1. Eric Gagne 161
2. Kenley Jansen 129
2. Jeff Shaw 129
Jansen is the second Dodger in franchise history to post
four consecutive 20-save seasons (2012-15), joining Jeff
Shaw (1998-2001).
With the 504th
and 505th
strikeouts of his career last night,
Jansen passed Jonathan Broxton (503) for the second
most strikeouts as a reliever in Los Angeles history,
behind only Jim Brewer’s 604 Ks.
WE LOVE YOU TOMMY: On this date in 1997, the Dodgers
officially retired Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda’s No. 2.
Lasorda, who managed the Dodgers for 20 seasons (1977-96)
compiled a 1,599-1,439 record (.526) and won two World Series
(1981, '88), four National League pennants (1977, 78, 81, 88) and
eight division titles. The skipper will turn 88 next month.
POWER UP: The Dodgers have received a bevy of homers from
their outfield this season, paced by Joc Pederson’s 22:
NL Teams, Most Home Runs by Outfielders, 2015 Season
Los Angeles Dodgers 52
Colorado Rockies 51
Washington Nationals 51 SOURCE: STATS, LLC
PLAY BALL!: This morning, the Los Angeles Dodgers
Foundation (LADF) dedicated its first universally accessible field
for youth with disabilities and its 38th
overall Dodgers Dreamfield
at Baldwin Recreation Center in Los Angeles. Dodger President
and CEO Stan Kasten, Clayton Kershaw and his wife, Ellen,
Adrian Gonzalez and his wife, Betsy, and Joc Pederson and his
