Relics. On November 26, 2014, local officials, friends, and family gathered for a ribbon cutting for Relics. Owner Teresa Tate reported that “we are thankful for the opportunity to serve the Belmont-Golden region. Relics offers unique and unusual antiques, survival gear, guns, ammunition, and Belmont TV offers TV’s, laptops, an-tennas, Exede internet service, Dish Network, DirecTV, and accessories.” Owner Jay Tate also mentioned that “we do minor gun repair and cleaning, refinish guns, reload ammunition, and we also repair computers and televisions and make service calls.”

Relics is located next door to Belmont TV on Main Street and is open Monday thru Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 1 PM. The telephone number is 662-454-9537. Find us on Facebook.

Walmart Neighborhood Market. On December 3, 2014, local officials, manage-ment, and associates gathered for a ribbon cutting for Walmart Neighborhood Mar-ket in Belmont. The Belmont store employs 35. The store offers the usual mer-chandise plus fresh produce, fuel service, and a pharmacy. Cynthia Hutcheson is the store manager.

Walmart is located on Second Street (Highway 25) and is open Monday thru Satur-day from 7 AM to 10 PM and Sunday from 8 AM to 9 PM.

Mississippi Silicon. The WIN Job Center is testing potential applicants for electrical and mechanical maintenance positions at Mississippi Silicon. These positions will be working in the maintenance department and with the contractors during the installation of equipment for the plant. Applicants must have experience in the following maintenance areas: electrical, welding, building, equipment, and mechanical. Applicants must be able to use hand tools, have good communication skills, mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, adaptability to various working conditions, and work in a team. Applicants will be required to take the Career Readiness Certification test and score “silver”, plus pass the Job Pass test (a hands on skills test). Once these tests are completed you will complete a company application. Pay will be based on experience. Testing dates are being scheduled as needed by Northeast Mississippi Community College. The company will be accepting applicants for production, laboratory, shipping, and other positions after the first of the year. Be Your Own Boss. The majority of new small businesses in the USA start as home-based businesses. Expansion and creation of home-owned small businesses is the number one economic devel-opment need in Tishomingo County.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers free individu-al and private counseling services to businesses and individuals who want to start a business. The SBDC web site at www.mssbdc.org offers valuable information for existing businesses, individuals wanting to start a business, inventors, exporters, and others. SBA also offers a Small Loan Program of up to $150,000 thru local banks. SBA guarantees 85% of the loan and there is no guaranty fee or maintenance fees. Underwriting and approval are streamlined.
