Students will receive traditional class schedules, and they will be expected to join each class session on
TEAMS every day at set times, just as they would go from class to class if they were in the school
building.
So, I encourage families to continue to familiarize themselves with the Microsoft TEAMS platform. It
will be very important for each of us to be as familiar with the TEAMS platform as possible, as we
work together to support students in successful learning.
***NEW***
While we encourage parent to play an active role in the virtual learning process, parent should not:
• Parents should not interact directly with any students or teachers during a live classroom session
• Parents should not expect to be able to talk with, question, or conference with a teacher during a
live class session
• Parents should not communicate with any students in the virtual classroom at any time.
The virtual classroom sessions are designed to present students and teachers with as normal a
traditional classroom experience as possible, and we need to allow students and teachers to own this
space. If parents have questions about a lesson or any other concerns, parents are encouraged to email
the teacher with any questions or concerns. However,
Virtual attendance will be taken during each class session just as if they were in the school
building. Students and teachers will utilize the TEAMS platform for the delivery of daily classroom
instruction, content discussions and assignment completion.
Students will be expected to join each class session per their schedule on time every day. Tardies will be counted if students join class sessions after the start time.
Students will be scheduled for a traditional set of courses:
• ELA
• Math
• Science
• Social Studies
• Intervention
• Exploratory 1
• Exploratory 2

PERIOD 7 1:15-2:05
PERIOD 8 2:10-3:00
• We recognize you are concerned about your child sitting down at the computer and remaining
there all day long. While, we cannot do a great deal to shorten the amount of time required in
front a computer in this virtual learning world, we have made some adjustments to our daily
schedule in give students two 20-minute “brain breaks” in addition to a thirty-minute lunch
break each day.
• TEAMS: Delivery of instruction will be provided on this platform pre-loaded on new devices
o Schedule of Parent/Student trainings coming soon
• CANVAS: All educational resources are available on this platform pre-loaded on new devices
• iReady (online): Extended learning opportunities/interventions
• Florida Virtual (online): Extended learning opportunities/interventions
• To the extent possible, the Kodiak Channel, with announcements will return for the 20-21
school year. These YouTube-based, video announcements are available on our website for
parents and shown to students each day at a designated time.
• Teachers will utilize REMIND for student and parent communications.
• Administrators will utilize the district-provided BlackBoard (Bb) communication system to
communicate with students and parents.
Each class session will be recorded within the TEAMS platform. This will be very helpful in allowing
parents to review the daily lessons with their children. These recorded lessons can be reviewed at any
time. Additionally, if a student experiences internet connectivity difficulty, feels ill, or simply wants to
review a given lesson, these daily recorded class sessions will be available right in the TEAMS
platform.
***NEW***
When your child is sick, please email your note to Ms. Hannah, Attendance Coordinator, at
We encourage students to use the restroom between each class, just as they would traditionally. The
virtual bell schedule has five minutes built in between each class period, so that students can transition
from one class session to the next, grab a snack or something to drink and use the restroom.
Each TEAMS session has an associated dial-in number. If a student has internet difficulty, he or she
may dial into the class session using the associated phone number.
Additionally, each class session will be recorded within the TEAMS platform. This will be very
helpful in allowing parents to review the daily lessons with their children. These recorded lessons can
be reviewed at any time. Additionally, if a student experiences internet connectivity difficulty, feels ill,
or simply wants to review a given lesson, these daily recorded class sessions will be available right in
the TEAMS platform.
***NEW***
Should you experience a temporary loss of power due to an MLGW disconnection, please provide the
school with your MLGE documentation and your child’s “virtual absence” will be excused. Your child
will be able to make up any missed assignments and assessments that he or she may have missed during
this time. Email your documentation to Ms. Hannah, Attendance Coordinator, at
As above, each class session will be recorded within the TEAMS platform. This will be very helpful in
allowing parents to review the daily lessons with their children. These recorded lessons can be
reviewed at any time. Additionally, if a student experiences internet connectivity difficulty, feels ill, or
simply wants to review a given lesson, these daily recorded class sessions will be available right ion the
TEAMS platform.
There are two major and important differences between the live, real-time virtual class session and the
recorded class session. First and most importantly, students that are not engaged in the live, real-time
sessions with his or her teachers will not have the opportunity to ask questions, participate in class
discussion, interact with peers online around the learning, gain insight and share thinking, nor will they
be receiving live instruction. Secondly, students are expected to be a part of the live, real-time classes,
and the TN Department of Education and SCS will be monitoring student attendance through the live,
real-time classes. Students reviewing recorded lessons only will not receive attendance credit and will
be considered absent, which can lead to truancy.
If parents have any concerns with a class or teacher, parents should first contact the teacher or teachers by email. Teacher email addresses can be found on the KBMS website. Parents should expect to receive a return email or a call from the teacher(s) no later than the close of business the day following the email when sent Monday-Thursday and no later than close of business on Monday following an email sent on Friday. Again ,parents are encouraged to first contact their child’s teachers when concerns or questions arise regarding a child’s academic or behavioral progress. Should this prove not to answer questions or resolve concerns, parents are the encouraged to reach out the grade-level counselor or administrator. If none of these communications prove successful, parents are encouraged to contact Dr. Murrah, Principal. 6th Grade: Assistant Principal: Mr. S. Jones ([email protected]) Counselor: Ms. L. Jones ([email protected]) 7th Grade: Assistant Principal: Ms. M. Harrison ([email protected]) Counselor: Ms. L. Bivins ([email protected]) 8th Grade: Assistant Principal: Ms. T. Schmidt ([email protected]) Counselor: Ms. R. Jones ([email protected])
As we have commonly practiced, students and parents will be highly encouraged to reach out to grade-
level counselors, teachers, administrators, and other support staff at any time to seek assistance with
any social and emotional health concerns, including through a scheduled conference for students and
parents, by phone, email, or virtually.
Each student will be placed in a virtual, intervention-styled class, with a teacher that focuses only on
intervention or enrichment for math and ELA as assigned.
After-school, virtual tutoring options will be explored.
Athletics will follow SCS and TSSAA guidance regarding all conditioning sessions and will continue
await guidance regarding the next phase of our athletic programs.
Athletics conditioning will begin on August 19, 2020. Specific information regarding conditioning
sessions will be coming soon.
Yes, and we are still developing these plans. We will provide additional information after school starts.
