notes:
An identity system is much
more than the format and use
of a symbol. A comprehensive
graphic identity system is a
structure for communicating and
presenting information logically,
clearly and with distinction.
The horizontal logo should be
used only in situations where
the minimum size requirements
for the vertical logo cannot be
met in the space allowed.
The icon cannot be combined with
any other design element such as
photography, type, borders, nor can
it be incorporated into another logo.
See the color palette slide for
complete color conversions
for specific printing and on
screen mediums (slide 13).
Any logo in color should only be
shown on a white and/or light
gray background. The white logo
should then be used on most color,
gradient or image backgrounds.
logo standards | logo family
The logo should never be stretched, squished or
dismantled. Do not use outlines, drop shadows,
non-brand colors or gradients.
White and/or light gray backgrounds only Color, gradient and/or
image backgrounds only.

logo standards | signatures | combinations
notes:
The Valley Metro logo should
always be on the right side of
the logos with the divider line
between. Spacing should be equal
to one Valley Metro symbol M unit.
Other logos used should read
from left to right in alphabetical
order unless otherwise specified;
for example, “sponsorships”
where the donation value
dictates the order to be read.
On documents that requires
multiple logos and Valley
Metro contact information, the
Valley Metro logo and contact
information should be placed on
the bottom right and the other
logos should be left-justified on the
bottom left in alphabetical order.

notes:
An updated version of the
Valley Metro swoosh, the arcs
mimic forward motion as well
as a silhouette of a modern
mass transport vehicle.
Arcs can be set in any of the
six primary colors, by Pantone,
correct CMYK conversion for
print or RGB for on-screen.
Files of the arcs are available for
printed material: CMYK coated
and uncoated stocks, as well as
RGB for on-screen design. Use
only the color conversions from
this brand guide (slide 13).
When solid arcs are used, bottom
band should also be solid.
Use only solid arcs when
printing on uncoated paper.

VALLEY METRO CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER Scott Smith
Valley Metro is the regional public transportation agency providing coordinated, multi-modal transit options to residents of greater Phoenix. With a core mission of advancing a regional transportation network, Valley Metro plans, develops and operates the bus, vanpool and light rail systems and alternative transportation programs for commuters, seniors and people with disabilities.
HISTORY
In 1993, the name Valley Metro was adopted as the identity for the regional transit system in the metropolitan Phoenix region. Under this brand name, local governments set the policy for the regional system that operates throughout the Valley. In 2008, the first 20 miles of light rail began service. Currently, six light rail extensions are planned or under construction to create a 66-mile system by 2034.
Valley Metro is governed by two boards of directors. The Regional Public Transportation Authority (RPTA) Board consists of 16 public agencies (15 cities and Maricopa County) that set the policy direction for all modes of transit except light rail. The Valley Metro Rail Board consists of five cities that set the policy direction for light rail high-capacity transit. The boards and the agency work to improve and regionalize the public transit system.
REGIONAL FUNDING
Maricopa County voters approved Proposition 400 in 2004 extending the 1983 county-wide transportation tax. The half-cent on every dollar of goods purchased funds the Regional Transportation Plan, which includes basic transit services. Since 2004, transit receives one-third of the half-cent tax, which is used for regional bus services and high-capacity transit services such as light rail and streetcar; the remaining two-thirds goes toward freeways and streets. The half-cent sales tax, along with federal matching funds and other funding sources, is projected to provide $6.9 billion in public transportation improvements through 2026.
Fixed-route bus, light rail and alternative transportation programs also receive funding from the Federal Transit Administration, Arizona Department of Transportation, Maricopa Association of Governments and member agencies.
Valley Metro services:
• Local, Express and RAPID bus service
• Light rail service
• Rural route and neighborhood circulators
• Dial-a-Ride paratransit service
• Commuter vanpool service
• Online commute matching system
• Employer assistance in creating and implementingtravel reduction plans

notes:
Three designs that best fit
odd spaces that can clearly
promote the brand.
1 - The full logo and URL signature
should be used if space permits,
vertically or horizontally. Start
with the 8.5"x11" or 11"x17"
signatures and scale as needed.
2 - Just the logo itself, vertically
or horizontally.
3 - The logomark with just the
URL, vertically, horizontally,
or a combination, like the
vertical pen. Scale as needed
for the space required, however
keep clear space intact.
1 - verticalsignature
2 - logo only

notes:
A-frames use Nexa Heavy upper and
lowercase for the call-out and Nexa
Bold uppercase for the subhead, unless
the subhead is a sentence or too long.
Choose one of the solid arc variations
to incorporate the brand.
On the Valley Metro logo, use
the 11x17 lockup format without
text and increase it to 200%.
Maintain a 1 inch border inside
the trim for graphics and text.
Building signs use Nexa Book as
the main message and Museo 700
as the subhead. Use the gradient
arc to incorporate the brand.
Station signage has its own brand.
