    UPGRADING SKILLS FOR STRUCTURAL WELDERS

    I. Objective To upgrade the competency of local semi-skilled Structural Welders with aminimum of only 3 years local experience.

    II. Minimum Competency Entry Level Must have a basic competency on SMAW platewelding.

    III. Upgrading Competency Must be able to perform welding carbon steel platescomponents as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams, work order, weldingprocedure or oral instructions using SMAW welding equipment, to 2G + 3G + 4Gpositions, passing VT + RT.

    IV. Methodology:

    A. Classroom Work Basic knowledge in SMAW structural welding.

    C. Weld Procedure:

    1. Use PPE and observe safety practices.

    2. Identify base metal.3. Identify welding rods.4. Preheat welding rods.5. Check condition of welding machine / accessories.6. Prepare test coupon.7. Position test coupon on weld stand.8. Perform root pass.9. Rectify weld defects.9. Clean root pass.10. Weld subsequent / filling passes.11. Clean filling passes.

    12. Perform capping.13. Clean test coupon.14. Identify weld defects.15. Evaluation / inspection.

    D. Material P-1 Carbon Steel.Plate thickness 10mm.

    E. Electrodes E 7018 Root / Fill / Cap.

    V. Examination One ( 1 ) hour for all categories.
