the PRESIDENTS RAMBLINGS
Greetings Fellow Carvers,
A slightly belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. Hopefully everyone had time to finish up those Christmas projects in time. Every year I make a different ornament. Sometimes its carved, sometimes its turned, every year its different. This year’s was a pirate. (The ornament was actually a Moose Head, but I pirated the idea from Stan Tanner who was making them at a Poland Spring Carvers meeting). One of the benefits of carving with a group is the opportunity to see what other carvers are doing. (Thanks Stan). The 30th Annual Show and Competition is tentatively scheduled for the 17th of September at the Buker Community Center in Augusta, pending a completed rental agreement. The show will be basically the same as last year in terms of vendor spaces, competition area and club area with some minor tweaks. The same number of club tables will be available, Please let me know if your Chapter wishes to have a table. A big Thank You to the folks who have already volunteered to make the next years show happen. The line up so far is Bob Grimm-Show Chair, Justina Hatch-Publicity, Jim Irish- Prize Solicitation, Norm Devonshire-Judging, Arnie Pendexter-Security, George Roy-Setup/Teardown, Registration-Gary Sanio, Kathy Webster and Chuck Perry-Sales Table. Volun-teers are still needed for Admission and the Raffle. We are still looking for volunteers for the seminar committee. If you are interested please contact me. Also there are 2 green table clothes with the MWCA logo on them. They were last seen about 3 years ago. If anyone has them please let me know, they are needed. Bob Grimm President MWCA
From the Editors desk Submitted by Bernadette Hodgkins In the “Upcoming Events” portion of the newsletter I hope to list all of the major shows/events/seminars, etc. taking place this year so that members can plan accordingly. Please send me the dates of these shows/events/seminars so that I can post them in the newsletter. The more informed the membership is, the more likely they can plan to possibly attend some of these shows/events/seminars. I would like to start a “show and tell” section in our newsletter. I think it would be fun to see what other members/groups are doing. Please submit photo’s of pieces that you have or are currently working on with creator credits. We are all interested in what you are doing! Thank you all for the help you have given me in getting this newsletter electronically published. Also, thank you for pointing out things that needed to be corrected. It is much appreciated. Hopefully as the new year unfolds this newsletter will also develop into something that you will all look forward to receiving. Your contributions of photo’s, articles or funny quips will help make this a newsletter that will be enjoyed. You will be the one’s that makes this newsletter successful, all that I do is put it together. Wishing you all a very happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year!!! Thank You!!

After Show Meeting Notes.
The After show meeting was held on 12 December at the Great Wall in Augusta.
Attendance was sparse.
The President reported that last years show was a success, competition entries were up
47%, admission was over 200, the raffle table did extremely well and all vendor spaces
were rented. This resulted in a profit of $1046.38 for the MWCA. (The insurance costs
were included as a show expense). A big round of Thanks to all who volunteered their
time and efforts to make this happen
The new membership dues is working well. The majority of members chose the $15/
email newsletter option. The email newsletter seems to be working well, Thanks to our
hardworking newsletter editor. The current cost of mailing the newsletter is $12.00 per
month verses the old cost of $146.00 per month.
There was no Secretary's report as the Secretary was ill and unable to attend.
The Treasurers report was submitted by the President, as the Treasurer had traveled to
Boston to watch people whack each other with sticks.
There was no old business.
Under new business the 2015 show was discussed. A complete breakdown of expenses
and income were distributed. The discussion than turned to next years show. The con-
sensus was reached to do it again. A tentative date of 17 September 2016 (pending
rental agreement and sufficient committee volunteers) was set with the show to be held
at the same location as last year. Committee members were solicited, and a budget was
presented for next years show. There will be higher costs for the next show due to the
need to replenish the entry forms and add some more signage.
A suggestion to do away with the category ribbons was discussed, the majority felt they
should stay. A rules committee was formed to take a look at the competition rules and
categories to see if it is possible to simplify them to speed up the Judging process. The
floating of birds is one area for possible change.
There is a requirement in the bylaws to conduct an audit every year. How this is to be
done was discussed and an audit committee was formed.
There was a discussion on the NEWC Representative position and why we have one.
The meeting was adjourned.

Submitted by Justina Hatch
Streaked Mountains annual Christmas party
began with a wonderful pot luck menu fol-
lowed by secret Santa and Bob P's golf ball
carving. Thank you all for coming. If anyone
has an idea of what they might want to see
as a demo in the up coming meetings please
contact an officer. Our next meeting is on
January 9th at 1pm.

Another meeting done, chips flew and one got painted before it was finished. Best wishes and hope you healed. Next meeting
is January 20th. I will be working on a bark house and will have an extra piece or 2
with me. Hope to see more new people and the old ones. Thanks to the 2 newbies for coming and we hope you will return.
The Secretary’s Tale of the 19 December 2015 ’Twas the night before Christmas … well, okay, six days before Christmas, and all through the house … all right, the Community Room of the Ricker Memorial Library, all the creatures were stirring, and uncovering, and placing gifts, and bantering, and getting quite hungry. Some were late, however, having forgotten the execu-tive order that we would meet at noon on this occasion. (Mr. President, this means you!) He was forgiven, however, as he brought with him some mighty fine chili. We also had beef stew, potato casserole, sandwiches, salads, and all sorts of sweets. There were plenty of us to do justice to the meal, fifteen in all! Even Santa arrived, in full regalia. Since there was no snow on the ground, he was making a trial run in his red and white Mini Cooper. There was a burst of snow flakes in the air in his honor as he appeared. We talked and we ate, and exchanged some gifts. Some actually carved, of all things. And then we reluctantly agreed to have a business meeting. That began at 1:45pm. The Secretary refused to make up a tale about the last meeting on the spot, since he had left the tale at home. Much booing ensued. The Treasurer reported that we have $56 in the Library Fund and $24 in the Coffee Fund. This may indicate that we have our priorities straight, or that we spend the Coffee Fund as fast as it comes in! MSC to accept the report. OLD BIZ: Is it time to eat yet? That is all. NEW BIZ: Bob Grimm announced that the tentative date for the Maine Wood Carvers Association show is 17 September 2016, at the same location in Augusta. Norm Devonshire reported that Jan Oliver has been here from England for a short time. Her trailer and car are to be sold and she will be living full time in England, alas. The BIZ meeting came to an end at 1:52pm with a motion to adjourn. Santa was opposed. Then we went back to eating and talking and making wood chips.
