Rebecca Elizabeth Brandes ‘17 for organizing a team of 46 for the Gail Parkins Ovarian Cancer Walk and 5K run,

raising $2230 for research at Duke.

Bella Girone Church ‘18 for founding, organizing, and supervising the “Spread the Love and Music” club. This club

performs monthly at The Cypress retirement home.

Devin Matthew Gaines ‘16 and Andrew William Pruden ‘16 for their commitment and senior leadership with the

Honor Council.

Andrew William Pruden ‘16 and Ahmad Lamont Ratliff-Brown ‘16 for their commitment and senior leadership on the

Community Service Board.

Brett Charles Haensel ‘17 for his leadership organizing the “Ravens in the Hood” team for the Hood to Coast Race in

2015. The team raised over $41,000 for the American Cancer Society. Brett also organized the Running Over Cancer

5K as a fundraiser for the 2016 team.

Katharine Virginia Higginson ‘17 for resourceful implementation of the “Higginson’s Heroes” team for JDRF walk,

leading in the efforts to raise $845 for research for Type 1 Diabetes.

Kathryn Ann Hubbard ‘18 for using her experience traveling in Zambia to educate and facilitate the sophomore

collection for this year’s Zambia team to “Pack For A Purpose,” delivering educational items and lessons to the

children.

Cole Dominic Hudson ‘18 for establishing “Vamos Tennis,” a junior tennis program for underprivileged children in

Nosara, Costa Rica. Cole collects equipment donated in the US and takes it to Costa Rica where he provides tennis

equipment, clinics, and lessons, along with English lesson for the youth.

Natalie Marie Lang ‘17 for spreading her love of Computer Science and Technology through our community by

leading a Coding club, working with Middle and Upper School students and faculty to create coding opportunities, and

raising money to improve STEM education for children in developing countries.

Daniela Mainz ‘17 for excellent vision through the organization of Project Grateful events and team, spreading joy

while raising awareness and money for Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Care Center.

Madelynn Rachel Morin ‘17 for accountability and resourcefulness in the implementation of five Key Club gleaning

trips with 107 students who harvested tons of collards, lettuce, peppers, and sweet potatoes to donate to local food

banks.

Lily Elizabeth Sykes ‘18 for creating “Teens for the Cure Triangle to Coast,” covering 29 counties in NC. Some events

from just this year include the Polo Fundraising Event and the Saks Prom Fashion Show. She has just recently started

working with the Duke Cancer Institute to raise money for pediatric cancer, money raised will go towards a Pediatric

Lounge on the Duke medical campus for patients age 13 - 29.

with Walk for Babies sponsored by March of Dimes.

our Soldiers.

Evan O’Neal Colby ‘16 for having the only perfect score in the country on the AP Latin Exam.

Allison Nicole Arber ‘17 for advancing to the National Level of the ACS Chemistry Olympiad competition.

Corwin Alexander Carr ‘16 for being the first ever Ravenscroft student to earn a place on the Honors List for his

performance on the National Chemistry Exam (top 150); and for advancing to the National Level of the ACS

Chemistry Olympiad competition.

Sabrina Danielle Earp ‘16 for winning First Place among Seniors in the Phi Beta Kappa of Wake County Literary

Contest.

Madeline Musaus ‘17 for winning 1st place in her division in the State Science Fair, earning a trip to Phoenix where

she placed 4th at the International Science Fair.

Jordan Robert Norona ‘17 for being elected Lieutenant Governor of the Carolinas Key Club for the 2016-17 school

PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD

President Barack Obama is continuing the volunteer recognition program initiated in the 2002 State of the Union

address by President George W. Bush as he challenged all Americans to make time in their lives to assist their

neighbors, communities, the nation, and the world through service. As a result of this challenge, The Presidential

Volunteer Service Award program was developed to thank and honor citizens who met President Bush’s challenge.

The council believes that recognizing and honoring volunteers sets a standard for others and encourages them to

answer the President’s call to service.
