What does the Kidney do? 1. Blood enters through renal artery 2. Blood pressure forces some blood
plasma and small particles into the surrounding nephrons— (this is called the nephric filtrate). • Large particles such as blood cells and
proteins remain in capillaries. 3. The kidney filters out wastes from
metabolism – urea, uric acid, creatnine.
What does the Kidney do? 4. Only materials needed by the
body return to the bloodstream through diffusion • Water, glucose, amino acids, salts
5. The remaining filtrate is sent through the ureters into the bladder
6. Excretion occurs through the urethra (male and female differ in these structures)
