A CELEBRATION OF 2011 As the school year draws to a close, our final weeks will be spent in celebration of a great school, its great students and a great Public Education system.
We celebrated creative drive, perseverance, team work and ICT skills when UPS Productions...Never Down screened their 2011 short film, “Ned Kelly” last Tuesday evening.
We celebrated good manners, excellent behavior and great attitude when K-2 students travelled to Coffs Harbour for their excursion—the venue staff had never encountered such polite, friendly and intelligent students before (and they are popular destinations for school children).
We celebrated healthy outdoor living, friendship and all that is good about stepping outside your comfort zone and pitting your wit against the unknown when 3/4R experienced Lake Ainsworth Camp.
Over the coming weeks we will celebrate our senior students time at Ulmarra Public and wish them well in their years at high school.
On Presentation Day we will acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of our students at school on academic, social, cultural and sporting fronts.
We have much to be thankful for at Ulmarra Public and much to celebrate. Enjoy! Regards,
Sandra Armstrong Principal BIG RIVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS FILM FESTIVAL
Congratulations 5/6AM on their screening at the 8th Annual Big River Public Schools Film Festival! The state’s longest running Primary Public School Film Festival reached new heights last week with a swathe of amazing films showcased. Ned Kelly and his gang protested their innocence, the Gillwinga Gnomes spread their environmental message and zombies and aliens took over at least two North Coast small schools! It was very evident in the standard and variety of films screened that much
inspiration and perspiration was involved. The film process is a highly creative and at times demanding one, all students involved are to be commended. ENROLMENTS K-6 2012
Ulmarra is currently taking student enrolments for 2012 in all classes from preschool to year 6. If you know of someone looking for a great school placement, please encourage them to contact the school on 66445266 for a school tour and an enrolment pack. It will be the best decision they ever make regarding their child’s education. DONATIONS NEEDED PLEASE
Our clothing pool has diminished this year and we are in need of clean school uniforms in reasonably good condition that you no longer require at home. If you have uniforms that your children have grown out of, please send them along to Mrs. McSwan. Many thanks. SOS FROM THE GREAT ULMARRA BITE CANTEEN
An S.O.S. from Mrs. McIlveen in the Great Ulmarra Bite Canteen. She is looking for an “Emergency Contact Person” to fill in at late notice should a rostered canteen volunteer be unable to work. Our canteen operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please contact Mrs. McSwan in the office on 66445266 if you are able to assist on these odd occasions. WORRIED ABOUT CYBERSAFETY?
If you have concerns, log on to www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/technology/cybersafety The Schoolatoz site has lots of useful links for parents and families in general. P&C FUNDRAISER
The P&C is raffling a gift hamper as an end of year fund raiser. Gifts of non perishable items for the festive season will be gratefully received. Just send them along to the office. Many thanks to our raffle ticket sellers and of course to the expert, Ken Cowan, who has the golden touch when it comes to selling tickets! Thanks Ken.

Our Excursion Last Friday Ulmarra children in Kinder, Year One and Year Two went on our excursion to Coffs Harbour. We first went to the Aquarium where we saw lots of fascinating marine life. We met a lady called Sandy. She spoke to us about all the marine life in the area. The group saw crayfish in tanks. We also saw an octopus and clown fish as well as lots of other kinds of fish. The octopus had a green football. We then went back on our journey to Tabatinga and we met a lady called Cathy. The class did lots of things like Ball Blasting, Mini Golf and the Jungle Gym. Sadly it was then time to go home. My favourite part was the Ball Blasting and the movie that we saw at the Aquarium. Madeline McKeown Year One Our Excursion On our excursion we went to the Aquarium and Tabatinga. At the aquarium we saw a butterfly fish, a shark, 2 eels, a clownfish and loads more. Then we watched a movie which showed us all the marine life on the Coffs coast. Did you know that some fish can change from boy to girl or girl to boy. Then we went to Tabatinga. We got put into three groups .There were three activates that we could enjoy - mini golf, ball blasting and the jungle gym. First my group went to the ball blasting. It was fun. We had to get foam balls, put them into the machine and press the red button on the right handle and then shoot. Next we went to mini golf. It was the
glow in the dark course. There were 9 tracks. When you got to the end you had to hit it hard to go up the ramp. Last but not least we went to the jungle gym. It was really big. I got really sweaty. At the back of the jungle gym we had a disco. There was bubbles and music. I ran around trying to eat them. We then went home on the bus. I didn’t fall asleep but some other people did. My favourite bit was ball blasting. Thank you Mrs. Conyard and Mrs. Campbell for a great day. Chloe Hallam Year Two
