President Greg Hipple Here we are folks, the busy season of summer- time. It is hard to believe it is July, the birthday of our nation, including the haying, lawn work, gardening, and livestock care chores just keep accumulating. Some of us, myself included like to do a bit of upkeep in the summer as well. I’ve wanted to paint our early 1900’s barn for two years now, perhaps this summer? The regional groups are off to a busy summer as well. The NEGG has a big and exciting event the weekend of July 9 at Aldermere Farm. The GLBGA already held one event; Belties Unlimited in Iowa. A second event is planned; the Midwest Classic will be July 1 in Illinois. These events held throughout the country by all the regional groups are always enjoyable. These events that are so vital to the promotion of the breed, if you’ve never attended one, please do so. You will without a doubt have a good time and meet some very dedicated people. Before we know it state fairs will be going, and soon after, it will be time to gather for the Belted Gallo- way Society’s Annual Meeting. Our event will be held in conjunction with World Beef Expo, which along with the Great Lakes Belted Gallo- way Association will celebrate their 25th Anniversary September 21-24, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Your Council will meet Wednesday, Sep- tember 20, 2017 at 6 pm. The Belt- ed Galloway Society Annual Meeting, Banquet, and elections are planned for Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Hampton Inn and Suites. The evening will begin with a social hour at 6 pm. The Open Belted Galloway Show is Friday, September 22, 2017 at 3 pm. Full details are available here in the US Beltie News, or online at beltie.org. Also, the World Beef Expo has contracted with Larry Martin Cattle Sales to hold the Midwest National Belted Galloway Sale Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 2 pm. There are consignments from all across the country consigned, so for members here in the Midwest, please take the opportunity to check out these top genetics offered in our own back yard. As you can see, it will be a busy and exciting next three months. I look forward to seeing many of you at these upcoming events. President Greg Hipple

Here we are folks, the busy season of summer-time.

Before we know it state fairs will be going, and soon after, it will be time to gather for the Belted Gallo-way Society’s Annual Meeting. Our event will be held in conjunction with World Beef Expo, which along with the Great Lakes Belted Gallo-way Association will celebrate their 25th Anniversary September 21-24, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Your Council will meet Wednesday, Sep-tember 20, 2017 at 6 pm. The Belt-

About bulls … Before advertising a young male be sure he is well conformed, tracks properly, has good legs and feet, and exhibits good weight gains. We should have data available on his birth weight, 205-day weaning weight, and yearling weight. If he's reached breeding age (around 18 months), it's definitely a plus to have his semen checked for quantity and motility, and uniform scrotal development ( two normal sized testicles). Any data availa-ble should appear in your advertisement along with his birth date and the names of his sire and dam. It is required that registration numbers be included on bulls advertised for sale in the classi-fieds.

concluded with the SBGA Annu-al Meeting. The Belted Galloway animal show was held on Saturday morning, April 29, 2017 with 30 entries in the blow-and-go and pen show categories. Our newest junior member (at left), Will Muck (TX), showed his animal

Five heifers (safe in calf) for sale and a select group of bred cows for sale. All five heifers were bred on 4/5/17 to Anderson Hill Usher through A.I and pasture exposed to FSB Jagger from 4/24/2017 to current. FSB Anja 52C 39819-B , is an extremely feminine female, with a beautiful front end, going back to a really good cow family in Canada called BCA Miss Christie. This female would

make an excellent show heifer and brood cow. FSB Joyce 53 39822, has an excel-lent combination of length, front end angularity that blends well into her shoulder, a female with some natural thickness and fleshing ability. Joyce goes back to the famous Aldermere Riga cow family. FSS Cordelia 68C 39814-B, is smaller framed with a lot of broodiness and spring of rib and rich in Scottish pedigree with Park Perseus, Bolebec Dun, Lullenden Bruno, Aldermere Riga and Du Rapide Gina. She will be a producer for years. FSB Rhiannon 64C 39817-B is a super long-bodied heifer with a bit of an outcross pedigree for most people. Her dam Moonshadow Grace has been a fantastic producer for us. FSB Listaka 67C 39825-B, is an ET heifer out of one of our top donors and show heifers, Alderemere Wiga. We showed her full sister (pictured). A great opportunity for some strong genet-ics. All bred cows that are due to calve this fall, AI’d to various bulls on 12/10/16, and then pasture exposed on 12/25/16 to Aldermere Chatfield 3C. Aldermere Tiaka T22 28630-B is AI’d to Shiralee Moonshine and will be an excellent addition to anyone’s herd. The opportunity to find a direct daughter of Lullenden Bruno doesn’t come around often. FSB Weekend Fun 104A 36079-D, is a direct daughter of probably one of the top females in the Belted Galloway in the US, Anderson Hill Weekend Gal. Weekend Gal was a National Champion and show female of the year and has been a great producer and donor for us. Weekend Fun was AI’d to Anderson Hill Usher. Moonshadow Grace W3 30538-B. is a big-bodied, heavy-milking female, that always raises a top calf and she may carry the red gene. She was AI’d to Mochrum Kingfisher. For interest in these females, contact Greg Starr DVM, Four Starr Belties, cattle located in Jefferson City, MO. (913)634-3494 or [email protected]. MINNESOTA.
