USGS Emergency Operations
• Natural Hazards Support and Monitoring• Geospatial Data Support and Acquisition
USGS Mission
USGS serves the nation by providing reliable scientific information:
• As an unbiased, multi-disciplinary science organization that focuses on biology, geography, geology, geospatial information, and water
• Is dedicated to the timely, relevant, and impartial study of the landscape, our natural resources, and the natural hazards that threaten us.
Minimize loss of life and property fromnatural disasters such as:
• Landslides• Earthquakes• Volcanic Activity• Flooding• Wildfires • Biological Diseases
USGS Mission
The over arching goal of the program is
To: make relevant remote sensing and earth science data available to customers
In a way that: is fast, efficient, and easy to use
So that: deaths, injuries, property damage, economic losses, and human suffering caused by disasters are minimized
And can be measured by: timeliness of response, accuracy of response, utility of products, and customer satisfaction.
