Types of Rooftops…

RCC Roofs : Reinforced Cement Concrete comprises of cement concrete in a specific ratio for the strength to be achieved for the job. It contains mild steel bars to lend tensile strength to a roof slab, projections and so on.

Factory Sheds : Factory sheds are made from thin sheet metal sheathing (galvanized steel, aluminium, or corrugated iron) attached to a metal frame.

Types of structures…

Normal anchored Structures ( Piercing the roof) Galvanised

Ballasted Structures

For Factory sheds Rails between trusses

Advantages of Solar Power Plants for PSUs Tariff

Rooftop Solar Plants are mostly built on the existing roof structures. As such the unutilized roof space that serve no purpose can be utilized to produce electricity.

Government gives the benefit of Accelerated Depreciation (AD) of 80%. Since PSUs have good turnovers, they can benefit from AD.

Payback period with AD is as low as 5 years and without AD is around 7 years. As such, for the next 18 to 20 years the only cost incurred will be O&M cost.

Levelized Cost of Electricity over a period of 20 years is around Rs.3/unit.

PSUs can meet their RPOs.

Preference for the load will be first Solar then Grid/DG

Types of Investment…

OPEX - The investor and the client enters into a PPA where the client only makes his roof available for which a lease agreement is entered in to between the client and the investor. The billing is done every month through a solar meter. As security the investor takes a Bank Guarantee (Revolving) or a lieu on an existing FD. This depends on the quality of the customer.

CAPEX - With the CAPEX model, the entire investment comes from the Operator, so it is more attractive for sites with less power requirements. The higher the power requirement, the higher the CAPEX required.
