User Fees and Government ChargesFISCAL YEAR 2013–2014

The Government of Nova Scotia will be increasing most user fees and government charges by 5.8 per cent in 2013–2014. The 5.8 per cent increase is tied to the average Consumer Price Index increase for the past two years.

The last government‑wide increase to user fees and government charges was in April 2011. The current increases will provide additional revenue to help cover the overall rising costs of government programs and services.

Most fees will increase on April 1, 2013. Some fees will increase on dates determined by the individual departments. This document summarizes and lists the various fees and charges and the revenue impact by department. The fee listing is provided for the convenience of readers. Where accuracy is critical, please contact the department responsible for the fee or official regulatory and legislative sources.

The Government of Canada is phasing out the penny and this may impact customers who pay a user fee with cash. The Government of Nova Scotia is following federal guidelines for rounding cash transactions by rounding the final price to the nearest nickel when necessary. Where possible, Nova Scotia fees and charges have been rounded to the nearest five cents. Customers who pay government fees electronically will not be impacted.
