Please Note! Restoring a backup will replace the current state of your database with the information contained in the backup that is being restored. If you want to make sure that you do not lose any data, make a new backup before using the restore command. A previously exported and deleted backup can be imported again to the BWS. To import a backup, click, Browse to select the backup file and then click, Import. The backup will then appear on the left side. An exported backup file name should never be modified because you will not be able to import it again. Please Note! After importing a backup, your database state remains unchanged until you restore the imported backup.

Viewing BWS reports and user administration rights (multi-user mode only) Each erasure report belongs to one unique user. A report can be seen and managed by the user who owns it and by users who have authority over this user. Example: In this example, Georges and Jack (normal users) were created by Sales (group admin) therefore they are under the Sales authority. So when browsing reports, Sales can only view his own reports and reports that belong to Georges and Jack. He cannot view reports that belong to Marketing, John, Billy, R&D, support, temp_project or development. Georges can only view his reports. He cannot view reports that belong to Sales, Jack, Marketing, John, Billy, R&D, support, temp_project or development.

VIEWING A REPORT AS AN XML FILE XML format is a simple and flexible text format allowing you to easily store and exchange data. Blancco XML exported files contain erasure report data, which can be used to backup reports. When needed, saved XML report files can be sent again to the BWS database using the importing functionality (see picture 14). Select the report(s) to be exported and click on the Export XML button. The following screen appears and allows you to choose the file's name and its location on your hard drive.

Picture 18: Export as XML file Note! If you select several reports to be exported, all the data will be contained in one single file with the default name all.xml.

After you have modified one report, click on modify to submit the changes. If you click on cancel or back to main, the report will not be modified. Note! Blancco client software contains MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5) checksum functionality to verify if the XML report data is the same as the data generated at the time of erasure. If you modify a report and export it under XML format, the XML report exported will not be stated as valid by the MD5 checksum test.

Picture 21: Importing reports

At this point you are able to define the report file that is to be imported to the Blancco – WAN Server (e.g. a:\preport.xml), or if you need to Browse for the file from possible locations. Choose also to whom those reports will belong.
