ADDITIONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS•� ENSURE that LCD TV stand is tightened properly to the set (See Quick Guide on the right way of tightening of the screw

of the stand to the set. Improper tightening of screw may render the set unsafe.•� If LCD TV is installed on the wall, installation should be carried out by qualified servicemen. Improperor incorrect instal

lation may render the set unsafe.•� Disconnect mains plug when :

— cleaning the TV screen, never use abrasive cleaning agents. — there is a lightning storm.— the set is left unattended for a prolonged period of time.

•� Do not shift or move the LCD TV around when it is powered on.•� Do not touch, push or rub the surface of the LCD screen with any sharp or hard objects.•� When the surface of the LCD screen becomes dusty, wipe it gently with an absorbent cotton cloth or other soft material like

chamois. DO NOT USE acetone, toluene or alcohol to clean the surface of the screen. These chemicals will cause damage to the surface.

• Wipe off water, or saliva as soon as possible. These liquids can cause deformation and color fading of the LCD screen when left exposed for some time.

•� Be careful of condensation when temperature changes occur. Condensation can cause damage to the LCD screen and electrically parts. After condensation fades, spots or blemishes will be present on the LCD screen.

•� CAUTION information is located on the inside of the VESA cover (see diagram below). To read information, open the VESA cover.

POSITIONING THE LCD TELEVISON

•� Place the LCD TV on a solid, sturdy base or stand. Be sure the stand is strong enough to handle the weight of the LCD TV.

• Try to leave at least 6 of space around each side of the LCD TV cabinet to allow for proper ventilation.

•� Do not place the LCD TV near a radiator or other sources of heat.

•� Do not place the LCD TV where it can be exposed to rain or excessive moisture.

RECYCLING PROCEDURE/END OF LIFE DISPOSAL

• To minimize harm to the environment, the batteries supplied with the LCD TV do not contain mercury or nickel cadmium. If possible, when disposing of batteries, use recycling means available in your area.

•� The LCD TV uses materials that can be recycled. To minimize the amount of waste in the environment, check your area for companies that will recover used televisions for dismantling and collection of reusable materials, or contact your dealer for TV recycling tips.

•� Please dispose of the carton and packing material through the proper waste disposal management in your area.

Your Cable TV input into your home may be a single (75 ohm)cable or a converter box installation. In either case, the con-

nection to the TV is very easy. Follow the steps below to connectyour cable signal to your new television.

If your cable signal comes directly from a round 75Π coaxial

cable use the following steps:

1 Connect the open end of the round Cable Company sup-

plied cable to the 75Π input on the TV. Screw it down fingertight.

2 Plug the television in to the wall outlet and turn the TV on.Refer to the AUTOPROGRAM feature to program all theavailable channels on your cable signal.

If your cable signal comes from a cable box, use the following

steps:

3 Connect the open end of the round Cable Company sup-

plied cable to the cable signal IN(put) plug on the back ofthe Cable Box.

4 Using a separate round coaxial cable, connect one end to the

OUT(put) plug on the back of the Cable Box.

5 Connect the other end of the round coaxial cable to the75Π input on the back of the television. Screw it down fingertight.

6 Plug the television in to the wall outlet and turn the TV on.Refer to the TUNER and AUTOPROGRAM features on page3 of this Quick Use Guide. TUNER should be set to theCABLE option. AUTOPROGRAM can be set to program allthe available channels on your cable signal into the televi-sion s memory.

Acombination antenna receives normal broadcast chan-nels (VHF 2—13 and UHF 14—69). Y our connection is

easy because there is only one 75Π (ohm) antenna plug onthe back of your TV, and that s where the antenna goes.

1 If your antenna has a round cable (75 ohm) on the end,then you’re ready to connect it to the TV.If your antenna has flat, twin-lead wire (300 ohm), youfirst need to attach the antenna wires to the screws on a300- to 75-ohm adapter.

2 Push the round end of the adapter (or antenna) onto the75Π (ohm) plug on the back of the TV. If the round end ofthe antenna wire is threaded, screw it down finger tight.

3 Plug the television in to the wall outlet and turn the TVon. Refer to the TUNER and AUTOPROGRAM features onpage 3 of this Quick Use Guide. TUNER should be set to theANTENNA option. AUTOPROGRAM can be set to programall the available channels on your cable signal into the televi-sion s memory.

The combination antenna receives normal broadcast channels 2-13 (VHF) and 14-69 (UHF).

Features

Active Control™ continuously measures and corrects all incomingsignals to help provide the best picture quality. This feature moni-tors and corrects both the sharpness control and noise reductioncontrol. Audio/Video Jack Panel allows direct connections with VCRs,DVDs, or other devices, providing quality TV picture and soundplayback.Audio Volume Leveler (AVL) Control keeps the TV sound at aneven level. Peaks and valleys that occur during program changes orcommercial breaks are reduced, making for a more consistent, com-fortable sound.AutoLock™ allows you to block the viewing of certain channels orprograms with certain ratings if you do not want your children toview inappropriate materials.AutoPicture™ allows you to change the picture settings (color,tint, contrast, etc.) for various types of programming, such assports, movies, multimedia (games), or weak signals with the pushof one button.AutoSound™ allows you to select from three factory-set controlsand a personal control that you set according to your own prefer-ences through the onscreen Sound menu. The three factory-set con-trols (Voice, Music, and Theatre) enable you to tailor the TV soundso as to enhance the particular programming you are watching.

Channel Edit allows you to add or delete channels from the liststored in the TV s memory. Channel Edit makes it easy to limit orexpand the number of channels that are available to you when youpress the Channel (+) or (—) buttons on your remote control.Closed Captioning allows the viewer to read TV program dialogueor voice conversations as onscreen text.Infrared Remote Control works your TV and other remote-con-trolled devices, such as VCRs, DVD players, cable converters, andsatellite receivers.Onscreen Menu shows helpful messages and instructions for set-ting TV feature controls (can be viewed in English, French, orSpanish).Sleep Timer automatically turns the TV OFF after a set amount oftime that you choose.Timer allows you to set your TV to turn itself ON and OFF once ordaily like an alarm clock.

For our Spanish and French-speaking TV own-ers, an onscreen Language option is present.

The Language control enables you to set the TV'sonscreen menu to be shown in either English,Spanish or French.

1 Press the MENU button on the remote controlto show the onscreen menu.

2 Press the CURSOR DOWN button repeatedlyuntil Install is highlighted.

3 Press the CURSOR RIGHT button to accessthe Install menu. Language will be highlighted.

4 Press the CURSOR RIGHT or CURSOR

LEFT button to select English, Francais orEspañol.

The Tuner Mode allows you to change the TV'ssignal input to Cable, Antenna, or Auto Mode.

It s important for the TV to know what type of sig-nal is connected, either Antenna or Cable.



3 Press the CURSOR RIGHT button to accessthe Install menu. Language is highlighted.

4 Press the CURSOR DOWN button to selectthe Tuner Mode control.

5 Press the CURSOR RIGHT or CURSORLEFT button to select Cable, Antenna, orAuto. If Tuner Mode is set to Auto, AutoPorgram will detect if a cable signal is present.


When Cable is selected, channels 1-125are available.When Antenna is selected, channels 2-69are available.

HOW TO USE THE INSTALLATION FEATURES

AUTO PROGRAM

Your TV can automatically set itself for local area(or cable TV) channels. This makes it easy for

you to select only the TV stations in your area bypressing the CHANNEL (+) or (–) button.

1 Press the MENU button on the remote control toshow the onscreen menu.


3 Press the CURSOR RIGHT button to enter theInstall menu. Language will be highlighted.

4 Press the CURSOR DOWN button repeatedlyuntil Auto Program is selected. Start ? willappear.

5 Press the CURSOR RIGHT button to start theAuto Programming process.

6 Press the STATUS/EXIT button to remove themenu from the screen when the Auto programmingprocess has finished.

After you ve run Auto Program, check out theresults. Press the CHANNEL (+) or (–) button andsee which channels you can select. Remember, an antenna or cable TV signal must firstbe connected to your TV, see Quick-Use Guide formaking connections.

7 Press the CURSOR DOWN button to selectSkipped while you are tuned to the channel to beskipped.

8 Press the CURSOR LEFT or CURSOR RIGHTbutton to select On to activate the skipping of a chan-nel. Or, select Off, to deactivate the skipping of achannel.

9 Press the STATUS/EXIT button to remove theonscreen menu from the screen.

HOW TO USE THE PICTURE ADJUSTMENT CONTROLS

To adjust your TV picture controls, select a channeland follow these steps.


2 Press the CURSOR DOWN button to highlightPicture.

3 Press the CURSOR RIGHT button to enter thePicture menu. Brightness will be highlighted.

4 Press the CURSOR UP or CURSOR DOWNbutton to select the picture adjustment you wantto change: Brightness, Color, Picture,Sharpness, Tint, or Color Temp..

5 Press the CURSOR LEFT or CURSORRIGHT button to adjust the selected control.

6 Press the STATUS/EXIT button when finishedto remove the menu from the screen.

Remember, when the bar scale is centered, the control settings are at normal,

mid-range levels.

NOTE: The Shaprness and Tint Controls will notbe available for adjustments when tuned to theCVI Inputs.

Brightness – adds or subtracts light from the dark-est part of the picture.

Color – adds or eliminates color .

Picture – improves the detail of the lightest parts ofthe picture.

Sharpness – improves the detail in the picture.

Tint – adjusts the picture to obtain natural skintones.

Color Temp. – offers NORMAL, COOL, orWARM picture preferences. (Normal will keep thewhites, white; Cool will make the whites, bluish;and Warm will make the whites, reddish.)

HOW TO USE THE SOUND ADJUSTMENT CONTROLS

To adjust your TV sound controls, select a channel andfollow these steps.

1 Press the MENU button on the remote controlto show the onscreen menu. Picture will be high-lighted.

HOW TO USE THE TIMER MENU CONTROLS

Your television comes with an onscreen clock. TheTV can also be set to turn on or off at a specific

time and tune to a specific channel when it powersitself on.


2 Press the CURSOR DOWN button to highlightFeatures.

3 Press the CURSOR RIGHT button to enter theFeatures menu.

4 Press the CURSOR UP or CURSOR DOWNbutton to highlight one of the Timer controls.These controls are Time, Start Time, StopTime, Channel No., Activate, or Display.

5 Press the CURSOR RIGHT or CURSORLEFT button to make adjustments or to togglethe On or Off.

Time : Enter the current time using the Numbered buttons. Use the CURSOR LEFT or CURSOR RIGHT buttons to toggle the AM and PM setting.

Start Time: Use the numbered buttons to enterthe time you want the channel to turn itself On. Use the CURSOR RIGHT and CURSOR LEFTbuttons to toggle the AM and PM setting.

Stop Time: Use the numbered buttons to enterthe time you want the TV to turn itself Off. Usethe CURSOR RIGHT and CURSOR LEFT but-tons to toggle the AM and PM setting.

Channel No. : Use the NUMBERED buttons orthe CH + or CH- buttons to enter the desiredstart-up channel. You can also press the CUR-SOR RIGHT or CURSOR LEFT buttons toenter the desired start-up channel.

Activate: Set the timer to turn itself On (Onceor Daily) or Off. Press the CURSOR RIGHTand CURSOR LEFT buttons to select Once,Daily, or Off.

Display: Press the CURSOR RIGHT or CUR-SOR LEFT to toggle between On or Off. If Onis selected, the time will be displayed all thetime when the TV is on. When Off is selected,the time will only appear when theSTATUS/EXIT button is pressed.

T he AutoLock™ feature receives andprocesses data sent by broadcasters or

other program providers that contain pro-gram content advisories. When programmedby the viewer, a TV with AutoLock™ canrespond to the content advisories and blockprogram content that may be found objection-able (such as offensive language, violence,sexual situations, etc.). This is a great featureto censor the type of programming childrenmay watch.

In the AutoLock™ section, you ll learn howto block channels and programming that isnot rated, is unrated, or has no rating. Youwill also find out how to turn these blockingfeatures ON or OFF. Following are briefexplanations of some terms and ratings relat-ed to the AutoLock™ feature.

AutoLock™ offers various Blocking

Options from which to choose:

BLOCKING: The BLOCKING control iswhat can be thought of as the master switchfor AutoLock™. This control affects the set-tings you have chosen for blocking programsaccording to movie ratings or TV ratings, orfor blocking programs that have no rating orare unrated. When the BLOCKING control isOFF, the blocking or censoring of programs isdisabled. When the BLOCKING control isON, blocking will occur according to the set-tings you have chosen.

NO RATING: ALL programming with nocontent advisory data can be blocked if NORATING is set to ON.

Programming that has No Rating is notencoded with any rating information from theMPAA or the Parental Guidelines. Any pro-gramming could fall into this category.

You also can block individual channels or

block programming based on ratings of theMPAA and TV broadcasters. (See a descrip-tion of the ratings on this page.)

UNDERSTANDING THE AUTOLOCK™ CONTROLS

G: General Audience - All ages admitted.Most parents would find this programmingsuitable for all ages. This type of program-ming contains little or no violence, nostrong language, and little or no sexual dia-logue or sexual situations.

PG: Parental Guidance Suggested - Thisprogramming contains material that parentsmay find unsuitable for younger children. Itmay contain one or more of the following:Moderate violence, some sexual situations,infrequent coarse language, or some sugges-tive dialogue.

PG-13: Parents Strongly Cautioned - Thisprogramming contains material that parentsmay find unsuitable for children under theage of 13. It contains one or more of the fol-lowing: violence, sexual situations, coarselanguage, or suggestive dialogue.

R: Restricted -This programming is specifi-cally designed for adults. Anyone under theage of 17 should view this programmingonly with an accompanying parent or adultguardian. It contains one or more of the fol-lowing: intense violence; intense sexual situ-ations; strong, coarse language; or intenselysuggestive dialogue.

NC-17: No one under the age of 17 will be

admitted. - This type of programming shouldbe viewed by adults only. It contains graphicviolence; explicit sex; or crude, indecent lan-guage.

X: Adults Only - This type of programmingcontains one or more of the following: verygraphic violence, very graphic and explicit orindecent sexual acts, very coarse and intense-ly suggestive language.

MOVIE RATINGS(MOTION PICTURE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA)

TV-Y: (All children -- This program isdesigned to be appropriate for all children.)Designed for a very young audience, includingchildren ages 2-6. This type of programming isnot expected to frighten younger children.

TV-Y7: (Directed to Older Children -- Thisprogram is designed for children ages 7 andabove.) It may be more appropriate for childrenwho have acquired the development skillsneeded to distinguish between make-believeand reality. This programming may includemild fantasy and comic violence (FV).

TV-G: (General Audience -- Most parentswould find this program suitable for all ages.)This type of programming contains little or noviolence, no strong language, and little or nosexual dialogue or sexual situations.

TV-PG: (Parental Guidance Suggested --This program contains material that parentsmay find unsuitable for younger children.) Thistype of programming contains one or more ofthe following: Moderate violence (V), somesexual situations (S), infrequent coarse lan-guage (L), or some suggestive dialogue (D).

TV-14: (Parents Strongly Cautioned -- Thisprogram contains some material that manyparents would find unsuitable for childrenunder 14 years of age.) SETTING UP AN AUTOLOCK™ ACCESS CODE

AutoLockTM allows parents to block out orcensor any channels they think childr en

should not watch. A channel blocked by theAutoLockTM control cannot be viewed until a cor-rect access code is used to unlock the channelfor viewing. First, let s set your AutoLock accesscode.

1 Press the MENU button on the remotecontrol to show the onscreen menu.

2 Press theCURSOR DOWN button tohighlight Features.

3 Press the CURSOR RIGHT button todisplay the Features menu.

4 Press the CURSOR DOWN button tohighlight the AutoLock control.

5 Press the CURSOR RIGHT button toenter the AutoLock mode. Access Code---- will appear .

6 Using the numbered buttons on theremote control, enter the access code. Ifyou do not know your code, 0,7,1,1 is thedefault code. After you have entered thecode once, Incorrect will appear on thescreen. Enter the code a second time. Itwill then prompt you to change code.

Using the numbered buttons on theremote control, enter the access codeof your choice. Enter the code a second time to confirm it. Once the new code is confirmed, the AutoLock menu willappear. You can proceed to access thefunctions available in the menu.

If you do not wish to access the otherfuctions, press the STATUS/EXITbutton to remove the menu from the screen.

Remember that 0711 is the defaultAutoLockTM code. If your access code hasbeen changed by someone other than you (achild, for example) or you have forgotten thecode, you can always get in by inputting thedefault code.

HOW TO USE THE SURF CONTROL

Alist or series of previously viewed channelscan be selected with the SURF button on your

remote control. With this feature, you can easilyswitch between different TV channels that current-ly interest you. The SURF control allows you toset up to ten channels in its quick viewing list.

1 Press the CHANNEL(+) or (–) button(or the numbered buttons) to select a chan-nel to add to the SURF list.

2 Press the SURF button on the remotecontrol. The onscreen display may read,SURF LIST EMPTY. The number ofthe current channel will be shown withADD? to the right.

3 While the SURF list message or the SURFchannel list appears on the screen, pressthe CURSOR RIGHT button to add thepresent channel to the SURF list.

4 If you want to delete the present channelfrom the SURF list, press the CURSORRIGHT button again.

Repeat steps 1 through 3 to add more channels(up to 10) to the SURF list.

Along with regularly programmed chan-nels, the external video source connectionscan be added to the SURF list. This meansthat the external A/V Jacks and their chan-nels can be added to your SURF list. test pattern sound screeching in your ears? Well, yourTV can enable you to avoid that discomfort by automat-ically turning itself off. With the Sleeptimer feature, oucan set a timer to automatically switch the TV off aftera period of time you choose (15-minute increments upto 60 minutes, then 30-minute increments up to 90minute increments, and 60-minute increments up to 240miutes).

1 Press the SLEEP button on the remote control.The Sleeptimer will appear in the lower part ofthe screen.

2 Within five seconds, press the SLEEP buttonrepeatedly to pick the amount of time (15-minuteincrements up to 60 minutes, then 30-minuteincrements up to 90 minute increments, and 60-minute increments up to 240 miutes) before theTV will turn itself off.

An onscreen countdown will appear during the lastminute before the TV shuts itself off.

To see how many minutes remain before the TV shutsitself off, press the STATUS/EXIT button.A Sleeptimer setting can be cancelled by pressing anybutton during the last minute of the operation.

The Program List Control will allow you toquickly overview all the programmed

channels that have been placed into the tele-visions memory (see the Auto Programmingsection of this manual for more details).Program List will let you easily select thedesired channels your looking for. ProgramList will display the channel number, thename of the channel if you have given it one,and whether it have AutoLock turn on or off.

1 Press the PROGRAM LIST buttonon the remote control to show the cur-rent list of installed channels (the cur-rent channel will be highlighted).

Whether you re watching a movie or a videogame, your TV has automatic video control

settings that will match with your current programsource or content. AutoPicture™ quickly resetsyour TV s video controls for a number of differenttypes of programs and viewing conditions that youmay have in your home. The Movies, Sports, WeakSignal, and Multimedia AutoPicture™ controlshave been preset at the factory to automaticallyadjust the TV s brightness, color, picture, sharp-ness, tint, and color temperature levels. ThePersonal AutoPicture™ settings are the ones thatyou made through the PICTURE options withinthe onscreen menu

1 Press the PICTURE button on the remotecontrol. The current AutoPictureTM settingwill appear in the middle of the screen.

2 Press the PICTURE button repeatedly toselect either Personal, Movies, Sports, WeakSignal, or Multimedia picture settings.

NOTE: The Personal setting and the Pictureoptions within the onscreen menu are the same.This is the only option in AutoPictureTM that can bechanged. To adjust these settings, use thePictureoptions within the onscreen menu. All othersettings are set up at the factory during productionand cannot be adjusted.

AutoSound™ allows you to select from threefactory-set controls and a personal control

that you set according to your own preferencesthrough the onscreen Sound menu. The three fac-tory-set controls (Voice, Music, and Theatre)enable you to tailor the TV sound so as toenhance the particular program you are watching.Follow these steps to select any of the options.

1 Press the SOUND button on the remotecontrol. The current AutoSoundTM settingwill appear in the middle of the screen.

2 Press the SOUND button repeatedly totoggle among the four settings: Personal,Voice, Music, or Theatre.

6 Press the STATUS/EXIT button to remove theonscreen menu from the TV screen when fin-ished. Or, let the display time out and the menuwill disappear after a few seconds.

SETTING UP THE FM MODE (FM RADIO)

The Mode options allow you to move to other operatingmodes within the TV. When in the FM Radio Mode,

choose from TV or VGA Modes.

1 If in the FM Radio mode, press the MENU but-ton on the remote control to display the FM RadioMode onscreen menu.

2 Press the CURSOR DOWN button until Modeis highlighted.

3 Press the CURSOR RIGHT button to access the TV, VGA or HD mode.

4 Press the CURSOR UP or DOWN buttons tochoose TV, VGA, or HD.TV - This will switch the TV back to the TV Modeof operation.VGA - This control will switch the TV to the VGAMode of operation. Note a PC signal must be pres-ent for this to work, or the TV will go into standbymode.

5 Press the CURSOR RIGHT button to activatethe selected control and change to the highlightedmode.

6 Press the STATUS/EXIT button to remove theonscreen menu from the TV screen when finished.

Activate: Set the timer to turn itself On (Onceor Daily) or Off. Press the CURSOR RIGHTand CURSOR LEFT buttons to select Once,Daily, or Off.

Display: Press the CURSOR RIGHT or CUR-SOR LEFT to toggle between On or Off. If Onis selected, the time will be displayed all thetime when the TV is on. When Off is selected,the time will only appear when theSTATUS/EXIT button is pressed.


IMPORTANT

For the Timer to function, the set must not be turned off. It must be at standby mode. Oncethe set is turned off, the Timer is disabled.

DOLBY VIRTUAL - Adds greater depth and dimension to TV sound. Select from Dolby Virtual or Stereo (if Stereo) or Spatial or Mono (if Mono).

SOUND - Select Stereo or Mono. If the signal is being received in Mono,the Sound cannot be placed in Stereo.

T he HD Mode Timer also allows you to set to turn On or Off the HD channel at a specific time and tune to a specific channel when it powers itself on. The HD Mode Timer operates in exactly the same way as the TV Timer menu.

Equalizer – adjusts the sound tones. Select120Hz to 10KHz.Balance – adjusts the level of sound comingfrom the left and right speakers. AVL (Auto Volume Leveler) - when On, AVLwill level out the sound being heard when sud-den changes in volume occur during commer-cial breaks or channel changes. Dolby Virtual - adds greater depth and dimen-sion to TV sound. Select from Dolby Virtualor Stereo sound (if Stereo) or Spatial or Mono(if Mono).

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

No Power• Check the TV power cord. Unplug the TV, wait 10 seconds,

then reinsert the plug into the outlet and push the POWERbutton again.

• Check that the outlet is not on a wall switch. • Be sure the fuse is not blown on the AC power strip, if one is

being used.

No Picture• Check antenna/cable connections. Are they properly secured

to the TV's ANT 75P plug?• Check the TUNER MODE control for the correct tuner set-

ting.• Try running the Auto Program feature to find all available

channels.• Press the SOURCE button on the remote to make sure the

correct signal source is selected.• If using an accessory device, be sure that it is functioning

properly.• If in PC Mode, a video signal MUST BE present or the TV

will turn off.

No Sound• Check the VOLUME buttons.• Check the MUTE button on the remote control.• If you’re attempting to hook up auxiliary equipment, check the audio jack connections.

No AV Signal• Check whether AV and S-Video sockets connected simultaneously. If they are, disconnect the S-Video socket. AV signal automatically overrides the S-Video signal if both sockets are connected simultaneously.

TV Only Produces MONO Sound• If using a cable box with RF only type connections, the signal

coming from the cable box will be produced in MONO only.• Check Sound control setting. Change setting to Stereo.

Remote Does Not Work• Check the batteries. If necessary, replace them with AA

Heavy Duty (Zinc Chloride) or Alkaline batteries. • Clean the remote control and the remote control sensor win-

dow on the TV.• Check the TV power cord. Unplug the TV, wait 10 seconds,

then reinsert the plug into the outlet and push the POWERbutton again.

• Be sure the fuse is not blown on the AC power strip, if one isbeing used.

• Check to be sure the TV outlet is not on a wall switch.• Be sure that the remote is in the correct operating mode.• Be sure the remote is pointed at the Remote Sensor Window

on the TV. See page 1 of the Quick Use Guide for details.

TV Displays Wrong Channel or No Channels Above 13• Repeat channel selection.• Add the desired channel numbers (using the CHANNEL

EDIT control) into the TV’s memory.• Check to be sure the TUNER MODES are set to the CABLE

option and run the Auto Program feature to find all availablechannels.

S-VHS Color Becomes Faint• Unplug socket for S-Video connection. Reconnect the S-Video socket of the TV slowly to the VCR socket.

CLEANING AND CARE

WARNING Concerning Stationary Images on the TVScreen: Do not leave stationary or letterbox images on screenfor extended periods of time. This can cause unevendisplay aging.Normal use of the TV should involve the showing of picturesthat contain constantly moving and changing images that fill thescreen. Be careful not to leave nonmoving images on screen forextended periods of time, or to display the same images onscreen too frequently, because subtle ghost images can be lefton the picture tubes. Sources of stationary images may be DVDdisks, laser disks, video games, CD-i disks, videotapes, digitaltelevision boxes, broadcast channels, cable channels, satellitechannels, and others. Here are some examples of stationaryimages (this is not an all-inclusive list; you may encounterothers in your viewing):• DVD menus—listings of DVD disk content• Letterbox black bars—shown at the top and bottom of the

TV screen when a wide screen (16:9) movie is viewed on aTV with standard (4:3) aspect ratio.

• Video-game images and scoreboards• Television station logos—present a problem if they are

bright and stationary; moving or low-contrast graphics areless likely to cause uneven aging of the picture tube

• Stock-market tickers—presented at the bottom of the TVscreen

• Shopping channel logos and pricing displays—brightand shown constantly or repeatedly in the same location onthe TV screen.

PLACEMENT OF THE TV• To avoid cabinet warping, cabinet color changes, and

increased chance of set failure, do not place the TV wheretemperatures can become excessively hot; for example, indirect sunlight or near a heating appliance.

• Be sure to allow a free flow of air to and from the perforatedback cover of the set.

CLEANING

• To avoid possible shock hazard, be sure the TV is unpluggedfrom the electrical outlet before cleaning.

• Regularly dust the TV with a dry, nonscratching duster tokeep the TV clean.

• When cleaning the TV, take care not to scratch or damage thescreen surface. Avoid wearing jewelry or using anythingabrasive. Do not use household cleaners. Wipe the frontscreen with a clean cloth dampened with water. Use even,easy, vertical strokes when cleaning.

• Gently wipe the cabinet surfaces with a clean cloth or spongedampened in a solution of cool, clear water and a mild soapor detergent. Use a clean, dry cloth to dry the wiped surfaces.Do not use acetone, toluene, or alcohol to clean the screen.

• Occasionally vacuum the ventilation holes or slots in the backcover of the set.

• Never use thinners, insecticide sprays, or other chemicals onor near the cabinet, as they might cause permanent marringof the cabinet finish.
