ForewordIn this material it is presumed that the operator is fully familiar with – and understands – alloperations of Symantec Ghost Corporate Edition version 7.5 or 8.0, to which this solution hasbeen developed. In connection with Symantec Ghost Corporate Edition version 7.5, some difficulties may occur, but these difficulties are not due to the ezGhost solution, but rather general difficulties found inSymantec Ghost Corporate Edition version 7.5 it self!

PreperationThe ezGhost solution should consist of the following – found in the “ezInstall” folder:

Windows applications and files:

Bat2exe.com

HDD.batHDDopen.batesInstallReg.EXE

ezInstall.EXEezInstall.DLL

ezInstall.INI

ezInstall.TXT DOSapplications and files:

OpenMode.EXE

On top of which, the driver for HDDGuarder used should be at least version 5.1 (called”Install510.exe”)!

It is seriously recommended that the ezInstall folder, with all the files, is kept on the Ghostconsol computer in the folder named ezInstall, on another drive than c:\ - i.e. on d:\ezInstall!Preparation of filesFirst, open the file ”hddopen.bat” in a text editor – i.e. notepad, which is supplied for free withall versions of Windows. In “hddopen.bat”, the “XXXXXXXX” are replaced with the for the HDD Guarder recovery cardrelevant password!

After altering “XXXXXXXX” to the relevant password, the file is saved to preserve the changes. Now, open the command prompt (by selecting ”Start” -> ”run” -> enter ”cmd”), after whichyou manoeuvre to the ezInstall folder (if the above recommendations are followed, the path isd:\ezInstall).Now enter in the command window: ”bat2exe hddopen.bat”, and a new file named“hddopen.com” will be created.

The recovery interval in ezInstall.ini must not be set to 0 (recovery at each re-boot), as thiswill entail that the HDD Guarder will automatically delete the VDBD generated by Ghost, priorto the actual Ghost distribution being initiated! It is therefore recommended that the setting – to achieve a reasonably frequent recovery ofthe computers – is set to 1 (recovery at the first boot of the computer after 12 hours after thelast recovery)!!

Image distribution. Here, it is presumed that the necessary knowledge regarding how to generate an AI package foruse under Symantec Ghost is available (for further details here of, please see the SymantecGhost manual)! An AI package is now generated, by first scanning the originating client computer, then, in theWindows folder (typically c:\windows), creating a folder named ”ez”, to which the followingfiles are copied:

esInstallReg.EXEezInstall.EXE

ezInstall.DLLezInstall.INI

Now the AI package it self is generated and named ”hdd filer install.exe”You are now ready to specify the necessary tasks in the Symantec Ghost application, byselecting “File -> New -> Task”:

This will bring up the window shown below:

Under the ”Network”tab, it is important that”Shut down machineswhen task is finished(requires advancedpower management)” isdeselected, as thissetting will prevent thecommand which laterclose the HDD Guarderfrom being executedcorrect!

Here, it is importantunder the ”General” tabto tick the boxes”Clone”,“Configuration”,“Deploy AI Package”,“Execute Command”and “RefreshConfiguration”.

And finally, under the”Execute Command”tab, add respectivelythe command:”c:\windows\ez\ezInstallReg.exe” and”c:\windows\ez\ezInstall.exe” in thatorder! All that is now left to dois to press the [OK]button twice, executethe task and start thedistribution!

Under the ”Deploy AIPackage” tab, add thepreviously produced AIpackage, which containthe four filesesInstallReg.EXE,ezInstall.EXE,ezInstall.DLL andezInstall.INI!Also, select the“Continue taskexecution if any of thepackages fails todeploy” option.
